Had a problem with my 75th Anniversary Laredo UConnect update this evening. I downloaded the update to a USB stick and the update downloaded in the Jeep...until right at the end the screen started to cycle through a black screen then red/black screen then a white screen where it said something to the effect "Please insert update USB". This screen cycled through for 10 mins before I called UConnect customer support. Apparently this is an issue that has been happening to "a few" of the 2016 Jeeps. I will have to take it to the dealer now to have it reset. I wish I had known this was a potential issue...I certainly wouldn't have attempted an update going into a holiday weekend road trip. I have my fingers crossed this can be resolved quickly. If anyone has also had this issue I would love to hear how long it took to be resolved and what the issue turned out to be. Thanks!
Have a 2016 Cherokee with Uconnect 8.4AN, did the same. Followed the update instructions, there were 2 update files. First update of 3 systems went through without any issue, system reset and the 2nd update of 14 systems started up. Got to right around update 6, screen went blank, like it had done before, but it came up with the Jeep/SiriusXM Satellite Radio splash screen, like you get when the system first comes up. After several seconds the screen goes blank and then the Jeep splash screen comes up. This was 15 hours ago.
Called Uconnect they said that I would need to take it to the Dealership.
Researched other Jeep sites and found some reset options: press both the Mute and Browse/Scroll buttons together until the screen goes blank. I see the time reset on the display, but the cycle returns.
Pressing both Hot/Cold buttons on both Driver and Passenger, have duel climate, to bring up the Engineering Menu, does nothing.
Turning ignition to run, have button start, pressing the Green phone icon and IVR buttons on the steering for 30 seconds, turning off the ignition and opening the driver door for 30 seconds, closing door and turning system back to run did not appear to have any affect.
I even removed the fuse80 for the Radio, confirmed that the radio did not power on, does nothing.
SO unless someone else has a hard reset method that does not require any Uconnect menu, looks like it's off to the Dealership.
Morning guys. Sorry to hear of your troubles. Wow, red, white and black flashing screens sound so Wes Craven. I agree with FCA, let a dealer sort that out.
I can explain how I succeeded and maybe that will help. Short answer is keep the display awake for the entire process.
Got the update and it took a couple tries to get the disk format right and the files in the correct structure on the disk. Two tries and the Jeep saw the USB and knew it needed to update. The first three updates went without a hitch.
Next group of 14, same happened to me. After 5 clean updates, screen went black and stayed that way. Dummy I am, pulled the USB, turned off the Jeep and walked away. Came back a few minutes later and turned on the system to see what the update did. It took a little longer than normal and then said "Insert USB..." so I did. Nothing... Turned off the ignition, counted to ten and turned it on again. It started applying update 1 of 14.
This time I decided not to let the system sleep, similar idea to my laptop on battery. I kept touching the display as each new update started. There were some tough spots, the Sirius/XM Satellite Radio was a nail biter. But it kept going and I kept watching, kept touching the screen. On the really long ones I touched the display every 10%. After about 45 minutes it finished and rebooted.
Cycled power to the ignition et voila! Pulled the USB, cycled power again just to be sure and it worked.
Figured it wouldn't hurt explaining what worked for me. No promises or delusions it will work the same for anyone else. Have a wonderful day!
SO I called the dealership and I have an appointment to bring it in next week. BUT in the mean time they said that none of tips/tricks I found actually do a hard reset. They said the only way to do a hard reset is to disconnect the battery for at least 8 hours. So my jeep is sitting in the driveway powerless at the moment. I guess we'll see what happens . . .
