I have a similar complaint. If listening to SXM and I switch sources to Bluetooth, if I keep it on Bluetooth and turn off the vehicle, upon restarting, it will recall that I was listening to Bluetooth audio. However, If I switch back to RADIO, instead of remembering that I was on an SXM channel previously, it automatically throws it into FM, no matter what, and not recalling what RADIO source I was on prior to switching to Bluetooth.

Has anybody else noticed this? I think this may be a programming overlook.

(This only happens after turning off the vehicle and letting it sit. As long as you are in your current trip, and not powering off the vehicle, the RADIO will recall the last source.)

I wonder if that is because there is a lag time before the system finds the SXM satellite(s), and therefore reverts to a mode that has a signal. I think if you are listening to SXM and lose the signal it will switch modes.

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

SXM signal doesn't get to my JGC when I'm parked in my garage. Even after sitting over night it stays on SXM when I restart, and has a box on the screen that says searching for signal, or something like that. When I back out of the garage it starts playing.

Jacko15

Thanks for the prompt reply. Before posting, I did discover the thread discussing whether the head unit could be turned "off" verses merely muted. However I was unable to find any dealing with my specific issue that the head unit fails to retain the mute/unmute state when the vehicle restarts. (If I've missed it, I apologize.)

This seems like a software issue that can be corrected in a future update, which was my understanding of the purpose of this thread.

Thanks again.

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

Bill... That's what I was saying, mine doesn't switch modes, even without signal.

KPH_TX... I understand what you're saying. I guess the best solution for now would be to turn the volume to zero with the knob or on the steering wheel before shutting down. Not great, but no sound on start up.

The way the amp works in these that is pretty well off.

Re: UConnect 8.4 - North America

I just updated my system to 13.38.52 tonight and I have a couple comments as a mac user ...

I first tried using the uconnect site to download the update. I selected MacOS and then clicked to download the akamai package. I got a disk image, but opening the image showed nothing in it. I tried all 3 browsers (mozilla, chrome, safari) and got the same result on all of them. Out of curiosity, I tried looking at the disk image on the command line and saw the .pkg file there. I tried doing an "open" of the package but that didn't do anything.

So then I used the jeepgarage link to download the update. Unfortunately that's a windows executable. Willx's post indicates for mac you can just download a zip program, but that isn't accurate. The .exe is not a zip file, it's a self-extracting executable. So I finally gave up and launched my windows virtual machine and ran the executable, extracting onto the thumb drive.

After that the installation went very smoothly. After I installed, I ignored the advice to let it sit for 24 hours and started playing with it. For the most part, no ill effects were observed except once briefly I saw the Phone Service screen. So then I followed the instructions to completely shut down the vehicle and start back up to see if I got it during startup. Didn't see it, and haven't seen it since. And everything seems to be running just fine (so far) ....

Nobody said not to use it for 24 hours. The advice was, if you saw problems (like the phone needs service) just ignore them for a day or two.

IIRC, willx did have a zip file for the first update he posted. He may have to either add something or change the description.

I have walked a number of Mac users through unzipping the exe file. Most people were able to find a tool and or follow hint sites such as these.

Mind you I can also repost it as a straight ISO file so it can be dropped directly to a USB stick if anyone would find that easier?
