Updated: July 12th 2013 @ 9:17am EST

Due to some issues with complaints filed with Mega we have needed to move the software to our Premium Member section. I have left all of the information below for reference should you need to visit your dealer.

I have labeled this as an Unofficial release simply because I do not act as a representative of the provider of the software. I will as usual also caution you that you should *Use this at your own risk* and if you are more comfortable you may visit your Local Dealer and Reference STAR Case # S1308000211 and your dealer will load the software under warranty.

You must know the option code of your radio in order to get the correct update. The following fixes are in this update and specifically in speaking with a team of Sirius Radio engineers deals with some problems that have been reported in the Grand Cherokee. There has been site visits by Sirius XM to dealers in order to verify the Sirius Radio fixes.

Thanks to Milous for providing the fix list:

Primary Enhancements:
Corrects screen wording errors
Corrects HD default to "on" at startup
Navigation performance enhancements
Improved radio response times
Corrects battery drain due to failed radio registration
Corrects Voice recognition would not start correctly
Improved HD radio seek
Corrects Driver’s memory function causes SiriusXM failure
Improved SiriusXM Performance
Corrects radio heated seat controls
System stability improvements
Corrects for “please insert USB” at boot mode
Improved user experience at high ambient temperature
Prevents GPS module failure

Other Fixes:
Corrects loss of vehicle navigation location
Corrects incorrect compass direction
Fixes Lockup and or Shutdown of Touch Screen (RA3/RA4)
Additional behaviour updates directly from customer feedback

*** I have not verified if this has any impact on the Remote Start A/C issues and was told "not likely but not sure" ***

This will be my last post of unreleased software openly to JeepGarage, any future software releases including for other radios etc. will be available to JeepGarage supporters only. If there are Premium Members currently of JeepGarage that are also RAM owners I have posted the 2013 RAM instructions in a Premium Members thread. This is a great community and I personally know that these communities require support. This is my little way of a soft nudge to encourage that.

Unlike the prior release this is universal to either a MAC or PC as it is the RAW file. The instructions will seem very familiar to others who did 13.15.4 but you will see the file is not zipped in this case. Please read and follow the instructions I do not want to answer questions for things listed in the instructions. Please make sure to use a BLANK USB STICK. If you used this stick for the other update MAKE SURE YOU DELETE everything on the stick including the LOG file. I know this update will fit on a smaller memory stick.... DO NOT DO THIS, follow the instructions 1GB is the minimum and there is a reason as there is read/write during the update procedure.

Lastly when you read the instructions you will see that this is a customer authorized update. IF the update fails you can take it to your dealer and please know THIS WILL NOT FIX HARDWARE ISSUES. If there is a hardware issue with your radio this won't fix it and you will still need to have your radio looked at by a CDJ Dealer. I have noted that this fixes Freezing and Restarts of the Touch Screen HOWEVER I also know there were a small number of radios with hardware problems that this update will not fix but if you have these issues it is certainly what the dealer will attempt prior to any radio replacement being ordered.

*** Software Upgrades have been posted to the Premium Members section ***

POST UPGRADE NOTES:

-You may notice in the update process or after the update that "APPS" and or "SETTINGS" are interchangeable. Post update a "Registered" system will revert back to "APPS" once connected for a period of time.
-Shortly after the update is completed on an activated radio it is possible there may be a restart of your system separate from the update as APPS reconnect and or update.
-There appears to be a number of performance updates including to the FOBs detection and association. If you see unusual changes in presets on your radio, check which fob you are using.
-Not all fixes and or upgrades to the software are listed specifically. If you have a concern with a functionality of your radio it may have been addressed but not listed here.

I must have gotten an update today, because while driving I got an error a few times...the radio rebooted...and the APPS are there again. Pandora, etc. Couldn't get the data from Uconnect while vehicle was in motion. Will check it out on my way to work. Did anyone else get a PUSH update today that puts the apps back up. (Media apps).

At the dealer now having them look at the radio and the transmission (TSB). The service manager comes and tells me there is an update SW. I ask him if it is higher than 13.19 and he says "Yes, it just came out." I said OK we will see and he then left. It just came out for them but has been out for us for awhile now. We'll see what he says.

