Updated: May 24 2013 @ 12:25pm EST

There were updates posted May 22nd 2013 for the 2014 Grand Cherokee containing both the 8.4A or 8.4AN UConnect systems (RA3 and RA4 model option codes). The notes below are updated as I get more information on these updates. People have used both the files I have posted, and are confirmed GOOD as well as worked with the Chrysler UConnect website, which at time of this update is running EXTREMELY poorly.

FYI the site is awfully slow, probably due to increased volume. If you get the white Bar across the screen WAIT, if you enter your VIN and click the button and nothing happens WAIT.... or do the items below as per the instructions.

Link to check: Uconnect | Support | Jeep

Here are the links for the speedy download (these are downloaded by members and re-uploaded for your ease of use) but if unsure not a bad idea to be patient and check your VIN above.

Here is the RA3
RA3_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (369.8 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!oNZCmLbJ!AiKWDH8mMR6kmoUkL7HftmrsPAZKZexh0ew2PQbd4l8

Here is the RA4:
RA4_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (370.3 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!A5UUHCBC!IJMrFgM4SsRmwLhGWLqtA2YdS5sjSf56JdIQt1n4f28

Instructions are Attached

** Confirmed update times for both versions are 9-10 min once USB is in (instructions state up to 45 must include the wait time for the UConnect site )
** It has also been noted that the Mega file downloads work much better with Google Chrome

Edit: So far the only reported issues are as follows

- If you had an "apps" button it will turn into "settings" but will turn back to "apps".
- You will MAY loose your XM Presets, some people seem to, probably relates to how old your original version is. The RA4 I did, DID NOT loose them
-This update does not include a Quadra-Lift setting for drop in park, I am not sure if this is possible but submit to Customer Service if this is something people want.

These items are confirmed good.

-NAV Presets saved are ok through upgrade.
-Phonebook is unaffected.
-Recent NAV Points are also not affected.
-Users haved noted a marked increase in Navigation speed.
-Users who were running the RAM Pickup update have had thier issues corrected.
-Bluetooth audio playback and track changes improved.
-General improvements in moving between applications

I will update this Post as Bugs and Fixes are reported.

** Please post back things you notice about these updates good and bad.

Nice Little Step Backwards

I performed the update without a hitch. I was in the vehicle a lot yesterday and noticed the unit no longer reads my music SD card properly. I have a card with 9 playlists and 9 associated folders. 1964 songs in all. Every time I get in the vehicle now, the system reads an incorrect number of songs and some of the playlists are missing. I have to eject and re-insert the SD card a few times in order for it to correctly read/load the card. This worked flawlessly prior to the update.

Anyone know if it's possible to re-load/revery back to the previous version?

For those who are having trouble giving voice commands, are you pushing and letting go of the VR button right away? Try using a quick tap. Then wait for the beep, and then say your command. If you're doing this and it's not working, you might need a trip to dealer service.

As far as SD card problems, I have thousands of songs in several folders, and it's working fine after the update. I believe it was Sno or maybe Bill who recommended locking the card. I have mine locked, but didn't have problems when it was unlocked.

And tipman, I'm sure my Jeep knows it's smarter than I am, but I think they look at us as friendly furry little pets, and will humor us. ;)

Today my voice recognition started a new trick. It works fine for media. When I say, go home, which has always worked, it either says to add a phone or cannot understand. I used the touch screen.

Once I got to a main road I said "cancel guidance". Instead of asking me if I was sure, she responded "canceled" right away. The only problem, she never shut up. The route guidance continued until I canceled it through the screen.

Gotta love it.... go to the dealer and say that I need to get the 13.15.4 update for my 2014 Jeep GC. After 3 1/2 hours, they come out to tell me there is no such update available to them.... sigh.

Told they will "research" it.
Why did you go to the dealer to do it?

