Updated: May 24 2013 @ 12:25pm EST

There were updates posted May 22nd 2013 for the 2014 Grand Cherokee containing both the 8.4A or 8.4AN UConnect systems (RA3 and RA4 model option codes). The notes below are updated as I get more information on these updates. People have used both the files I have posted, and are confirmed GOOD as well as worked with the Chrysler UConnect website, which at time of this update is running EXTREMELY poorly.

FYI the site is awfully slow, probably due to increased volume. If you get the white Bar across the screen WAIT, if you enter your VIN and click the button and nothing happens WAIT.... or do the items below as per the instructions.

Link to check: Uconnect | Support | Jeep

Here are the links for the speedy download (these are downloaded by members and re-uploaded for your ease of use) but if unsure not a bad idea to be patient and check your VIN above.

Here is the RA3
RA3_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (369.8 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!oNZCmLbJ!AiKWDH8mMR6kmoUkL7HftmrsPAZKZexh0ew2PQbd4l8

Here is the RA4:
RA4_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (370.3 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!A5UUHCBC!IJMrFgM4SsRmwLhGWLqtA2YdS5sjSf56JdIQt1n4f28

Instructions are Attached

** Confirmed update times for both versions are 9-10 min once USB is in (instructions state up to 45 must include the wait time for the UConnect site )
** It has also been noted that the Mega file downloads work much better with Google Chrome

Edit: So far the only reported issues are as follows

- If you had an "apps" button it will turn into "settings" but will turn back to "apps".
- You will MAY loose your XM Presets, some people seem to, probably relates to how old your original version is. The RA4 I did, DID NOT loose them
-This update does not include a Quadra-Lift setting for drop in park, I am not sure if this is possible but submit to Customer Service if this is something people want.

These items are confirmed good.

-NAV Presets saved are ok through upgrade.
-Phonebook is unaffected.
-Recent NAV Points are also not affected.
-Users haved noted a marked increase in Navigation speed.
-Users who were running the RAM Pickup update have had thier issues corrected.
-Bluetooth audio playback and track changes improved.
-General improvements in moving between applications

I will update this Post as Bugs and Fixes are reported.

** Please post back things you notice about these updates good and bad.

I got the message twice this morning, once on the way to the store and once on the way back. So, the car was shut down for about 15 minutes in between.

On the plus side, on the way home I pressed the VR button and said, "go home". It worked the way it was supposed to.

If it wasn't for the message popping up I would have had a trip with no surprises. How boring would that be.

This is not related to the update... this is something that is expected to happen. The "apps" are changing and upgrading in the background on connected systems (not entirely true but the simplest way to explain it).

I will cost an article about this screen in a bit.

Great news, thanks for the feedback Willx!

I thought we got this stuff for 1yr? I keep getting that everyone I am in the car.

It isn't even available yet to my knowledge (even says it isn't active in the update). I think they are playing.... but honestly I don't know. But as this is happening remotely I would say it explains much about the weird reboots and stuff. Not sure if the systems are updating apps or what is going on.... again I cannot "activate" so I will live vicariously through you all!

Or convince Marlon to send Me an EcoDiesel and I will happily dedicate a half day per week to testing ;)

Uconnect will be $19+ per month but the wireless hot spot is an additional $9+ a day etc...

Also, even though I purchased 1 month of Hotspot wireless (to test it - won't be keeping it as it is only 3G - geez), it still gave me the option to purchase it on the Uconnect screen as if I didn't already own it. Bad programming.

What's worse is that the apps aren't even native! It uses Pandora and the like off of your phone as it is. I could "maybe" see if Pandora worked independently on the unit, but drawing everything useful from my phone when I can connect via Bluetooh or USB anyhow seems useless.

X2!! Seems that these music apps will be nothing more than a user interface with the touch screen? So why is it taking so long to get them active?:sleepy:

What's sad is that OnStar offers more for the same price. Pretty sorry subscription service attempt by UConnect. Nothing exceptionally attractive to me that would make me want to get it. Unless if you don't get a subscription the whole unit just crashes constantly and likes to do random things...oh, wait.

Actually, the uconnect service offers almost the exact same service as the Onstar "safe and sound" plan. Onstar is 18.95 and the only thing that its base plan has that uconnect doesn't is the monthly vehicle diagnostic emails. Below is a complete list of what the uconnect service offers. You can see it anytime by signing onto your moparownerconnect.com account and doing a little research.

