Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

Thanks for this great post. I would like to advise readers that when you order the Luxury Group II you get the RA3. I mistakenly thought that once the dealer installed the nav I'd have all the features I could get. NOT SO - as your article points out.

I was very lucky in being able to change my order to upgrade to the RA4 radio after it had been submitted to the factory.

The crazy part is that the RA4 costs about $600 extra as a factory install, almost exactly the same price as you'd pay to have the nav programmed into the RA3. Big difference is that the RA4 includes the HD radio, 3D nav and other features. The ONLY reason I can think of for getting the RA3 is if you do not want navigation.

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

Does anyone know if the part numbers changed from the 2014 RA4 to 2015 RA4 units?

I'll look them up when I get a chance today or tonight.

Had to of as the hardware was changed (vendor?) somehow. MY14 and MY15 cannot share software updates.

Not to burst your bubble but this has been this way since day 1. People need to make sure they go over EVERYTHING when they order to make sure they are getting what they think.

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

Looking at the parts changes, there have been two "major" changes to the RA4 (and RA3) radios.

The first one was during the MY2014 mid-year changes. The part number itself changes for vehicles with the [XZZ] mid-year tracking code. Normally a simple "revision" to a part changes its suffix from "AA" to "AB", etc. The entire part number changes (in general) when there's a major change (though this isn't ALWAYS the case -- sometimes this is a compatibility denotion because something ELSE had a major change). The mid-year change has a different part number entirely.

The second change was for MY2015 -- there's an entirely different part number again.

You're not bursting my bubble at all. It was my bad! I thought that I had gone over everything, but missed this. That's why I made the post.

Just for kicks I "built" a new 2015 from the website I used to "build" when I ordered. The option of the RA4 radio was clearly an option for the 2015 that I don't recall seeing when I "built" the 2014.

At any rate I was only hoping to help folks avoid making the same mistake I did.

could you please post the RA3 and RA4 2015 part numbers? I'm looking to do a swap from RA3 to 4 and want to make sure I get the 2015 model.

Yep. However, RA4 radios before and after 7/23/13 mid yr refresh take exact same Uconnect updates but MY15 have their own files. Must have been a major change for MY15.

What it generally means is that the changes in mid-year 2014 were potentially enough for a new part number but not enough to justify different software (the changes could be identified/accounted for in the same software package). The 2015 changes are large enough to justify a different software package entirely.

Well here's where it gets more fun. Do you want the version with Uconnect access? Sirius? Etc. There are different part numbers for these "options."

Also--be careful. There could be wiring and other incompatibilities as well. Generally parts will supersede part numbers to the next model year (or changes) numbers if they are simply drop-ins (easier than maintaining separate numbers in the supply chain).
