I promised that I searched for the answer, but I found nothing.
Are there any downsides to getting UConnect 8.4A AM/FM/BT/Access and then paying for NAV hookup? Except for the cost of course. Any missing features, etc...?
Just wondering because I changed my search parameters on the Jeep website to this and I am now seeing a bunch of vehicles in my area that have the option (ORA II) I want that did not show up before.
I understand there is no HD radio on the A vs AN. I am enjoying having HD radio. I hate listening to AM stations and a few of the AM stations simulcast on FM HD substations... (i.e. in pgh 1020 KDKA AM can be heard on 93.7 KDKA FM-HD2)
I think the 3D feature they're talking about is the buildings/landscape. When I was in Long Beach last weekend, some of the buildings would show on the map as a 3D model
Hmm interesting, navigon on my ipad shows like that, have to pay more attention to my nav in the city... Maybe someone could snap a pic of the nav around town so i could confirm
Anyone know if the 8.4A RA3 will play video files? I know, not condoned while driving, but would be nice for my son to be able to watch movies while we're sitting in a parking lot waiting for my wife to get done grocery shopping, etc.
Another thing missing on the 8.4A is the live traffic. Doesn't show you or tell you where there are incidents and to my knowledge there's no way to get it on the 8.4A. If anyones knows if there's a way, I'd really like to know. I suppose that would be under traffic link on the 8.4AN....
I don't know of a way either. The thing and this is what really gets me is that in the manual that I downloaded (on page 128), it says this:
From the Nav Main Menu, touch the Information softkey and select one of the following options to view additional information.
•
Traffic
•
Where Am I?
•
Trip Computer
NOTE:
You can touch the back arrow soft-key to return
to the previous screen or the X soft-key to exit.
Obviousy, I now know that you can't. Very, very disappointed (especially as I sat in traffic for an hour this morning not knowing the problem). OK, that is not entirely true as I looked it up on my phone.
I've since changed my mind on paying the extra $595 to activate NAV on my 8.4A. That price is just too high for a lesser form of NAV that has no traffic ability.
If the price were to drop below $400, then I'd think about it again. But until then, I'll use that $595 and put it towards accessories like wheel locks, front tow hooks, pedal cover kit, cargo & slush mats, and lighted door sills.
I got lucky at my dealers expense when it came to the 8.4A. Originally I went in to the dealer with a 2014 GC Limited, Red, Tan interior in mind. I picked out the one on the lot I wanted which had 8.4AN because I wanted the Nav capability. While I'm waiting in the showroom for the GC to be detailed the sales man comes up and says they have a minor issue. He tells me the porter driving my new GC around back to get detailed ran into another vehicle. So he gives me a loner GC Limited with the 8.4A, no nav. He told me they will have another one in sometime next week. In the meantime I'm starting to like the one they loaned me, it was blue with black but I really liked it. So the dealer waived the $600 upgrade charge plus gave me another detail and a second free tank of gas, it had like 35 miles to empty when it brought it back in. Not sure I'd go back to that dealer again, but it worked out good for me.
My dealership ended up activating NAV on my 8.4A for free in response to all my troubles with an airbag module. I like the way it even displays turn directions in the center display inside the speedo readout!
I place my order for the a 2015 GC Altitude and I have the dealer adding NAV, but after doing research on this site I think I want the RA4. Does anyone know if I am able to order my 2015 GC Altitude with the RA4 instead of the RA3? Dealer is saying he doesn't see that as an option.
