Re: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.

Used an old ISO to run command to replace SWF files, and now ended with a unit that doesn't respond to screen inputs and is stuck on the initial screen. Can't get to the screen where it would usually show software update.

Is there a way to force the unit into the update mode? I'll have to send it in on Monday to get it repaired if not...

i think you can modify \etc\manifest.lua on any valid iso ( preferably one with text mode manifest.lua ) making changes past 2048 mark. manifest.lua gets executed after smaller iso check ( 2048 byte of each file ) is returned.

you could use os.execute to remount file system in write mode and then replace back swf from /fs/usb0 ( your usb device containing correct swf )

or just patch manifest to put system into update mode and update system back to some valid version

Thanks for the suggestion! Do you mean that manifest.lua gets executed as soon as Ucoonnect sees the swdl.iso, so we can use it to repair the unit, even if the system is not in update mode?

By the way, the physical buttons is working fine.

Re: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.

from loader.lua

Quote:
The update service does the following:
* Authenticate swdl.iso (using the new fast digest algorighm)
* Mount swdl.iso at /fs/swdl
* Run the lua script "/fs/swdl/manifest""/fs/swdl/etc/manifest.lua"
* The script returns a table called the manifest. This table has some fields that drive the update.
Quote:
The manifest can actually do anything it wants and return an empty table.
At that point the update is done. Or the manifest can do a reset and never return.
seems that originally /manifest was file loaded/execued ( it is smaller than 2k - impossible to modify )
now it is /etc/manifest.lua which is larger and allows us to patch it and execute some commands without restarting

I got it back by using manifest.lua and got it working! For future reference, make sure ro remount the mmc0 filesystem as writable before doing anything.

Quote:
os.execute("/usr/share/scripts/mmc.sh start")
os.execute("mount -uw /fs/mmc0/") -- mount as writable

-- do whatever here

os.execute("mount -ur /fs/mmc0/") -- mount as read only
os.execute("/usr/share/scripts/mmc.sh stop")

Congratulations on recovering from your soft brick state. It's great to hear missteps don't always require hardware replacement.

I am curious what you mean by "modifying the ISO"... there's really nothing that will modify an ISO beyond hex editing in place while ensuring that the file remains exactly the same size (i.e. avoid offsetting data).

If you generated a replacement ISO then I can certainly perceive how that wouldn't work, and could easily cause bricking if it were applied.

edit: just tested - disableDRM hack works - wifi shows up and wifi app allows to see/change access settings. sucks that there is no sprint network in .eu
Hello, currently trying to enable the wifi so that I an SSH in to my unconnect, I read in your posts you talked about using a modified engineering menu and creating a file called disableDRM.

Now i already created the file, but I'm not sure how to make the modified engineering menu, if you could share with me how you did that I would be extremely grateful

Re: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.

you don't need engineering menu for that

* create /fs/etfs/disableDRM
* reboot
* go to apps/wifi
* see/change password

now you should be able to connect to wifi

there is secret service menu entry in engineering menu
it is only available if signed file is detected ( i think on usb ) or when swf is patched to show service menu anyway

Hmm...that's weird, I did that but I continued to get the "no active subscription" pop up, is there supposed to be anything in the file, I just created a blank file with just the "disableDRM" file name

Re: uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.

1) is disableDRM file in right path?
2) does it exists after reboot?
3) check /fs/mmc0/app/bin/boot.sh for this

Quote:
if [ -e /fs/etfs/disableDRM ]; then
qon -d appManager -s -j -c=/etc/system/config/appManager.cfg --tp=/fs/mmc0/app/share/trace/appManager.hbtc
else
if [ $VARIANT_MARKET = "NA" ]; then
appManager -s -j -d -c=/etc/system/config/appManager.cfg --tp=/fs/mmc0/app/share/trace/appManager.hbtc &
else
appManager -s -j -d -c=/etc/system/config/appManager_nonNA.cfg --tp=/fs/mmc0/app/share/trace/appManager.hbtc &

In my excitement it looks like i fat fingered the command , i got it working now, thank you for your help.

On another note i am interested in the modified engineering menu for future endeavors, how did you patch the SWF to gain access to it?
