There were updates posted May 22nd 2013 for the 2014 Grand Cherokee containing both the 8.4A or 8.4AN UConnect systems (RA3 and RA4 model option codes). The notes below are updated as I get more information on these updates. People have used both the files I have posted, and are confirmed GOOD as well as worked with the Chrysler UConnect website, which at time of this update is running EXTREMELY poorly.

FYI the site is awfully slow, probably due to increased volume. If you get the white Bar across the screen WAIT, if you enter your VIN and click the button and nothing happens WAIT.... or do the items below as per the instructions.

Instructions are Attached

** Confirmed update times for both versions are 9-10 min once USB is in (instructions state up to 45 must include the wait time for the UConnect site :lol:)
** It has also been noted that the Mega file downloads work much better with Google Chrome

Edit: So far the only reported issues are as follows

- If you had an "apps" button it will turn into "settings" but will turn back to "apps".
- You will MAY loose your XM Presets, some people seem to, probably relates to how old your original version is. The RA4 I did, DID NOT loose them
-This update does not include a Quadra-Lift setting for drop in park, I am not sure if this is possible but submit to Customer Service if this is something people want.

These items are confirmed good.

-NAV Presets saved are ok through upgrade.
-Phonebook is unaffected.
-Recent NAV Points are also not affected.
-Users haved noted a marked increase in Navigation speed.
-Users who were running the RAM Pickup update have had thier issues corrected.
-Bluetooth audio playback and track changes improved.
-General improvements in moving between applications

I will update this Post as Bugs and Fixes are reported.

** Please post back things you notice about these updates good and bad.

That site almost never works and they look to have removed the most recent round of updates. I seen somewhere where it said it supports only 30 people at a time. Totally makes sense when you are producing 1200 vehicles a day in one plant. Small amount of sarcasm about the UConnect site there in case no one notices :lol:

Maybe if all JGC owners would chip in $1 they could buy a new server and get rid of the dial-up connection, then we could all finally connect with Uconnect. :rolleyes:

Well thank you for looking into that. I may start another thread in the near future about some of these things we have learned through discussions like these. For example the keys are inherently identified differently by the vehicle at least with the latest update.

Lots of people complaining about presets flopping around and at least one of those story I read said the wife was in the car. So maybe two fobs in the car causes chaos!

Yes, the preset thing was confusing. Two fobs in the veh does cause chaos! It seems that when two fobs are in the car and you both are getting in and out of the veh numerous times(shopping) it depends on which fob signal Uconnect latches onto first determines which presets are present.

My uconnect system has been resetting multiple times per day. When it comes back up the touch screen is not responsive until the vehicle is powered down. Needless to say I'm pissed. Dealer ordered a new unit last week, was told it would be in today. Now I'm being told it won't be before early July. I had the system reset the day I purchased the vehicle. So annoyed. I have a case open with Jeep. Been waiting since Friday for a supervisor call back.

If I followed your posts correctly, the problem started after doing the update. That would make me think it is a software, not a hardware problem.

With nothing to lose, I would try reinstalling the update, using the one in post 1 of this thread.

Obviously, be sure to select the one for your radio and follow the instructions to the letter.

I say the same thing to everyone about that. This is a very new system, they are having some issues with it but it will get better because all of their infotainment systems are going to be based on this theme.

Trust me there are systems out there that were much worse on launch. The Unconnect 8.4AN did not try to kill me by telling me to go the wrong way on other interstate multiple times.... another manufacturer of premium products has. It was also flaky as hell.

But hey 8 updates later their system works pretty good now. They got it all fixed within about 7 or 8 months from launch but I still wouldn't say any of them were a "lemon"

Reporting back. So far (knock on wood) everything is back to normal. Had issues with vehicle phone requires services and reboots. I did factory reset and UNREGISTERED and REREGISTED again in UConnect (you can do in in UCONNECT store, it wipes out all the data and reloads it again).

