The colored dot is to mark a hardware update. There are now radios that were built before June 12th that have been updated (rebuilt). For radios that are in vehicles the date code on the back of the radio needs to be decoded.

It was never determined/stated here which color is on a radio built after June 12, 2013. Blue or purple? That's what we need to know. Also, how to read the date code which I believe is part of the serial #?

The date code was discussed here within the past week. It is based on the Julian calendar.
So, it shows a single digit it for the year '3' and a three digit number for the day in the year '001-365'

What bill has here is most important, as likely most will not have the purple dot but there may be a few out there?

Purple dot will show a valid radio that may be used as a replacement that has a date code prior to June 12 2013. The dot is only to indicate an updated pre-June 12 radio. (hardware revision update not just software).

The Julian date code is often distorted by manufacturers. Some place the yr before the day code and some after. Some use 2 digits for the yr and some use 1 digit. As far I have seen here there has not been a definitive answer as to how Chrysler/Harmon Cardon date codes the radio and exactly where the code is located other than somewhere on the label. I think it is in the serial #?

I put a call into Customer Care regarding the date code a few days ago.. They said they would call me back with the info. Of course they didn't.

Willx ,Thanks for clearing up the color coding.

13.19.0 will identify wireless issues however if you received the phone requires service message with 13.10 or older, they are basically saying your radio is totally screwed and there is no point even trying the software upgrade. I don't believe that I had seen anyone on here who got service phone right out of the box. The Star cases are a little abbreviated when there is so many lines of diagnosis and they keep updating it.

Edit: a new development, as of last Thursday, they have decided not to replace any more radios strictly with the phone requires service message. I am being told there were a number of cases of radios that came in with 13.19.0 with service phone errors and that they are not sure of the cause now. It is not how you guys loaded the update as they were able to duplicate the issue with existing stock.... I will post more info as this becomes available.

All other issues are still, load 13.19.0 then test, if issue persists replace radio with the new revision.

Sorry folks been sort of on holidays the last two weeks and only able to be so connected.

So Sno, looks like as of now it is wait and see?
Yea.. Like I have been saying.. I doubt it was a widespread hardware issue all along. I have gotten the message several times, but only at radio startup, then it would go away after about 10 seconds or so... And I can recreate the 'issue' on demand by reinstalling apps on the radio. To me, it sounds like a false alert as a result of the air card module initializing either from a cold start or ota push, and because the radio looses connectivity to it for a brief period of time, that message comes up. A little better error handling in code would likely resolve the perceived issue.

There is always infant mortality with electronics, but I think this issue has gotten blown out of proportion on here..

If that is what you believe....

I happen to know for a fact that a lot of the radios will need to be replaced. The only item on the list that has been put on hold is the phone error, which they are now investigating further. The reason the system is telling you it needs service is for legal reasons... Because it isn't doing something it is supposed to, and some of them may be fixed with an update but many will not.

little info for people needing new radio.Don't worry too much about the dealership screwing up your dash. very simple process now watch they will scrape the crap out of mine lol. Also the SN in the dealer mode menu does match SN on back of radio.

you can most likely just get the radio SN from dealer Menu mine match if you want to figure out the date of new radio.

A lot of dots?? but I see a blue one

Re: UConnect 13.19.0 - Unofficial

Ok, so the latest is...

The 911 phone service message can still appear, but isnt necessarily bad.
Its when the radio blanks out, freezes, forgets presets, etc while running 13.19.0 that is the real issue. correct?

So, tomorrow - should i double check the radio serial (date) before they install? My guess is it HAS to be newer than the one i have (since i was running 13.05 lol)

So, if I am reading this right, the radio in your pictures was built on January 17, 2013? That has to be part of the first run!
