Thanks!
believe i started here:
Uconnect® Access for Chrysler, Dodge, FIAT , Jeep & Ram

wouldn't say it was simple - have to install some akamai loader on computer to do the download, put the .iso file on usb, and lots of steps in procedure, with opening/closing doors, buttons, etc. but somehow i got it done. (and i'm an IT guy)

14 and 15 are not interchangeable and are on different update paths/schedules. Check your VIN here:

https://rsur.extra.chrysler.com/rsur/Uconnect.do

Change records are not available until it becomes a TSB and that can be found here:

I wonder if they don't "merge the codebase" at some point to make their lives easier. If I've been following correctly there's no significant feature differences (yet...) between them. It's not even clear ( yet...) if there's a significant hardware difference between the model numbers.

Like how apple or tivo runs "the same software" and has the same release schedule on multiple generations of hardware.

They changed the hardware big enough to issue a totally different part number. The changes obviously required a different firmware/bios so the 14 and 15 likely can never share an update. There's no way they would complicate their supply chain unless they had too.

Sure the firmware/software is a different image but- you can still install a VERSION of IOS 8 on any apple device from the past few generations of hardware. Apple releases the various different firmware images all on the same day. The older ones just run slower and when they're missing required hardware then those features dont work. No reason that Fiat/Chrysler couldn't do the same.

Basically they write the very low level stuff differently for each version of hardware but then the parts that go on top are the same. Just like you can get a windows pc from Dell, HP, Lenovo, or some guy building them on the corner, and they all work fine to run windows and your apps that runs on windows. Those machines might be a tablet, a desktop, a laptop or some hybrid. They might have Intel CPUs or AMD CPUs or maybe even something based on a totally different architecture like ARM. The graphics components might be from many different places. Maybe you have a DVD player, maybe it's a CD player, maybe a bluray, maybe a burner. Still they all run windows and will let you use the turbotax app for windows.

So they could eventually get to a point where they are running the same user visible code even though there would be a different firmware image for the 14s and 15s

So u r saying they have intentionally complicated the software update process for service techs, customers and their IT staff even though they could have easily made it so 14's and 15's share the same update file?

Sorry, not sold. Something is different.

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

Reading thru these latest posts got me to wondering - where's Willx, the guru of all things Uconnect and the one who started this thread? His last post anywhere on the forum was 7/28/14. Willx - where are you, man??
