Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

Personally, I hope that FCA doesn't allow drivers to respond to incoming texts.

If it's that important, then it's my view that the driver should pull over when safe to do so (and the freeway isn't a safe place to do so).

I don't want to sound like I'm pontificating. But really, there's more than enough info that the Jeep's systems can present to us that's distracting enough.

And yes, I have this feature enabled. But unless my wife is in the car who can then respond to it on the screen then I wait til I'm parked before I'll either listen to it or view it on the iPhone.

Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

i have a 2014 JGC diesel blackhawk/altitude that has an aftermarket GPS.
I want to get rid of it off the dash and would like comments about the UConnect 8.4" activation code i can get.
How good are the maps and updates?
is there anything the activation code doesn't open regarding maps? i.e voice command etc.
Thanks

- OK but getting dated. No sign of updates.
- Voice command doesn't work on Australian MY14s... with the exception of the go home instruction.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

Thanks Steve. Ebay has a bloke offering the codes for $600 about what i paid for my last VMS unit. If FCA are using' here' maps why are they not current?
my software version is 14.25.5 is this current or dated. I had my last service a month ago at the Jeep dealer.

Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

It's a f*#king good question Dean... I guess the excuse is that there's an amount of recompiling the map data to suit the vehicle system. Whilst we're all accepting it, Cheap are not going to spend the money to do it. I expect the topic is going to escalate past very low simmer sometime... but in how long? I haven't checked, but apparently new Grands on the sales lot have the same aging data.

Software updates do not involve map data at all.

Maybe it's time we hit social media and ask the question of when?

Regarding the investment, you know my thoughts from the Caravanner's thread so I won't repeat.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

You would think they would want to be up to date with their upgrades to keep people coming back, but if it's all too hard for them they may miss sales. I would also think that if they offer a navigation system in their models they would have a patch of some sort or develop software that interface with the map providors.
Wonder how other manufacturers are doing? Surely Toyota and Mercedes, even Holden and Ford have nav systems, are they as far behind as Jeep? they aren't cheap so you would think they would offer value for money.

Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

So to drum up some activity I have just posed the question via Twitter to @jeepaustralia and also had a robust discussion with Jacob at Jeep Australia customer service. As he had no more information than that on the Uconnect website, I asked for the matter to be escalated and to receive a call back.

We need to consider that once new hardware arrives we will likely lose a considerable amount of leverage.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

At least you have asked the question. I can't for the life of me understand why Jeep have an issue with this, after all it's part of their software they provide, and market it as a feature of their vehicles. .
Makes you wonder what else they are skimping on. As i said over on caravanners i am only interested in getting rid of the clutter on the dash and the integrated unit was the way to go.
Just after i bought the car i was offered the feature by the dealer via a phone call and he told me it would cost me $2500. i declined his kind offer saying i couldn't see the value, if it wasn't supported.

Hi Dean, I took up the ebay offer last week : WK2 DownUnder

Enjoying the larger display. the only thing i've found so far that may not be activated is 3D display. Ticking 2D/3D doesn't appear to make any difference.
I've not tried voice activation.
Also running 14.25.5

Cheers Trev

Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

Thanks for that Trev. Are the maps up to date or fairly dated. I don't want to spend $600 if they are older than I have got. My VMS has a 7" screen so it's fairly big anyway just want it off my dash.

Hi Dean, as mentioned in a followup post, the maps are already in your system. The activation only gives you access to them. Others have mentioned they are older (like 2014) but I believe someone mentioned they are included in the data when you do a system update, hence the fact they are lurking behind the screen waiting for that activation key.

So to clarify, you are not purchasing updates.

I too am happy to have my dash cleaned up. and do carry my TomTom if I know I need to go somewhere that has/had new construction or road upgrades.

I had a Holden Captiva before the Jeep. It was a 2011 model. In 2014 I enquired about a map update. Most recent was dated 2013 and would have cost me $380. Despite repeated queries to Holden and repeated condescending form letter replies I never did get any further.

My wife has a Hyundai ix35 Highlander. It has a navigator. It runs the Here maps, same as the Jeep. According to Hyundai's own website it updates the maps annually, around August. However, the map in hers is dated 2014 about the same as what the Jeep's is.

My advice - if you don't have it, don't piss your money away on an upgrade to Uconnect. Spend $200 and get a Tomtom with lifetime updates. TT's maps and nav software is better, anyway.

Oh, I too don't see much difference in the display when tapping 2D or 3D.
