Uconnect update question

I just updated my 2015 overland to the latest uconnect software. Now I can't get hacked (I wasn't that concerned in the first place, just wanted to see if the update had any new goodies)

My question is this: can I use the same usb stick and install it on my brothers 2015 Cherokee or does the Cherokee require a different software?

Re: Uconnect update question

That's a good question.

The good news is that the first thing that happens when you put the usb stick in, is that the system checks for compatible software. Once the software is verified you get the "Do you want to update xxx to yyy"

Since the software has the background screens for the various models and selects the right one, my guess is that you are good to go.

Re: Uconnect update question

Accosding the FCA, as I understand it, the USB stick is VIN specific and can only be used one time. But I guess it can't hirt to try it

Re: Uconnect update question

If you check the stick after you load the software to the radio you'll find a file has been added to it. It's name is swdlLog. In the install instructions it states that no other files can be on the stick. So at the very least you need to delete this file before trying to load the update on another vehicle.

Re: Uconnect update question

Update:

I installed the same file onto the Cherokee and it seemed to install just fine.

Re: Uconnect update question

I guess since the swdlLog file is a text file it doesn't matter.

Re: Uconnect update question

The file is definitely not VIN specific, I just go to a dealer website and find a random overland vin for my Ra4 swap. You can install it multiple times.
