Rocketrancher, wow, man you're really committed to the task! Unless you find the little last bit of rf leakage, and can farily easily cinch it, I think I am going to go ahead and build the shielded dummy load, and add that braided ground. I don't remember seeing a drilled heatsink fin on the back of the UConnect, but when I take the radio out again, I will either find it, or drill one. Where did you ground the other end of the shield? Didn't see a pic of that, but maybe once I get in there, it will be obvious.

Once again, thanks for all the technical pioneering.

Greetings CaptWill!

The last bit o' leakage is sure elusive. We now can really put a dent in the cellular connectivity but I want to keep trying to suppress it entirely, and there is still thrill in the chase

My radio has a hole drilled in two of the fins on the rear casting, maybe another application uses them for mounting.

Edit: look back at the 2nd & 3rd pics in post #88: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.
The holes are more-or-less visible in the outboard fins

For the other end, I used a convenient screw that is shadowed by the radio when it's in place, but as soon as you bring the unit out of its mount you can't miss it. I actually like a spot on the forward subframe better, and there are variants of what more we can do to address bonding, but it was a sunny, humid afternoon and I took the low road to see what happened.

I need to make one more dive into the radio to get some part numbers, so I will take some snapshots for next update. I jotted down the number of one device amongst the network near the Sat jumper, and it turns out to be a Diplexor handling Sat and GPS signals, so that adds-up. Similar devices are also inside the aircard and, being frequency-specific, ought to offer more clues about signal routing.

RR

(Just a thought: Anyone have knowledge of using ferrites on stripline?)

It just plugs into the back of the radio ... and mimics the antenna connection to stop the 911 message from popping up.

I wish it was that easy....we'd've been done four pages ago.

How'd I miss that? I'm sure it is the same on mine.

BTW, just a thought; but at these frequencies, multiple grounding points (both those drilled heatsink fins), and using the shortest possible ground straps, are probably the most effective.

Good point, Will.
I'll try a second location.
Hopefully we can do good without spinning a web

Two questions about the adaptor:

Did you buy your adaptor from OEM Autoparts?
Could you test the resistance of your adaptor? Is it just a 10k ohm resistor?

Hi 'Sal

I think this is the Chrysler thread the fellow mentioned earlier...

911 Radio error message fix

The UID seems quite googleable, as well.

Re: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.

RR; interesting discovery today, (to me, anyways). My UConnect aircard antenna is still disconnected and still not terminated with a dummy load (this dummy misplaced the connectors I bought!).

So today, while driving about an hour north of here, and using Nav to find an address, 2 times when approaching a construction zone, the Nav screen warned of the construction zone, on the map! My aircard connection still shows no service, and I am wondering how it obtained that info. In addition to that, as we were coming home (different route), it warned me to take an alternate route, due to an accident ahead! How can this be?

So I decided to test the aircard to see if there was actually a signal, so I pressed the 9-1-1 button on the mirror (which showed a RED led). It confirmed that it was going to dial 911, and I let it. Well, it continued to try for 6 minutes, with no success, and finally allowed me to cancel the call. Yes, once you press that button, the radio goes silent, the screen shows that it is calling 911 (but couldn't), and it will NOT ALLOW you to cancel. It displays on the screen that ONLY 911 OPERATOR CAN CANCEL THIS CALL.

Just thought ya'all might like to know.

I thought traffic updates came from the Sirius not the cell antenna...

That would explain it, but how does that work? I thought GPS' needed internet access for live trafic updates. At least my Tom Tom and Rand McNally GPS in the truck/camper, need internet while on the road. But I do have Sirius/XM paid subscription for 1st 3 years, so if that's what does it... ... cool.

The RA4 came with 5 years traffic and weather service from Sirius, it is not related to cell service... It gets it from the Sirius antenna.

Thanks skunkd. So I've got weather info too! I didn't realize that. Maybe I should start driving it more. In a couple weeks it will be a year since I bought it, and the odo just turned 1000 mi the other day.
