Updated: May 24 2013 @ 12:25pm EST

There were updates posted May 22nd 2013 for the 2014 Grand Cherokee containing both the 8.4A or 8.4AN UConnect systems (RA3 and RA4 model option codes). The notes below are updated as I get more information on these updates. People have used both the files I have posted, and are confirmed GOOD as well as worked with the Chrysler UConnect website, which at time of this update is running EXTREMELY poorly.

FYI the site is awfully slow, probably due to increased volume. If you get the white Bar across the screen WAIT, if you enter your VIN and click the button and nothing happens WAIT.... or do the items below as per the instructions.

Link to check: Uconnect | Support | Jeep

Here are the links for the speedy download (these are downloaded by members and re-uploaded for your ease of use) but if unsure not a bad idea to be patient and check your VIN above.

Here is the RA3
RA3_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (369.8 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!oNZCmLbJ!AiKWDH8mMR6kmoUkL7HftmrsPAZKZexh0ew2PQbd4l8

Here is the RA4:
RA4_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (370.3 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!A5UUHCBC!IJMrFgM4SsRmwLhGWLqtA2YdS5sjSf56JdIQt1n4f28

Instructions are Attached

** Confirmed update times for both versions are 9-10 min once USB is in (instructions state up to 45 must include the wait time for the UConnect site )
** It has also been noted that the Mega file downloads work much better with Google Chrome

Edit: So far the only reported issues are as follows

- If you had an "apps" button it will turn into "settings" but will turn back to "apps".
- You will MAY loose your XM Presets, some people seem to, probably relates to how old your original version is. The RA4 I did, DID NOT loose them
-This update does not include a Quadra-Lift setting for drop in park, I am not sure if this is possible but submit to Customer Service if this is something people want.

These items are confirmed good.

-NAV Presets saved are ok through upgrade.
-Phonebook is unaffected.
-Recent NAV Points are also not affected.
-Users haved noted a marked increase in Navigation speed.
-Users who were running the RAM Pickup update have had thier issues corrected.
-Bluetooth audio playback and track changes improved.
-General improvements in moving between applications

I will update this Post as Bugs and Fixes are reported.

** Please post back things you notice about these updates good and bad.

So I have had my GC for a week and I have had the screen lock up once, reset itself for no reason 3 times, and the screen go black once. I did the update today and while checking the system afterwards, it reset on me for no reason again...pretty disappointing and am wondering if it is my radio or just still glitches in the software. Anyone else had there radio reset for no reason?

There are other members here (read down a few posts) who are having a similar issue. We know this update provides for some speed and stability updates but it is not fixing the radio rebooting. There is some other problem here that likely you will need to visit the service department for but we would like to hear back what the source of the problem is. One other thing though... Did you activate the UConnect? The problem seems to be be made worse when activated. The issue you are having has definitely been documented but we would like to hear what the service department says. There are people having no problems so we don't think there is an issues with only the software.

Thought I'd mention this. After installing the update I plugged my usb thumbdrive back into my computer, and before I formatted it I opened it and there was a file on it that was written to it during the update. The file was a text file in notepad of 16.8 KB titled swdlLog. It is a software update log. Anyone else notice this?

I performed the update last night and lost all mt Sat Radio settings. The presets were gone and all my favorite tracks I marked were gone as well. Sucks I have to go through songs again to restore my favorites. Had to do this already when I reset the system from the engineer menu.

Did the update today on my 8.4AN downloaded from Chrysler with my VIN. Everything went by the instructions, updated all the modules, rebooted, radio came back on and I got the screen asking if I wanted to update 13.15.4 to 13.15.4. Said NO, pulled the thumb drive, checked FM, checked Sirius, checked NAV, checked iPhone Bluetooth. Everything looked okay, presets were still there, etc. Turned the vehicle off and went in to eat a bite of lunch. After lunch, went back out and cranked the Jeep. Sirius screen said Loading.....forever. Waited about 10 minutes, gave up. AM/FM/NAV all still working okay but no satellite screen except for Loading. Turned everything off and went in and had a glass of sweet iced tea. Later I went back up and cranked up again, punched FM and it was working, punched Sirius and it said "loading" but popped up about 10 seconds later but my Sirius presets were gone. Re-did my presets and turned the vehicle off. Went out to dinner tonight for about a 50 mile round trip drive and my presets were still there, everything seemed to be working, NAV routing working, Favorites still there, etc. Sirius still seems to be a little slow coming up when I first crank up but it comes up in a few seconds and so far my pre-sets are still there.

Have been running new software all day and most of the day was flawless.

Was 1 startup where system took about 10 seconds to fully load Sirius menu then about 3 second delay to get rear view camera to display on screen.

Other than that no issues.

Again with the halo lights.... In my 2014 JGC Limited, the cubby halo lights are on when the headlight switch is set at parking lights or full headlights; they are off when the switch is set on auto or off.

Update has been installed for about twenty-four hours, no issues yet, thankfully!

Don't know about the night time condition; I tested in the day time. My practice is to leave the headlight switch in Auto at all times. Now, when I need to have some illumination in the cubby, I'll turn on the parking lights or headlights.

Actually, the all time best way to see in the cubby is to use the flashlight from the cargo compartment! Of course, that presents problems while driving....

Not if you plan ahead.

Just use the autopilot switch next to the passenger seat eject before you climb in the back.... Don't mix those up either, don't want to see you on YouTube flying out the sunroof on the interstate.

Anyway, I think in auto it does come on at dark, at least when I was doing my A/C test with the vehicle indoors it did. Again too many variables on some items, so I am just trying to understand the intent behind the design.

