Sub to stock stereo

I have been searching this forum trying to obtain a conclusive answer on which speakers to tap into for adding a sub to the stock stereo. I have the Alpine 9 speaker system and am going to use an Audio Control LC2i to tap into the stock wiring. I still have not figured out which set of speakers, Front 6x9s, rear 6 1/2s, or the 8" sub would be a better full signal to tap into. Does anyone have a final answer??? Thanks in advance for your input...

Re: Sub to stock stereo

Greetings and welcome,

Your best bet to hookup an additional sub to complement the existing 8 inch stock would be to tap into the sub channels. The rumor has it that the stock sub crossover point is around 70 hz (cycles). If the aftermarket amp that will be running the additional sub has the ability to be crossover lower, then that will be great to get the deep low bass.

The Alpine premium factory amp is running the built-in Alpine's Euphony Surround Sound processor, the rear door and hatch is running a predetermined delay or time alignment signal. The sound might not be to your liking because it will not be matched up to the front speakers. The front 6x9 and tweeters are set to high pass crossover points and that would rule out get down into the low bass range.

Best for now.

No problem.

There are many ways of upgrading the system in phases. Such as the one I described recently:

Question about amped output to sub.

I am now leaning to go this route myself since a complete upgrade will put a nice dent in my pocket at this time. Down the road I will change out the rear door and hatch speakers.

Best for now.

Re: Sub to stock stereo

FWIW, it's not the rear pillar speakers that have the time delay, it's the front and rear speakers. The idea with time delay is to compensate for the tiny differences in when the sound reaches you, by delaying the things would get there first.