Update: Well I left the dealership feeling like they are so far behind on the times. The update that the tech got was the same 13.19. As well, they didn't even know about the Tranmission TSB and didn't have the software for it either. They told me that since I had the 13.19 software already, there was nothing they could do for me at this time. I'm kind of pissed by that but also ok with it since I haven't gotten the Service Phone issue in a long time and the UConnect Assist has now been working fine for the past 2 weeks. I can't wait for the dealer survey to come out so I can knock them on that atleast...

#1,083 ·
if you have gotten it once.. i think that may be an indication that the Sierra card is messed up :)

I understand what you are saying Bill, it makes sense. But if the 13.19 doesn't fix the issue then it should be taken as a NON-Software issue then you would think. I've only gotten the Service Phone thing 3 times and Assist seems to be working so I'm not overally concerned at this point, just a little annoyed.

Its supposed to be just that i think.. if the SW doesnt fix it, then you need a new radio.

Just got my call today. Going in Wed @ 7:30 am to get the new radio. i asked the parts man "Are you sure its a NEW radio, according to the star case guidelines?" answer was: "This radio is set up from chrysler for you vin"

hmmm.. not exactly the answer i wanted.. but I HOPE Chrysler did it correctly with a NEW radio lol. I will ask about the Trans TSB when i go in.

I thought the radio TSB was written kind of funny. Whether or not to change the radio, if I read it correctly, was based on the software version you have now, not what the radio came with. I think it said to change radios that have a version older than 13.10.0, and upgrade all others to 13.19.0.

The way I read it, I think they followed procedure. I don't think the procedure uses the right parameter. From what I take away from all the posts here, it should be by date code.

I did the manual reboot this afternoon on my way home for fun (Mute button + Browse Button) and it rebooted fine. 2 minutes later the "Service Phone" screen came up. I called the dealership right away to inform them. He said he would contact Chrysler directly and get back to me tomorrow sometime. Hopefully this pushes it along..Just kind of funny now.

When I said something about the software and the after June 12th date to just swap he said he didn't really understand that and that is a good reason to call Chrysler

I don't know if the system is being updated or not but today when I put the ride into reverse the display said for the first time a short message that the PARK Sense system was activated. Is this message something new? Then nothing unusual happened as the backup camera was on and I backed out of the driveway as usual. This is the first time that I have noticed this message. Since I have not studied the manual enough I haven't considering the red, green, and yellow double lines in the display as "sense system" to indicate the way the wheels were turned and permits one to back in a curve or a straightline. The way the system automatically turns the outboard mirrors downward so the driver can observe that the rear wheels are not running over a child....cat...or tricycle is amazing and the lines on the screen allow for perfect positioning when backing through my gateposts which are 12 ft apart and consist of 2'x2' concrete block. Although, I have never hit my mirrors on the post, my wife did so with my F350 and the little lights on the mirrors cost $100. :(

The display shows that I have 13.19.0 and a bunch of firmware codes, but since my system was built on 7/19 and has worked perfictly so far I have no complaints

That message shows in the cluster every time I put my car in reverse. Did you just "accidentally" turn the system on?

little info for people needing new radio.Don't worry too much about the dealership screwing up your dash. very simple process now watch they will scrape the crap out of mine lol. Also the SN in the dealer mode menu does match SN on back of radio.

you can most likely just get the radio SN from dealer Menu mine match if you want to figure out the date of new radio.

A lot of dots?? but I see a blue one

So, if I am reading this right, the radio in your pictures was built on January 17, 2013? That has to be part of the first run!

#1,103 ·
Ok, so the latest is...

The 911 phone service message can still appear, but isnt necessarily bad.
Its when the radio blanks out, freezes, forgets presets, etc while running 13.19.0 that is the real issue. correct?

So, tomorrow - should i double check the radio serial (date) before they install? My guess is it HAS to be newer than the one i have (since i was running 13.05 lol)

The 911 phone service message is still bad, Chrysler has just decided that they are unsure of one of the issues related to the Service 911 message and are investigating further. I would imagine there will be more information on this soon.

So i have appointment with desler for the "vehicle phone requires service" message. Now it comes up almost daily and it is freaking annoying.

If they are not replacing radios anymore what are they going to say? Keep driving and get annoyed on you 50k vehicle?

If it comes up all of the time, they should call Chrysler and get a replacement... They are still replacing radios, they are just unsure of the radio requires service root cause. As in be prepared that you may get a replacement and see that message once in a blue moon, as there still appears to be some other issue going on. It coming up during normal operation is the Sierra Card actually failing... TMK.

