I amend my opinion to the changes being just for stability/fixes to make it thru MY16 only. As for new features, maybe some for MY16 but I'm gonna guess Uconnect as we know it technically and physically will cease to exist aft MY16 and they will move to a brand new FCA platform for MY17+.....Apple CarPlay?

I think Chrysler?FCA has discovered they do not have, nor can/should they build it out, a core competency in vehicle multimedia, interconnected systems.

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

I wonder, if a new platform is released in MY17, will there be a chance it would be compatible with MY14-15 electronics architecture? It would be a real shame to have a 2 year old vehicle with an obsolete and orphaned infotainment system. It would be worth replacing at a reasonable cost. My particular interest here is the unsupported nav feature.

I'm not really sure about this. UConnect is one of the better rated systems. Why create another one? UConnect is going to go through changes, but as Willix mentioned a while back, this should be a base platform that will be used for many years to come.

I don't know for sure if they will move to something else in MY17 but this is already the GEN2 system. Gen 1 was Dart and 300 and it was by Panasonic and THAT system is going away in the next couple of years. I have NOT heard that the current RA3/4 was getting replaced (it is being adapted for smaller displays)

TMK the current platform is still the standard, still better than Cadillac Cue and other premium systems and the last I heard, the recent hardware updates to the radio (2015 RA3/4) was to support future capabilities. If it was an EOL product the 2013/14 Radio would have suited them for many years because they still aren't full utilizing all of its capabilities.

Well, they better start doing something with the map problem or it might as well be EOL.

In the thread titled 2014 8.4AN Uconnect Update to 15.06.1 Willx said,

Sorry Guys,

I forgot to come back to this... I have a 15 RAM and Cherokee. I have run the 15.06 on those units. I was asking the OP what his vehicle year and model was to see if it was a 2015. You SHOULD NOT run the 15.06 on a 14. It fixes specific issues with the 15 radios and will break numerous functionalities in the 14 Radio should you actually get it to run the install.

There will be further releases to the 13/14 RA3 and RA4 Series Radios. I have seen later revisions in testing but when they updated the hardware specs in the 2015 and forward part number, they broke a whole new slew of things. Treat them like different radios for now. I know there are people saying they are the same, THEY ARE NOT. Also I can tell you they are not specifically better at anything at this point either, so don't think you are missing out on anything.

My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 14.25 has less gremlins than I got with the 2015 radios.

...And when asked about map updates he said,

Totally ok, They were going to do it but still have some infrastructure issues with the delivery. We all remember the 13.19 update and the reasons I started posting the radio updates in the first place, well they are trying to get their ducks in line. The large file size is an issue, so they discussed SD card distribution but it doesn't sound like that will happen either.

Every time I heard that it was coming it got bumped back (and one version update). I don't have any concrete info at this time except that it very very likely will be posted as a download, they are probably going to do the 2014s with a free update and it is supposed to be the proverbial "soon"

That is all I got
