Re: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.

I am new to the forum.

I had my 2014 Grand Cherokee Stolen today (9/27/2015)in San Francisco.
My Uconnet does not have the Jeep register, so they can not locate it.
Does anyone know if there is a way to find the car using a Data Link using the Vin #?

Thanks

Welcome and sorry to hear of your stolen Jeep. Personally, I've always thought that it's bullshit if they allege they "can't find" your Jeep if you haven't paid their $20/month fee.

We all know they are constantly getting that data telemetry of your position, speed, etc. They are just refusing to act on it or share the data in order to "incentivize" owners to pay.

Hello
Very sad to hear of your loss, and I hope you can recover your Jeep.
Maybe you've already tried this angle, but perhaps the SF authorities would have more leverage than the owner in getting telemetry data from the gatherers?

I haven't been in the engineering menu in a while, but is the aircard IMEI in there anywhere? I know the SXM radio ID is, so it might be worth poking around. If we get the IMEI off the menu (or perhaps off the sticker on the aircard itself, as RR's photo illustrates), and owners write theirs down/snap a photo for records, then they might be able to have the cops go to Sprint directly for a location fix if their Jeep is ever stolen. Bypass FCA entirely.

Super idea, RK!

It's there; found it in two places:
(I hope I scribbled correctly)

>EngrgMenu>##Menu Advanced>##RTN#>ESN/MSID

>EngrgMenu>##Menu Advanced>##DATA#>Advanced> (Select "view) MEID

...##DATA#>Data Profile is kinda interesting, May be handy for confirming registrations or IP addresses.

Re: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.

Sure is quiet around here

According to the engineering menu, registrations I'm getting lately are occurring with a received signal strength measurement of -105 dBm. What a rig.
Would seem I should also be getting signals from Mars, too.

Still plugging away, although distracted a bit lately to hardwire a dashcam and have faced the challenge of finding persistent and switched power in the cabin. Easier said than done, with a lot of false positives that are either put to sleep while the car is at rest, held up until sleep occurs, or are sense-lines for discrete switching. Not funny when a meter reads 12v on a point but then touching it with a test lamp opens the sunshade. Persistent power seems to be the most elusive but, FYI, I believe I finally found both at the media hub.

Then, I self-changed oil for the first time on this jeep and encountered the "short dipstick" phenomenon (TSB 09-010-15).

But I did a little more research on the aircard in the meantime and hope to mark-up a new picture to post soon.

Re: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.

Thanks for the info, Dave. I haven't posted lately as I have nothing new to add. I STILL haven't built that little dummy load; too many distractions like leaking roof, heating system maint for upcoming cold wx, yard trashed from 5 day Nor'easter, etc.

Interesting that you have had difficulty finding reliable switched 12v. I bought a dash cam too, but haven't installed it yet. My plan was to pick up power at the back of the rearview mirror. There is a thread on a radar detector forum I stumbled across, where they did that on our model year JGC. In fact, there is several ebay sellers that have a power cord, with various power plug configs, and gold plated pins on the other end, which will snug inside the mirror power connector. That, I have read, is 12v only with engine or accy on. In fact, I plan to mount the cam up high, behind the mirror.

Interesting measurement you got there re the -105dbm. That is a really really weak signal. Amazing that it can lock on something like that.

on edit:

I also just dd the first oil & filter change too. My Jeep hit it's one-year anniversary on the 13th, and the odo just recently rolled past 1000 mi.

At that rate, it ought to last me about 100 years

Re: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.

Hi Will

Happy anniversary!!
I think ours is 3Nov.

Actually, I could find switched power okay, just not a constant 12v. My cam uses both to enter a motion-detecting "security" mode when the switched line goes down.

Dipstick thing is ironic. Factory fill was to the "full" mark, as was first change, comp'ed by FCA. Then I do the next change, put in seven, and it reads a quart low. If I hadn't had 5.7's since '05 I probably wouldn't have been sensitive to it. Visited dealer today....they had to order part and were unaware of the issue. [sarcasm] Alert the media. [/sarcasm]

That's crazy the jeep got jacked. Don't the GC's come with LoJack? Or is this only if dealers add it?

uconnect has tracking but the $%*&(@#*&%#$'s only will share the data if you pay the fee for it. I suppose a search warrant or a chinese hacker can get you the info without paying the fee...

I wouldn't even mind so much if I had to pay a $100 locate fee one time if my Jeep were stolen. It's galling though when FCA/uConnect lie and say that they can't find your Jeep unless you were already paying their $20/month recurring fee for their worthless services.

Which is why I suggest everyone take a pic of their IMEI in the engineering menu *now* and have the cops go directly to Sprint with that if their Jeep is ever stolen. No need for FCA/uConnect because Sprint can locate the Jeep just like a 911 call can find a cell phone. We know the Jeep is always on the cell network with uConnect's creepy tracking/logging/enabling hacker access, because otherwise the "remote start over internet via smartphone by you and/or hackers trying to gas you in your sleep by running your Jeep in the garage beneath your bedroom" paid feature couldn't work.

Which brings me back to wanting to disable this aircard hardware. I lived before without creepy tracking/hacker command and control of my vehicle and I'd love to do it again.

Re: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.

Supposedly one can opt-out of FCA/Sprint collecting "collected data"....

from uConnect privacy policy at Privacy Statement

PRIVACY CHOICES If you wish to opt-out of receiving promotional communications related to the Uconnect Services, you may do so at any time by visiting Owner Connect at moparownerconnect.com. The collection and use of Collected Data is essential to providing the Uconnect Services. If you do not want this information to be collected, used, or shared, you may opt out by cancelling your Uconnect Services in their entirety by performing the Remove Uconnect Account procedure described in your owner’s manual or by contacting us as noted above.

I don't know if this means removing your total online jeep owners account or not. If so then you have no way to confirm they are honoring your request. My online owners account at jeep.com under "Maintenance Schedules" always shows a recent odometer despite no active uConnect subscription nor service visit or other way for them to get it except the realtime telemetry via the Sprint aircard.

IMHO, with the smartphones and apps requiring location services, etc it is impossible to not be "on the grid" realistically. I'm over it, whatta ya gonna do?