There is a little nick in the CF trim on mine in the same place. Funny thing is, that happened at the factory as the radio has never been out since it was delivered.

In any case, I'm still waiting for a replacement piece ;)

That's weird that they chipped the wood all you have to do is open the cubby and and carefully pull from the bottom. They must have done that putting back in I would think. I guess you could always remove that piece yourself and put it back after their done if your that worried

I have now gotten "Service Phone" popup 3 times now since yesterday. If I do the manual reboot, I can get it to come up almost every time now. I called UConnect and opened a ticket, advising them that the dealer didn't do anything about the Star Case # and turned me away. Hopefully they can push this through.

Lol stop reseting that radio your going to break something important :D seriously though your getting that message so much because you're resetting it. very weird that the dealer turned you away just take a picture of the message and tell them it keeps popping up at random times or go to a different dealer.

But each time you start the car, its booting. The reboot, just saves the step of turning off the car and waiting for it to go dark.

I have gotten the msg 3 times as well.. Before i knew how to reboot.
These 2 situations are not the same....

During the normal shutdown the radio "deep sleeps" and shuts down most things.

During the engineering reboot, the system restarts and does system verifications.

These two things have about the same in common as hibernating a computer vs restarting it.

If you see the message without a hard reboot, you have a worse problem as the card is having issues during normal operations. If you only see this message during a complete reset then it is failing a "test".

These two items can be set separately. You can see a KM speedo and still get MPH everywhere else.

When on the Speedo, press ok to change. On the radio select the units under "display".

Kind of handy when you think and work in both units all the time actually!

#1,129 ·
well yes and no.
when I will post the pictures it will become clear.

the street guidance in the cluster had kilometers
the 8.4 inch screen had units of miles
the Speedo had units of miles

I did not make changes to the settings in months. The SD card also stopped working.

my 45 $ Chinese wrist watch keeps its settings better than my 45,000 $ Jeep.

I am at the stealership now. Also getting the tranny flash.

update to the update

according to the tech, switching between miles and kilos on the Speedo works...but the odometer units do not. Along with my reports, complaint history, pictures and SD card failure (tested on other cars) they will replace my navigation unit.

the TCM update is NOT yet available but a PCM one is...according to the people here.

Willx, on a semi-related topic, I am getting a blind spot monitoring failure a few minutes after start up. I am usually on the road a few minutes before the warning message appears on the EIVC. Is this perhaps
UConnect related???
No but there is a TSB on this I believe....

Edit: is one of your blind spot mirror arrows on all of the time from start when this happens?

Went to dealer today to have radio checked for possible replacement for numerous issues. I had stopped by there last Thurs. and showed the service advisor a frozen screen and he made a note of it and I made an appointment for today. On the way the "phone needs service" message and red light on mirror happen again. Wasn't fast enough to get a pic of the message but did get a pic of the red light which stayed on for awhile after the message left the screen. I then noticed the clock was frozen at 1:17 until I got to the dealer and showed them that. The touch screen wasn't frozen. Told them I continue to have screen freezes, black screen, multiple reboots while driving ect. and that 13.19 has been installed for 4wks. Also had incident where veh locked itself with no light flash or horn sounding with fob in car. Had to use the other fob to unlock.

They reloaded 13.19 checked the locking system for which they found a fault code and said it seems that a door locking button may have stuck on causing the problem? I talked with the tech and told him that 13.19 SW was already installed (he never checked the current version installed) and the problems continue. He just insisted they have install it again and see what happens. So the fun with the dealership begins!!!

Don't get me wrong, I (still kinda) love the GC, but after reading these threads in the months since I got my '14, I am utterly stunned at the sheer number of issues so many owners of '14's are having. Someone mentioned previously that Chrysler should have waited (i.e. done more testing etc.) before rolling out the '14'. I couldn't agree more.

#1,142 ·
I would just take the complaints on here with a grain of salt. I don't think it's common for the average Jeep buyer to seek out a forum just to praise their purchase.

We just happen to see lots and lots of complaints/issues on here because that's what people tend to report. Are there issues? Sure. Are they pervasive? Probably not.

#1,149 ·
Turn by turn in cluster is just going to uncheck itself again anyway...:D

I'll have to test on mine, but it might be somewhat logical that the turn by turn would follow the nav setting, not the speedo setting. Since it appears you can set them independently, I suppose you could get this??