  • Advantage Package (Included Trial)
  • Advantage package is for the driver who wants to stay connected to their vehicle and the world around them. To learn more please visit

    • Remote Door Unlock Now you can unlock your vehicle from virtually anywhere with your computer or smartphone with the Uconnect Access app.
    • Remote Vehicle Start Use a computer or the Uconnect Access smartphone app to start your engine and warm up or cool down your vehicle before you get in.
    • Care Assist Call Just press the ASSIST button and select Uconnect Care to get help with Uconnect Access registration, apps and remote services; or select Vehicle Care for help with other parts of your radio and other vehicle features.
    • Voice Texting Powerful, cloud-based voice recognition allows you to dictate free form text messages, and send them from your compatible phone without taking your hands of the wheel or focus from the road.
    • Cancel Remote Start After starting your engine remotely, you can choose to turn it off and cancel the Remote Vehicle Start.
    • 9-1-1 Call Report an accident without taking your eyes off the road. Just press the 9-1-1 button on your rear view mirror to get connected with local authorities.
    • Bing Whatever you’re looking for, Bing® can find it and help you get there. Bing®. The decision engine from Microsoft®.
    • Roadside Assistance Call If you get a flat tire, or need a tow, just press the ASSIST button and you’ll be connected to someone who can help. Roadside Assistance will know what vehicle you’re driving and its location. Additional fees may apply for Roadside Assistance.
    • Stolen Vehicle Assistance If your vehicle is ever stolen, Uconnect (with your permission) can provide your vehicle location to police to help them track it down.

One thing I liked about OnStar was the built in phone. You bought prepaid minutes.

The original OnStar also had a concierge service included with the $400/year package. You could press the blue button and order hard to get tickets for Broadway Shows, ball games, concerts etc. When traveling they would locate restaurants for you and even read the menu until you found one you liked. Then they would make reservations for you.

After a couple of years the price jumped to $800, so I had to start buying my own tickets.

OnStar also offers Automatic Crash Response. So, it does offer a couple more services (bringing my previous post to being valid), but is also a more reliable system. Whereas we are reading all the problems with the UConnect software and other issues throughout this thread, bringing into question the reliability of it for a price that is not yet justified until they can iron out their issues. I'm not a spokesman for OnStar by any means, just not sold yet on UConnect.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend uconnect but your saying that if uconnect included automatic crach response, it would then be worth it? Also, remember that Onstar was installed in GM cars since 1995 and uconnect just started this year in the Jeep and RAM. Just trying to put it into perspective. I dont think either one is worth the cost for what they provide. Geez, now I sound like a spokesperson for uconnect.....

Sorry, I just happen to love my Jeep and sometimes get annoyed when I come on here and here people complain about how crappy it is. That's what happens when you are an early adopter of technology....

Yeah but who wants another cell phone? Most people have one with them at all times now-a-days. It's actually kinda sad if ya think about it.... anyways, they still have their concierge service. It's in a higher plan that is 28.95 a month.
I didn't see it in that package.

I searched for concierge and came up with a link that said $49.95/month, but when you click on the link that package isn't there.

What gets me is our one year free starts before full functionality is released... It shouldn't start until UConnect is fully operational. I tried to lock my jeep though my phone the last two days and was told my session had expired so no-can-do, with no option to refresh my session. I would not pay twenty bucks a month for the privilege of randomly sometimes controlling my car and using apps that tie into my phone and use up the bandwidth I payed for via my phone company - that 'privilege' should be free...

Overall, I love my Jeep, but the UConnect service is dismall at this point. Luckily in the US, 911 has to work whether you pay for uConnect or not...

From what I gather on the freezing.... I would suggest waiting to see if it recovers for a whole before restarting the vehicle. If apps are updating in the background it might be better to see if they can finish what they are doing.

I performed the update last night, twice. On the first attempt I had the SIERRA BOLO (Air Card failure - component 10 of 12) but I followed the online prompts and everything updated fine on the second attempt.

For a few seconds I was able to see Pandora, IHeart Radio and one other app in that section after which it automatically switched to Uconnect Store. I played arround in there and it appears that the radio recognized my Uconnect Advantage Package as Purchased (the button was grayed out). Under My Apps, I had 2 (two) U Advantage Package icons.

I did lose my Sirius XM radio presets but nothing else. The memory card of which I lamented in another thread started working on its own. There seems to be a glitch with the XM radio or maybe with the touch screen - the buttons as setting up the radio presets again , clicking and holding the preset station would not always adopt my selected channel and it would revert back on its own to whatever channel it had after the re-flash. In similar fashion, the ">/<" forward and/or back arrows for the SXM radio presets (7-12 / or/ 1-6) would not always work. Nothing else was noted - except that the GPS appeared very accurate. I did not observe any speed improvements in either screen touch response or operation.

I updated from 13.10.00 and this revision had been allegedly installed by the dealer on Wednesday. Prior to that I had 13.08.xx but I am not 100% sure - I have to go with what the dealer said.

I got that message several times yesterday, but it seems to be gone today. Progress?

I did have to reset "show turns in cluster" this morning.

Jeep is going to have to come up with a checklist like pilots use.

It's been noted that the message is not a function of the update. There's a lot going on with Uconnect right now. I think we have to be patient, and let the powers that be get it all sorted out. The joys of being an early adopter. So far I've been pretty happy with the system. I'm sure there's room for improvement. Being user upgradeable will save trips to the dealer. Being a bit of a tech wonk, I like the ability to do updates myself. I think Jeep should let us subscribe to an email notification service alerting us of new software versions. And maybe they should invest in a little more robust server to pass those updates to users.

In addition, they could send out emails when they are "tweaking" their system to let people know that there may be some strange behavior, and not to worry about it. Leaving the customers in the dark is bad business.
