Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

Good day all ye smarter than me,

So I'm torn as to whether the subscription is worth it to activate the UConnect 8.4 on my new-to-me 2014 GC.

I've already activated a subscription to SiriusXM after having it in the spousal's car and falling in love with it...

But is the added $150 / yr really worth it to add the Uconnect as well???
What benefits - besides all the additional music options - is it really giving me I might see value in?

I thank you all in advance for your input.

For me the answer is no. I have a new 16 summit and it comes with a year of free uconnect. I haven't even bothered to sign up even though it is free. If you don't have a smart phone then maybe, but if you do I really don't see any real advantage to it. Maybe someone else can come up with a good reason to use it.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

If you have a smartphone, then the UConnect service is redundant, not to mention expensive. In short, NO, it's not worth it.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

Thank you gentlemen...
That is the reassurance I wasn't misguided in my understanding of what it would be giving my compared to my smart phone... which is basically nothing.

Much appreciated!

I haven't signed up for the free 1 year trial either. Don't think I will.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

I live in the city so the one feature that made the subscription worth it to me is notification via my cell phone if my car alarm goes off. It gives me a little piece of mind for what I consider a modest amount of money but I don't use a single other feature of the subscription and I really, really, hope I never get the alert my alarm is going off.

Have to pay the fee for the remote start via smart phone app- but as I have an infant- being able to start the car from anywhere is great- just need a cell phone signal- car runs for 15 min- takes about 1-2min for the remote start command to initiate
Same if you think you forget to lock it- can do it remotely for some pease of mind....

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

I have only a limited experience with uConnect on my MY16 Overland. The advantages that I see are the ability to use Pandora, iHeart radio, etc from the screen rather than fumbling with your smartphone while driving. It's an easy set up and works well.

I do like the remote start and door lock feature. I think these features are only available with a subscription. They work well. I see a real advantage for those of us who live in colder climates during the winter.

I have tried the send and go feature and it also works well. When you start your Jeep the location is ready for your Nav unit.

I will never use the hot spot capability and I could care less about Yelp.

These are convenience features and certainly aren't necessary. I guess each person needs to decide it they are worth it. When I picked up my Jeep I asked how many people subscribe to uConnect. I heard it's about 40% cancel and 60% continue to subscribe.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

I subscribed to the free 1 yr subscription, to try it out. I feel that $150/yr is real steep to just be able to start/lock/unlock my car with a smartphone.

I do like the Pandora on the screen... I thought this was free, part of the car technology package. ??? Is that not the case?

I know you can stream from the iphone without the app, but ???

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

Never activated it in my 15 and have no plans to do so in my 16. $150/year is robbery in my eyes. If it was a few $$ a month I would consider it, but I'd rather spend that money elsewhere.

Re: Uconnect subscription - is it worth it?

On my 14 I had the year free. Occasionally I used the remote start, but I let it lapse after the year, and never missed it. Pandora and the other music apps will still work after the trial expires, so no need to renew for the music. I just got my 2016, and it has one new feature called send and go, where you can look up the address from the app on your phone, and send it to the vehicle. I do like this feature, and have used it a few times in the past 2 weeks, but will probably not renew when my free year is up.
