I do like this feature, and have used it a few times in the past 2 weeks, but will probably not renew when my free year is up.
It seems strange that Pandora and the other music apps would still work since they would be coming over the cellular connection I assume, and that is really what you are paying for in the monthly subscription.

You use the cellular connection from your smart phone, and it is transmitted via bluetooth. You do not get cellular from your subscription.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

As long as both the phone and Jeep have decent cellular service, it is a nice feature to have. I particularly like it when I am at a hotel and have to freakin' valet park, which I HATE doing. I can see exactly where my vehicle is and if they're somewhere they shouldn't be. Also nice to be able to lock the car when my memory fails to recall if I actually did or not.

The service was complete crap when I first got my Jeep, but I think they released an update of the UConnect app and it has improved substantially. Though, the app still randomly opens anytime I open the native Music app on my iPhone and then close it.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

My one year UConnect trial expired in March. I enjoyed the smartphone capability for long-distance remote starting and the occasional "Did I lock the truck?" moment, but I think they are nuts to ask for $15.00 a month or $150.00 a year for the service. $5.00, maybe $10, but I couldn't do it. For what it is, I feel it is very overpriced.

I will miss the feature, but I'd rather pay for Sirius.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

Like most have mentioned, didn't activate on our '15 and am unlikely to do so,unless my wife wants to,I agree $150 is on the steep side especially as I can't see using most of what's offered.Suprisingly enough, the rep who sold me the vehicle had purchased a '15 JGC for his wife and was very honest, explained why he wouldn't use it.Appreciated that as he was in "Jeep owner mode" and not salesman.Nice.

Having had a Grand Cherokee stolen, the Stolen Vehicle Assistance is one of the features I find most comforting, plus I get a discount on my insurance. Does this go away if you let the subscription expire?

I have the 8.4 radio and Send2Car feature is worth the money since I use my GPS a lot.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

I'm in the resounding "No" department.

I used the remote start/unlock app a couple times, but I get great range on my key fob (like a good football field worth) so it works perfectly fine to start the car from across the lot. By the time I walk over to the Jeep, the snow is already starting to melt off the windshield. I don't need the Jeep wasting my gas for any more than that.

The rest of the features are rubbish.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

Just got a trial Uconnect today via e-mail. Bad news is that it is only good until May 1. Wow, I get 12 days for free. What a joke.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

Hey there, just bought a 2016 GC this weekend and I am wondering if this feature is only available in the US? I am in Canada and it doesn't look like I have this option. I haven't looked too much into it yet though.

It is my wife's daily driver and she really wants the remote start from the phone as she had it on her last SUV (she takes a train to work and it is nice to start the SUV 10-15 minutes before the train arrives on the days it is 20 below). I would rather just pay for this then have to install an aftermarket system.

Thanks

If app based remote start is all you want, you really might want to consider the aftermarket route. It will be far cheaper in the long run and possibly work better and offer more features.

For example, the Jeep app is super slow. Some of the aftermarket systems tend to be a bit quicker at actually accomplishing the start once you initiate it.

Further, while the app tells it sent the request, it offers no feedback as to whether it actually did it. In short, the Jeep doesn't talk back to the app to confirm the start really happened. Many of the aftermarket systems offer two way communication, including door and lock status and even location without the bloated monthly fee.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

I would like to preface this questions with... Sorry for for the ignorant "old-guy" questions....

I just got a 2015 Grand Cherokee and this whole Uconnect subscription vs. "no-subscrition-just-use-your-smartphone" is confusing to me for some reason (oh yea...old man!!).

  • I have a very capable smartphone that can connect to my car with bluetooth.
  • I use a Pandora app on my phone that my daughter set up for me (old man thing again!)
  • I want hands-free and voice activated phone capabilities when driving
  • I don't care enough about the Uconnect remote features to pay them $150/year, if my smartphone can do everything I want.

My questions:
Without Uconnect can I...
  • Make voice-activated phone calls?
  • Still "Listen" to texts and respond (voice? or other?)
  • Acces my Pandora app through my phone?
  • What are other limitations to my GC's system by me not subscribing to Uconnect?

Again, sorry for the ignorant questions. I have read a lot of previous posts here, but I can't seem to be able to get it to make sense to me. All replies will be greatly appreciated!
