Re: UConnect 13.19.0 - Unofficial

thanks to will for helping with this, I was getting the 'phone needs service' messages as well after the .19 update. took the star case number and a picture of the radio showing the message to my dealer, and now a new radio is on order.

Hopefully this will resolve the main issue I have, ie, not being able to remote start from the iphone app.

take home message so far: never buy the first model year

well, technically MY14 is not a new model year isn't it, but a redesign? Sadly, even my elder friend, whose great experience with JGCs is what I'm using as my reliability history, is telling me the same! To the extent I'm even considering getting an Overland or Summit MY13 worst, something else

Will JGCs built in and after August be loaded with 13.19.0?

I am really not worried about it. New radios is not a very worrisome thing. It is just refresh, so you don't need to be so concerned about things that could be what I call a "genetic" issue with the platform. I certainly get to see more problematic launches than this.

I will say I am not downplaying anyone who has had serious issues because I know some have.... but Jeep owners are a very active group for some reason I have yet to fully grasp. Those people who do have issues are way more likely than other brands to participate in forums like this and I find that very cool.

It means that there is a lot more talk of the problems that do exist but I have yet to see something on these that will plague the platform. The solutions are coming down the pipe quickly for the car world.

I fully agree. Heck, my current DD '10 Maxima's Nav radio still reboots randomly, as recent as this morning's drive in to work. However, I haven't had other issues with it requiring a dealer visit (coz that is a PITA as we all know). I am hoping that come September or so that most of these radio/tech issues would have been solved. Like everyone else, I would just like a vehicle that "works" without having any concerns every time I get in the truck.

And FWIW, other than the well documented problems of Marlon and AMC, every one else seems to have driveable issue. I mean, I'm still following the forum and still have the MY14 JGC as my first choice.

Not trying to stick my head out for Chrysler, it is really no benefit to me... bit this is seriously a case of simple bad timing and misfortune, that is all. I think they are doing OK with catching up on this. When they don't you guys hear me complain about it so......
I worked for Chevy for 10 years.. i know stuff can go wrong... but the thing that bugs me is that this is a 2014. If the plan "failed" at the last minute, why not delay the 2014 launch until the normal time... like September? Iron out the issues. Its just frustrating... At the very least, get on top of the situation and really make sure dealers know whats going on. It sucks to have to "teach" a dealer about a known service issue.

that being said, my new radio should be in any day now.. How can i have them verify that the new one was built after 6/15/2013? Something with the serial right?

Mine is getting worse by the day. Today i took a quick trip (2 miles...) worked fine on the way there. Then on the way back, sxm lost all presets... radio lost all presets. recall profile one did not fix. SXM was stuck on channel 1. Reset it... same.. got the 911 error. Nav was all over... time was wrong.. it was showing i was about 3 miles from where i really was. Reset again.. no luck.

Hope the overnight rest helps. This is really pissing me off now. How could Chrysler have not seen any of these errors before releasing it!???

AND... if they put a new radio in.. and i find out its an older one again.. im going to be livid! As much as i love the rest of the jeep... this makes me wish i had kept my 2011 till OCT when the lease ran out.
Honestly, I got the message a handful of times within the week after registering uconnect. This was on a recent build, factory 13.19 load. It all peaked with the strangeness that several were seeing, red light on the mirror, etc.

Since then, I'm going on 3 weeks and have not seen the message again. Had one random preset loss issue, but other than that, no other hiccups.

To put it in perspective, the radio in my VW (also a canbus system BTW) is 4 yrs on the market, not first year build, and still does strange things. The most recent is the hard buttons decided to swap functions... of course it fixed itself about 2 weeks later, right after the wife got fed up and had me schedule a service appt.

in your case, just get a new radio and be done with it.

Date code on the radio shows... Milous posted the Julian conversion a little ways back.

While I do not disagree with your principle in manufacturing best practices, we both know that they wouldn't idle a line because of a radio.

Now I don't think they expected the scope to be as large as it ended up, but this is what it is. I do expect the major stuff to be cleaned up soon and then they can work on expanding and improving features.

Re: UConnect 13.19.0 - Unofficial

I know they wouldnt.. but still drives me nuts!

UPDATE:

Just got a call from my dealer. He needed my mileage.
Him:"Hi, just needed your mileage so we can order your radio"
Me: "What?? You havent ordered the radio yet!!!!?"
Him: "No, we had to wait for Chrysler to release the radio. They are trying to get a sense of the scope of this problem. If it will be a big problem or not"
Me: "They better buckle their seatbelts. How long NOW do i have to wait?"
Him: "Should be tomorrow"

Why are they dragging their feet on this if they KNOW its an issue? Star case even describes this to a T.

I can't really say for sure what actually happened at your dealer BUT Chrysler is fully aware of the scope. I am not going to say that they (dealer) did something wrong but it seems a little silly that it had not been ordered. The fact he asked for your mileage, I would guess they had not written the RO yet but that is totally a shot in the dark.

Make sure you get a copy of the RO for radio replacement in the end and you will know for sure.

I knew that sounded fishy.. that if Chrysler has TSB for the update and a Star case for the Replacement, they know whats going on.

the RO meaning that sheet of all the repairs done when you pick up your vehicle? (thats what we called it at chevy.. just making sure its the same)

If the only problem is the assist button not working, I'm not sure I want them changing the radio. uConnect is supposed to follow up, so I will see what they say. I only got the phone needs service one time and I think that was at least a few weeks ago.

I will probably not renew the uConnect subscription anyhow, so by the time they fix it I won't have the service anyway.

As for the free coffee, I can get free Starbucks coffee from my bank anytime, and they are a lot closer. In addition the bank has computers that customers can use and popcorn on Fridays. But the ATM can't dispense it ... yet.