Maybe the 2017 will have LO-JACK and we will just plug the back of our head into the radio and "think" more light in the cubby and it will happen..... Or the rear hatch will open as we are driving down the highway. Haha.... I didn't get much sleep last night :(

Just installed the update. Seems Chrysler's servers are doing better; the update downloaded fairly quickly. Everything went very smoothly. Did not even lose the XM presets.

Installed update smoothly. Still have radio and XM presets.

Two issues not addressed:

1. Screen still does not revert back to previous state after an incoming phone call is terminated.
2. In "media", shuffle mode still not possible within a folder. If you hit "shuffle" within a folder, it shuffles the entire contents of the USB or SD card.

I had mine freeze yesterday after completing a call, had to shut the car off for a few minutes to get it to come back. Then again last night it did it again on the radio area. I did have the nav going both times this happened. I was still able to use the buttons on steering wheel to change stations.

Yes my radio is activated. I did not see the any of the new apps. I will see I'd it does it again and if it does, maybe I will redo the update to see if that does anything.

Well I am befuddled... some people have seen huge improvements some people no real change and some people it is worse... if I wrote that software I think I would fall on my sword right about now.

I still don't get why the huge range of different symptoms.... I am sorry and I don't even know what I am apologizing for. I still stand by my original comment that I believe this is a really good system overall but clearly there is still some issues and some of those problems may be hardware based? Oh well let us please keep up the conversation and see where it takes us.... I would love to hear some of the service department experiences and I will read the Star Cases tomorrow.

I think your shock at the variety in outcomes is similar to what mine could be. This isn't a Windows/Mac/Linux type of development issue, there are only a small number of 2014 systems... If I own a company that controls the hardware and software (and the hardware has a very small number of official variations, as a 2014 would have), I would expect a software update to work rather seamlessly unless the hardware had a high degree of imperfections...

Of course, we can't assume several problems on a die hard forum mean systemic failure. With that said, I haven't applied the update yet, and will hold off due to statements made on this forum, as I trust diehard opinions over other opinions unless I have a reason to :).

I caveat this with my 14 working great outside of some software glitches.

Updated the software from 13.10 to the new software this weekend. I previously posted that it went smoothly, but I didn't notice much difference. I've been out all morning running errands and playing with the Uconnect. Some things I've noticed: Overall speed of interface has become quicker across all functions. Voice response system is working better, with better functionality. Some commands that took a small phrase before now complete with one word (this didn't work before update, because I tried, but also might be system learning my usage). I went out of my way to confuse the system, and couldn't do it. I would have a Nav guidance programed and running, change the audio input from radio to media, call up weather map in travel link, and choose an artist, all very quickly with the VR, and all went as commanded. I'm impressed with this system. No drop-outs or blank screens, no freeze-ups. Earlier there was discussion on shuffle play from folders, and it was pointed out that the whole card or thumbdrive would be included in the shuffle. Today, while I had all of the above going on, I gave a command to "play artist, Beatles". I noticed the song count to be around 100, far less than the total on my sd card. It included all the Beatles songs on the card, and when I tapped the shuffle softkey, only the Beatles music played in the random shuffle from several albums. I'll play with this more when I get a chance to see what else it will do. I'm still problem free, except for phonebook update problem. If I call one of the numbers that won't transfer to the Uconnect phonebook by dialing from my phone, the call still goes through the hands-free speaker Uconnect phone. I have to think, as Will does, that at least some of the problems people are having are hardware related. I think gremlin ground problems could be an issue. I've gone over every wire connection I can find, that looks like a ground, and checked for tightness. I've found nothing loose. All I can say is that those who are having problems should keep at Chrysler and Jeep to find a fix. I can tell you that when everything is working as advertised, it's an amazing vehicle. (Of course I'll qualify all of this with a loud "Knock on Wood").

It sounds like you are a master at voice commands, can you please start a new thread with some tips and tricks and the most used commands? I was driving my VP last week on customer calls, and she asked me to use some verbal commands and I looked like an idiot trying to use the system. I have a 2014 JGC.

Updated mine from 13.5.3 earlier this morning and it took about 20 minutes. First attempt failed at 89% installing the Unit 10 module. Asked me to remove the USB drive to reset it and once I did that it asked me to reinsert it to perform the update. Started the process all over, but it went through the process without a hitch the 2nd time. haven't played with it much, but directly after the update was installed, the Apps soft key changed to settings. Couldn't actually get to the apps, but I had to get back in my office to do some work. Went out at lunch and it had changed back to Apps and functions so far as it should. Again, though, I haven't really played with it much, but probably will on the way home. All in all....a pretty easy process.

Not always. Often a star bulletin is updated with new information as a car is produced. They cannot simply stop the line and wait for a know software update or part change so..... they will often note affected VINs but because a problem was identified it does not mean it is on the car immediately.

On the other hand if it is a process error such as the torque a ground is tightened to, those items are usually immediately corrected.

 Just to update. I did the 13.15.4 install on 5/25. After the install I had lost all sirius presets and favorites. Today (5/28) they all re-appeared along with one episode of loss of audio for a few seconds which was and apparently still is an intermittent problem. I do not get a message from sirius that this is a loss of sat signal.

Just upgraded from 13.05.3 to the latest. Failed at "unit 10" which was the Sierra wireless card. Followed instructions to redo and second time was successful. One thing I noticed was in the instruction screen shots it references " MASTER SW" but on my screen is was "APP SW." Anyone else notice that? So far so good. Didn't lose any presets and so far it's noticeably faster.
