Three 430n Concerns

I am planning on ordering an Overland within the next week but after reading through this forum I have 3 concerns with the 430n. Looking for some guidance from anyone that has the unit now.

1) Issues playing iphone/ipod through the usb or aux jack. It seems like playback is inconsistent when the device is plugged into the system.

2) Nav screen brightness does not automatically adjust from daytime to nightime even when the automatic setting is selected.

3) Lack of dead reckoning.

Are these issues widespread and if so, can any of them be fixed with a software update? I wanted to go test the unit myself but the dealer close to me doesn't have a 430n on the lot. Thanks for the help.

Re: Three 430n Concerns

430N just doesn't have dead reckoning. If dead reckoning requires extra hardware (sensors/gyroscopes) then of course it cannot be fixed with software update.

In my opinion dead reckoning on car nav is just a gimmick. I don't have experience with it but I can't imagine it to be effective for any extended period of time.

Re: Three 430n Concerns

I have a 430N and can answer your questions.

1. I have a iphone 3GS, phone pairs fine, sounds good, uploads phone book and displays incoming calls. Also, the 430N will link through bluetooth to play sonds on my iphone, I have to select songs to play from my iphone, its like a wireless jack, pretty cool.

2. Also, I can plug my iphone into the aux usb jack in center, plays and controls fine and phone still with bluetooth pairing, this also works for my regular ipod.

3. My nav screen changes automatically from day to night, no problems

3) I have not seen any dead reckoning capabilities

+1 totally agree with this statement.

Only time I can see it coming in handy is if some schmoe gets lost in a sketchy section of Brooklyn.

So your light dimmer is fully on (just a click below the all interior cabin light)? Does it switch when your headlamps turn on

Re: Three 430n Concerns

My screen also changes from the day to night brightness display at night as well as
during the day when the wipers have been on long enough.

Seriously?!? That's a No-Go as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry...I know that this isn't helpful, but does everyone with the 430N have to put up with this?

Re: Three 430n Concerns

I think the brightness has to do with how people have their panel brightness nob set.

Re: Three 430n Concerns

Has anyone successfully paired their Blackberry Torch with the 430N? If so, are you able to access the phone book?
