Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

Wish list
Add a towing option to the navigation. (This could happen with enough support)

Please help out as it only will take two minutes of your time.

When towing you are not allowed on some roads such as parkways. You cant use the navigation as it has options for avoiding Expressways, highways, Toll roads ect. but no option for avoiding parkways. After spending a lot of money on this vehicle with navigation and a tow package to buy a separate GPS unit and have to store it makes no sense to me. Even the Ram Pickups don't have it since it is the same GPS.
I spoke with Uconnect Garmin and they said if enough people submit the request they can add the feature on the next update.
So what am I asking:
Please go

http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/

Select the category: OEM

In Subject include the Navigation model u have and describe what you want. I have copied a sample of what I put below. The more people that do this the higher the chances of them adding it on their next free Uconnect software update.

"I have a Uconnect 8.4AN/RA4 and I would like there to be an option to avoid parkways or a tow option that will avoid restricted truck roads such as parkways."

If you need this like now, take a look at independent mfg's, like Garmin. They market versions specifically for the trucker/RV communities, and they store in the glove box. Also there is a paper truck/RV atlas that has all this info and more.

Take a look at the dēzl™ 560LMT.

Motor Carriers' Road Atlas

I know I keep pushing Garmin, but have no interest in them. They just market what folks need.

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

I'm not sure they would include it becasue it's more than just saying don't route on "Parkways" - they would need to be more specific and include the data for where trailers are permitted and where not and not. I'm certain they have the data, but since it's more complex I'm sure they'll not want to include it for free.

For example- in NJ the Garden State Parkway allows trailers of a certain size (I believe the entire length) and then south of milepost 105 even 18 wheelers are permitted. I think the powhite parkway in VA is similarly "not a parkway". In NY I think "parkway" even bans commercial plates even if just a pickup or durango, etc. So there's not just one definition of parkway.

That said- i'm heading over to add my voice so maybe they include some options for us.

UConnect 8.4 - North America

Truly thought this would be the thread talking about the latest f/w upgrade availability due to this hacking nonsense. Yes... I saw the main thread about it. Question is, do we have a place to DOWNLOAD the update instead of having YET ANOTHER reason to visit the God-forsaken dealership?

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

I installed the latest update on the USB stick they mailed to us. Since I did this (10 days ago) I have had two instances of the entire screen going blank and unresponsive. The first time I reset the screen simply by turning off the ignition and then back on. The second time that didn't work, but the next day it was back to normal. The dealership says they can't do much unless I take it to them while the screen is not working.

Anyone else have a similar issue?

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

Anyone have the latest update they can post up? Mine came from the factory with the 5.0 screen. I replaced that with the 8.4AN but they won't update my VIN info to reflect this upgrade. That means Uconnect can't give me the correct update.

Try this VIN 1C4RJEBM3EC322686 on Uconnect™ | Support | System Identification and you will get the latest update for 2014 8.4AN model.

I really hope so. But I'm not optimistic for my '14 as the software updates seemed to have come to a halt.

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

Don't hold your breath.
Even between the 14 and 15 HU there were updated hardware.
I suspect CarPlay will be more of an hardware issuse and won't but just software, hence not for the 14-15 GC