I have to say the system works much faster now. I think there is something odd going on with registration process.

I have to say the system works much faster now. I think there is something odd going on with registration process.
I read the STAR Case on the registration not being successful and needing to make sure you have at least 2 bars of signal. Going to start another thread on UConnect Diagnostic stuff hopefully if I get a chance in the next couple of days. I will post the engineering menu instructions and factory reset notes as well.

Please let us know if there are further developments.

Adding in my comments. So far I seem like one of the lucky ones(knock on wood). Only issue I had before the update was VERY slow system, especially in NAV. Updated it 10 days ago and everything seems to be working a little faster. I also DID NOT lose any presets.

Excited for the Yelp to take over Bing this week!

My system froze up this morning. I posted a video on youtube.

I filled out the Jeep survey and somebody from Jeep called me yesterday concerned about the issues I was having with the Nav system, rebooting/freezing. I missed the call, but on the message they suggested I go to the dealer. I'll wait and see if they can fix this with software as the dealer probably won't be able to duplicate.

I've only had my 2014 Limited for a few weeks and am really enjoying it but yesterday something weird happened.

My doors wouldn't lock with any of the three (left door, right door, hatch) outside buttons once yesterday afternoon and I had to use my key fob to lock it. Does this have anything to do with the radio or is it controlled somewhere else.

The compatibility wizard needs to be updated. It does not show the latest software compatibility for smart phones. For instance for Verizon Samsung smart phones it list only the Nexus which Verizon no longer carries and for Apple I5 it list the EOS system as 6.0 but Verizon shows 6.1.1. and the 6.0 for the 4s. It would be helpful for members that have the 8.4 AN to post what cell phone and carrier they have and if all functions are working. I put in an inquiry to Samsung noting that their S4 is not listed by Uconnect as compatible and asked them to check it out. I need to buy a new smartphone to go with my new on order GC and want to make sure all will work correctly.

If you guys are interested I am able to test the Galaxy S4 on a UConnect 8.4an

This whole compatibility thing is BS. They need to stick to a Bluetooth standard and revision. Then you can check which Bluetooth version is on your phone and know. Software in the background is almost irrelevant (almost)

I owe somebody a thank you for pointing out that they found a way to shuffle within a folder, but I forget who. :eek:

Anyway, I was playing music from an SD card today. I was in shuffle mode and the counter showed 1600+ songs. I hit the vr button and said, "play genre country". It stayed in shuffle mode and reduced the number of songs by a third. It only played country songs in random order. It also worked for a selected artist. :cool:

The engine and transmission worked too. But the important thing is that we can decide what to shuffle. :thumbsup:

I wonder if this has anything to do with the connect update.

I'm really not impressed with UConnect. I understand its in the beginning stages but I would think they would have beta tested this software far in advance to get all these glitches out. I'm also not very happy with the non existent content currently available. Speaking of content, what's forecasted for the near future, does anyone know? Per the UConnect website I have the most current version but I feel that it is still sluggish. I've tried numerous times to get various medias to play from either SD, or USB with no such luck. Music is formatted MP3 with tag 2.3 I believe in Itunes. Not sure if the tag effects it from being able to play. Every time I put the SD card in it looks like its loading and said please wait....... And that's all it does. It does play from the Iphone via bluetooth but It only plays random songs and it doesn't give me the option to search for artists/songs. Not sure if this is just a separate case or we all have the same problem, regardless I hope they update this feature.

Lastly, I cannot get the A/C to work with the auto feature, i've searched here but didn't find a fix. Don't suppose anyone has a quick link.

I will end on a positive note, I love the damn Jeep! And I have faith that these small issues will be resolved in the near future.

Updated software & hoped it would resolve screen freezing and dropped calls but no luck. Took in today to dealer.. Radio was putting out bucket load of codes . Dealer called Chrysler and they agreed to replace the radio. Will provide an update when replacement is installed.
