Re: UConnect updates available NOW!

Well, OK, one more thing: What's up with the "halo light" in the Aux, USB, SD cubby? I never did see it on. I gauged final electrical shutdown by watching the light on the Auto setting on the terrain controls.

When does the halo light come on, why does it come on, etc....?

Mine has no light there ... or none that works.

Re: UConnect updates available NOW!

In my 2014 Overland the Halo lights around USB and SD card slots are ON with headlight rotary knob in AUTO (far left) position and not ON in with headlight switch in OFF position.

Re: UConnect updates available NOW!

Mine don't come on with the switch in auto, but I just checked and they do come on if I turn the headlights on.

Maybe I have something set that keeps them off ???

Unfortunatelly, doesn't work like that for me. Auto stays off even when I get in and hit Start. Confirmed that ac is on by opening pass side door. It switches off and stays that way the moment i open drivers side door.

RA4 with 13.10 software installed.

You are running an older version of the software, I do not know how the A/C should work with all of the different versions I have seen, some of them may be different than others.

If the HVAC Controls are set to auto after a couple of minutes of the vehicle running remote start and it has had a chance to assess temperature it will run either the A/C or Heat as needed. If the vehicle was turned off with the HVAC still in auto it "should" slow down the HVAC fan when you get in from a remote start.

This is all just theory based on what I understand about how it is supposed to work. I will go play with the one I just updated, windows down so I can tell you. I will look a little at the USB being connected to the radio as well and the light Halo. I am guessing but I would imagine that the auto position on the lights dial would not always illuminate all of the accent lighting unless the lighting conditions dictated this. I know there are some time outs for when the vehicle is in park for the rest of the lighting system so some of these lights are also reacting to the vehicle being in drive or park plus light levels (or manually engaged).

I think you are starting to see the endless variables in the system that means you would need to have the 2 trucks side by side and verify that all the settings are the same to compare what works and doesn't.... something as simple as a system being manually selected vs in auto prior to the vehicle being shut off changes the behaviour on startup. As I have said before, I think it is a good system that requires customer feedback because there are so many variables they can't write a manual to explain every possible combination nor have they been able to likely test them in any great length for every possible input and options selection but I am trying to see the trends.

For those of you ask what I do for a living this is it. On a slightly larger scale but I will work on automated control systems in homes and businesses that control TV's lighting, Audio and everything else via touch panels and iPads (and I work with some car dealers for fun and to keep it interesting). I work with various companies to systematically solve hard to find problems, now you see why I find this interesting.... Just picture a building with 56 Thermostats in over 70 rooms. Many of the systems I see are a complete fail because of lack of understanding how the customer SHOULD interface with the system. The Jeep actually has it pretty close though and I honestly believe they are going to have the best system for a long while.... we are just working out the funny bits!

I have seen some really amazing systems come together and I usually can tell they are going to be awesome even if they aren't at the get go. I honestly think this unit is on that track.

Willx, thanks for the insight, both into your "other" job as well as your passion for many things electronic. I also admire your patience in assisting "us" with the "funny bits" you mentioned!

Re: UConnect updates available NOW!

Just did the update. HD radio seems to connect easier now too, and be more stable with the signal. Before this I was dropping in and out of HD signal where I live but now it seems steady.

FYI, I did hit one hangup installing the update and it told me to remove USB drive to reset update or something like that. I removed it, plugged it back in and it just started from the beginning again. Not sure what the issue was the first time, but it seems to have worked the second time around.

If your worried about it in the instructions, I would not. If you know you don't have that version just skip to doing the update.

Update: so far this morning it hasn't been bad. I did have an issue with the navigation not wanting to get out of the point of interest area. Voice destination started working again since it started giving me little problems. Going to other menus seems a tad quicker than before. I will update later on my ride back.

I PMed you something to verify. I want to know if the condition changes from your current software to the new one when you update. It would be nice to check off an item that we know the behaviour changed.

I have now heard from a few people that have had this hang up. Seems to always work out. If anyone gets stuck here try another USB stick. those things get corrupt pretty bad when they get dropped a lot. just an FYI
