Sub par alpine system solution...

The alpine system is somewhat weak. The system sounds a little muddy and is not tight...it's need some more wattage. For a 10 speaker 590watt system it should sound better than it does. U want to turn it up but the sound gets even weaker.

That being said has anyone added any dynomat? This can help with mid range bass and help the sub produce tighter richer bass.

Oc customs had a similar problem with a bentley they were doing for the CEO of monster cables. They had a similar sub enclosure and the bass was muddy so they added some dynomat and it was great!

Checkout crutch fields website. They have some there.

I'm not willing to drop hundreds on a new amp or speakers. Looks like a nightmare wiring everything. But the dynomat could help!

OP, when I opened up the vehicle for stereo upgrades, we had planned for dynomat in the doors, but it turns out they are so well built and filled, there was no room for sound baffling materials.

In addition to a diluted amp bridged across too many speakers, the sub enclosure is a big culprit as it is an all plastic box by Chryco and expands and contracts with sound waves thereby robbing the bass of crispness and sometimes causing a double hit and distortion.

What about just replacing the amp. I noticed on the wk2 site the PDF to remove the amp. Could u just hook up a new aftermarket amp, plug n play?

Funny thing about the doors is my driver side speaker rattles in the door and the bass is only up to 5 max with the volume only around 20. Dealer pretty much told me I as losing my mind even though they heard it too but stated nothing was wrong with it. Time to find a new service dealership. I agree about the weak system. My wife's 2011 Dodge Nitro Shock Infinity system sounds a LOT better than the Jeep's. Bass is strong at +1 bass. The factory subwoofer is great. Jeep messed this one up big time. Alpine should be ashamed of themselves putting their name on this system.

Hello,

If you put an aftermarket amp you will lose some functions of the factory radio. That could include the crossover setting that are contained in the amp. If you go with Plug n Play, I would suggest to research the HelixHIFI PP50DSP. The internal amp is small, however, from what read about this product and know about the manufacture from Germany, the sound quality is outstanding.

The bottom line for the first step is for the subwoofer to be replaced if you want better sound quality and whatever you do, must make sure it works with GC hi-speed can bus system. The can bus effects a lot of things in the vehicle.

As for me, I am going to scrape the system, including the speakers and start from scratch once I know about the problems in dealing with the Hi-speed Can Bus.

Hello,

Since this my first Jeep vehicle that I have purchased, I have now observed and read the Jeep dealerships do not want to bother with 2011 Grand Cherokee. I am now wondering if they do not want to deal with Can Bus or they know of other problems and they do not want us to know. I am now looking for a new service dealership myself that is not afraid to deal with the sound system or help me out if go to an aftermarket system. I totally agree with you that this Alpine system that Jeep spec out does not live up to being in a Premium category.

My drivers side door does the same thing on my 2011WK2

I actually took out my sub and added bracing inside and dynamatted the sub enclosure. I think it helped quite a bit. It isn't the same effect of something like Moose's project but it seemed to get rid of the muddy bass. Not too bad of a project and pretty cheap - it was murder getting the side panel out though. For $20 in materials it might be worth a shot.

For sure the audio system is worthy of Walmart. Okay, maybe Target, but I found the same limp performance in the Buick Enclave. Maybe the designers figure these are mommymobiles where mediocre audio won't be noticed.

And it's just plain idiotic not to offer as optional the genuinely premium audio system that's an option on the SRT8. Anybody tried shoehorning this into a non-SRT8?

Hi

i tried everything . Started with changing the speakers. Nothing was helping.
I wanna hold the Mygig but changed the Alpine Speakers into Rainbow (german). I unplug the factory amp. and installed some Massive Amps. The radio I converted with a adapter.
The factory woofer is now the place for the Amps. and a P-DSP (Fischer/german) und the woofer is now in the spare-wheel ! Next week everything will be finished und everything will be fine.....

Just to add my 2 cents. I hate the sound system in my Overland. I know an aftermarket sound system would sound way better, but like the idea of keeping it stock. I acutally had some old Dynomat laying around and picked up soome BoomMat spray-on stuff on discount at the local hardware store. I pulled out the sub enclosure and to be honest the engineer that designed this should be fired. I know building a new enclosure would help, but not planning to go there. Anyways I sprayed the entire thing with the BoomMat stuff and the covered the enitre thing (inside and out) with Dynamat. This firmed up the enclosure to where it felt very rigid. I put everything back together and to be honest there was not a huge difference, however I did notice that its not as boomy or muddy. I played with the EQ and was able to turn the bass to +4 and turn the treble down and It actually sounded decent. I had some left over stuff so i did that passenger door and got the same results, less boomy and tighter. Over time I will do all the doors, but dont expect any miracles from this system.