The update takes about 10 minutes...... You waited 3 1/2 hours and they didn't even do the update ? My salesman was telling me a lot of the techs haven't even been trained on this Uconnect system..... Sounds like that's true for your dealership

The update comes straight from Chryslers website so no problem with your dealer there. Go for it

I asked my dealer about map updates and they stated "It does it automatically" rofl?

So yes going to the dealership is only last resort for me, always has been.
I would say reasonably that due to the advanced nature of the system and future capabilities that making it a user update friendly platform was very important. If an update does not go as planned than if the product is under warranty see the manufacturers repair centre. It is a pretty universal idea from the tablet world which is really what this is.

They have even idiot proofed it to the point if the load fails you can easily try again. Dealer Connect programming that fails often means a need for replacement components so clearly they have designed this for the user. I would think simple patches might be downloadable directly to the system at some point or "automatic" but obviously they need to share more with the dealers.

As for the instructions I was more referring to the detailed instructions say you can take it to a service centre. You would think they received some communication on this as they would have customers coming in and saying "I tried to update my Jeep by Chrysler's instructions and it bricked"

dealer response: you what with pardon from who?

 actually it is sad.

Just updated mine from 13.10.0 to 13.15.4 and it took 7 mins and 36 seconds from the time started to the verification completed. Didn't get to test much but I didn't lose any presets in the FM or SXM. The system is definitely quicker especially on the navigation inputs but I tested inputting one address and it is better but still very slow to put in a street name. My 2005 Jeep system was 50X faster than this. I am thinking they have a bug in how they are pulling the street data when you start typing in the name. Will report back after I have some more use with the new version.

Performed the update this past Sunday and had my first ever glitch this morning.

A/C on and listening to an HD-FM station I received a pop-up on my screen stating something along the lines of 'that function requires a uconnect subscription. Please go to the uconnect store and update your subscription'. There was no ill affect on the a/c nor radio everything kept functioning as normal. I simply hit the cancel option.
Although it happened twice. I'll get a pic of it if it happens again. Btw it's an 8.4AN

I updated mine yesterday and had that same message pop up this morning on the way to work.

Willx,

I just used your file to update my 8.4AN. I had 13.05.3 installed and the update went exceptionally well.

I tested a few things afterwards, just sitting in the car. The voice commands seemed to work better. After 10 minutes, it appears that I lost the SirusXM presets but not the FM presets. I will wait awhile to see if they magically reappear. My Nav favorites are intact and my Nav settings remained as I had them. My SD card took a while to initialize but then began working well.

I tried three times, each time waiting at least an hour, to get a response from the Jeep site after entering my VIN number. I even tried at 2am ESDT. No luck. Worse web link I have ever used.

So - THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Had it not been for you, I don't believe I could have updated my system for months.

Thanks again, Tom

Willx,

I updated 2 days ago. Today I got the message that everyone was talking about. I was busy at the time and cancelled it. Then I had a couple things happen that haven't happen to me before. While talking my phone (iPhone 4S) using bluetooth, the screen turned off and restarted. My phone call was there when it came back on. About 5 mins later while listening to FM HD radio, the screen went blank but the radio was still on. I shut down and waited for the car to de-power and started it up again. Still blank. I am hoping that it comes back on next time i try.

I updated my 8.4AN yesterday and it went fine (from the link in this thread). I also got that subscription error yesterday but I ignored it as everything is working fine.

Today, the XM station lowered the volume to allow the system to warn me about being over the speed limit (common), but it stayed that way for a solid 30 second and never said anything. It then raised the volume to normal levels. I don't like how it sometimes warns me and takes about 1 second to start talking and other times it takes about 10 seconds before it warns me (meaning that the volume is lowered for 10 seconds before she starts talking). oh well.

Nav and other systems seem faster to the touch (but not always).
All of my settings were preserved.

I got the subscription message as well this morning.

I've also lost the ability to use USB, sd card and bluetooth audio. Did the update last weekend, everything worked great for a day or so, now not so much. I've been unable to bring the functionality back with multiple different attempts. Next step is to re-flash the update to see if that works.
