Turning off Uconnect modem

This may have already been addressed but is it possible to completely disconnect the uconnect modem from the sprint network via a software setting on a MY15 unit? Given the recent hacks and my lack of interest in their 'services' I have no need for the risk of a connected system.

Re: Turning off Uconnect modem

It has been discussed in another thread concerning the MY14 GC, and there's no software fix. Maybe MY15 is different, but I doubt it. I believe some have talked about disconnecting the antenna, but I'm not sure where.

Re: Turning off Uconnect modem

Doesn't it use the same antenna as the radio? In other words, wouldn't disconnecting the antenna kill your radio reception too?

As far as the modem, if it has it's own fuse, maybe you could just pull it.

there's multiple antenna leads on the back of the radio. One sharkfin but apparently it has several different antennas inside.

Re: Turning off Uconnect modem

i wonder if customtronix can work something up in their cracked version where they remove the modem drivers from the install and kill it that way...

Just do what I do... live in an area where Sprint reception stinks. Problem solved.

Not true. Not paying for service does not turn off the connection. The connection is always there you are just not able to use it. If there is a connection to the network there is a risk.

Re: Turning off Uconnect modem

The Grand Cherokee is less vulnerable because the advanced tech package does not have lane departure control. Hence the Jeep cannot be steered into oncoming traffic. If your neighborhood hacker does take over your truck, you can still steer crash it safely.

Come on people...you all have not seen movies like SPEED ? Drive in circles damnit...fuel is bound to run out.

Re: Turning off Uconnect modem

Until the 2016 model, the GC doesn't have electric steering so my assumption is there is no way for the vehicle computer or systems to even turn the wheel on the <2016 models. Obviously brakes can be applied due to FCW/ACC etc, as well as acceleration.

Regardless, I'm really not that worried about all this for myself, personally. Maybe if I was a public figure or an investigative journalist or something.
