Also, license file needs to match your device (the Jeep license files on the map disks work for any uconnect that matches i.e. MY15 requires a MY15 license, which can be obtained from an RJ4 MY15 update disk).

If you want to use other licenses from other devices you can, but you need the hacked NaviServer application. (this is required if you buy maps from the Android app to get a valid license)

Leighm0!! With all this knowledge i am sure to brick it.... LOL

I have everything ready but i am stuck on a couple things and hoping you can clear it up for me as i can't seem to find the details.
1. how to get past iso check MY16version=16.33.29?
2. can you give example of the file and what line to edit to run "script.lua" instead of updates?

Cheers!

Hey,

1. Nah you need to use an older iso which allows you to skip iso checks... details on this thread starting from page 17 onwards uConnect 15.26.1 is buggy; I want to downgrade.
2. As above has a bunch of posts about how to modify the iso using a hexedit to disable iso checks and insert the script loading.

Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

Hi all, I can telnet (192.168.6.1 ) to ports 22, 23 & 6667 and presented login / password prompts. The response at port 6667 presents SSH-2.0-Open SSH_5.2.... only and no $ prompt to work with a command line.

My firmware is 14.25.5

Just being overly cautious I quess as just wanted to get to the point I have a $ Command prompt to surf around the file system using GiT Bash or via PuTTY. Am I on the right track as seem to be close. (Using Laptop with D-Link DUB-E100 Rev B1 is fine). Pretty sure ssh should give up the command line.

Any advice to progress as it appears I should be able to bypass the login credentials?

You can modify the root password in the 14.25.5 ISO firmware disk using the S flag to bypass ISO checking. This was detailed in the Hacking PDF that has been posted on the net about the Cherokees, and also details on modifying iso in this thread.

Basically you just modify the ISO with a hexeditor add the S Flag at Byte 0x80, then you search for "root:" (around Byte 0x5e8a4dbh) and it should show you something like "root:ug6HiWQAm947Y" this is the current encrypted password "shadow" entry, you need to change the part "ug6HiWQAm947Y" to "8CNGLiYvSaCbg" which changes the password to "root". Then run the firmware over your car, then after it has finished you should then be able to Telnet or SSH in and login as "root" with password "root".

Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

Leighm0, the advice and firmware reload worked like a breeze and my issues were with a certain Hex editor and swapped to the trial 'ultraedit' which just makes life so easy and now have root access.

SSH, using SCP command, I kept getting the 'Read only file system' so if we are copying files manually, I had success with first "mount -uw /fs/mmc0/ SCP the files and then then chmod 555 once copied and finally mount -ur /fs/mmc0/ to finish this off.

No change to the unit yet, as in no button on nav but I think its because of below:

So the RJ3 (My Laredo without nav) has two files LYC sitting within the ..NNG/license directory and I just added the 2 x MY14 update files but not working just yet. Should I remove the original files and just keep the 2 MY14 here?
Once I sort this, then I should be able to use the MY14 ISO map update file.

Once you are logged in, you can re-mount the MMC0 and MMC1 filesystems as "read-write" like so:
mount -uw /fs/mmc0/
mount -uw /fs/mmc1/

However the root filesystem (locations like /etc and /bin) are not able to be remounted as read-write, so they are always read-only... the only way to modify files in those locations is to create your own firmware binary files and apply them to the unit (like it does during the FW upgrades). This was detailed in the PDF article.

In order to Activate Navigation, License files are not the only thing to do this, as the License files from the Maps disk are for RJ4 Limited (so uConnect 8.4AN devices), so pushing these files alone will not activate nav. You need to either modify your uconnect "/dev/fram/productid" file to be a VP4 unit (you can also set DAB and other functions on in this file, such as the built-in Wireless device), or patch the "/fs/mmc0/app/share/hmi/main.swf" to "Push True" the Navigation (to display the icon), and of course you need the license files present for maps to be active.

Thanks for the assist, and I assure you others are watching and following with detail. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry as pulled off my main.swf and the extracted as ready for modding from RABCDAsm. Its like looking up a ladies dress, you just don't do it as its confronting and what to do with it. Just joking, but people should know it gets advanced past copying and moving files to date. Licence files are in as done.

productid file will look into that now as well as this might be a safer option for me first given DAB is available and wirelsss will save cabling. It does not have an .ext and cannot pull that via ssh at present. Research continuing.

main.swf is easy to decompile, modify, and recompile. Takes all of 5 minutes, if that. Decompile it with RABCDAsm, open the main file with notepad++ or similar, locate the "push false" entries below the Navigation section and change it to "push true" (i think it is the second "push false" in this file), save the file (or modify the 3rd "push false" to true also for SRT stuffs), then use RABCDAsm to recompile it with the changes into the original main.swf. Done. Copy to car.

Changing productid is done during firmware time (so use the swdl.iso and a lua script) I believe. You don't need to muck about with the DAB config item, and also turning on the Wifi option Disables the GPS (not sure why, possibly it is some kind of dual antenna or something, not really looked into it)

Re: UConnect 8.4 International / Export

Well, finally got chance to play and modified the .swf file and all good. as with swf you get to compile and recheck your work before loading. Tried the wifi enable, and notices that empty directory will be removed on reboot but let that slide as don't want to interfere with GPS I now think I have trouble with the licence files installed as I get the icon, 'navigation is being activated' and this screen remains. Nearly there at that must mean its not accepting my 4 files obtained.

What are the files called and where did you get them? Also what model is your vehicle... they have to match.
