Updated: May 24 2013 @ 12:25pm EST

There were updates posted May 22nd 2013 for the 2014 Grand Cherokee containing both the 8.4A or 8.4AN UConnect systems (RA3 and RA4 model option codes). The notes below are updated as I get more information on these updates. People have used both the files I have posted, and are confirmed GOOD as well as worked with the Chrysler UConnect website, which at time of this update is running EXTREMELY poorly.

FYI the site is awfully slow, probably due to increased volume. If you get the white Bar across the screen WAIT, if you enter your VIN and click the button and nothing happens WAIT.... or do the items below as per the instructions.

Link to check: Uconnect | Support | Jeep

Here are the links for the speedy download (these are downloaded by members and re-uploaded for your ease of use) but if unsure not a bad idea to be patient and check your VIN above.

Here is the RA3
RA3_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (369.8 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!oNZCmLbJ!AiKWDH8mMR6kmoUkL7HftmrsPAZKZexh0ew2PQbd4l8

Here is the RA4:
RA4_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (370.3 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!A5UUHCBC!IJMrFgM4SsRmwLhGWLqtA2YdS5sjSf56JdIQt1n4f28

Instructions are Attached

** Confirmed update times for both versions are 9-10 min once USB is in (instructions state up to 45 must include the wait time for the UConnect site )
** It has also been noted that the Mega file downloads work much better with Google Chrome

Edit: So far the only reported issues are as follows

- If you had an "apps" button it will turn into "settings" but will turn back to "apps".
- You will MAY loose your XM Presets, some people seem to, probably relates to how old your original version is. The RA4 I did, DID NOT loose them
-This update does not include a Quadra-Lift setting for drop in park, I am not sure if this is possible but submit to Customer Service if this is something people want.

These items are confirmed good.

-NAV Presets saved are ok through upgrade.
-Phonebook is unaffected.
-Recent NAV Points are also not affected.
-Users haved noted a marked increase in Navigation speed.
-Users who were running the RAM Pickup update have had thier issues corrected.
-Bluetooth audio playback and track changes improved.
-General improvements in moving between applications

I will update this Post as Bugs and Fixes are reported.

** Please post back things you notice about these updates good and bad.

The pairing issues with certain hardware and Bluetooth audio playback appear to be improve with the latest version. Users having issues with this after the upgrade may have a hardware issue.

The "storm" of UConnect app background "shuffle" seems to have calmed down down but users who activate today MAY see some haywire stuff on their radios for a few days post, so just be aware.

Good concept on the Multi fob question for radio presets flipping back and forth. It is possible that is somehow related so people might want to be mindful if they are in the vehicle with Multi-fobs and whether this has any impact at all (or the "near by" fobs while at home)

Also yes to confirm, you always run the update to your hardware model. The updates are essentially the same, just off by a few KB to account for the slightly different configuration from the factory. It doesn't matter if you have activated your Nav or not.

At this point I haven't seen any real advantage. But my guess is the update might be necessary for the apps to work properly when released. You wouldn't want to release the apps into software that won't properly support them. Basically getting the foundation secure before adding on.

This is the email I got back from the service department about my BT issues. I thought they were going to replace the radio, but that doesn't look as promising now...

"Good Morning mzimm88,
I needed to wait until this morning to speak with the technician that was working with your vehicle. He has a technical assistance case open, but they have not authorized the replacement of the radio yet.
They did state that your new phone is not compatible at this time, but there is a fault code in the radio that we would like to remove and see if the blue tooth functions return. I will keep you informed as soon as we receive the information from technical assistance..
Thanks"

Not a good sign if my phone isn't compatible (AT&T Galaxy Note 2)....

I am not going to write what I was actually going to say about that answer. Let me think about the before say anything.

That is wrong though. I am running the same OS as that phone.

So today while driving I received an email (definitely not a text message) on my BT connected iPhone 5 - the RA4 notified and read it as a text message. To my recollection, it didn't read emails aloud before the update - anyone else experiencing this? (Coincidentally, the email I received was a notification of a new post in this thread. I'm viewing this as proof of the existence of parallel universes that randomly intersect.)

Willx, do you know if there is something wrong with the new radios? I am just wondering what will be different with a new radio than the one that my Jeep was built with on 4/10/13. Has there been an issue that has been addressed?

#455 ·
Just to let you know, my Jeep was built on 4/6/13 at 9 a.m. and I'm not having any problems with Uconnect.

I probably won't get it back until Friday to test it out as they are waiting for some additional parts to fix some other issues as well as this but will update this thread once I do. I will keep driving the Dodge Grand Caravan loaner until then....

Well, I switched my phone back to my old Samsung Captivate to see if it really was a "compatibility issue," and I am having the exact same BT problems I had with my Galaxy Note 2. I told the dealer that, but they are saying that Chrysler has to authorize the replacement of the radio...

So, we'll see what they say later today.

I am familiar with the CDJ warranty approval process but they shouldn't mix that in with your phone issues. The radio doesn't work as designed, despite what they are suggesting Android has certain commonalities in how it talks with Bluetooth. As long as it is a more current phone (yours is one of the newest), there really should be no problem. If it pairs and it says it can play it pretty well means it should work.

I know I posted somewhere else here about my Chevy Equinox problem. I would use that theory, test it in another vehicle on the lot is always a good trick. Works there should work in yours the same!

Todays update;

Tailgate is back to needing 4 clicks, whether the Jeep is locked or open. This is silly, but doesn't really matter.

When I switched to sand mode going on the beach, I still had to raise to ORI by pressing the button. :(

But when I went back in to sand mode to leave, the Jeep stayed in ORI. The last few times it lowered itself. :)

Oh yeah, on my way to the beach, cruising at 55 in eco mode and the suspension in aero mode ... got the suspension is cooling flash on the screen. It didn't stay on, and the car raised to normal mode as I slowed into the parking lot.

The worst thing ... no fish AGAIN

Just to clarify a few things about uConnect access and registering etc... The trial starts when the car is sold not when you activate according to care. I am part of a pilot program called FastTrack where they will release Beta software for me to test ie: via mobile, yelp, etc... The guy I speak to at uConnect is an engineer and that was his stance on the one year trial. Not sure how accurate he is just thought I'd share it with the forum.

Took my vehicle in for the system locking up and freezing. Dealer could not replicate but I had taken several videos of it resetting. They talked to stars and were advised to order a new unit. Lets hope thus helps, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Still wish the remote start would turn the ac on. Told me system is not supposed to.

Well, I am at a loss with this BT issue. Chrysler will not replace my radio unless I can reproduce the issue on one of the compatible phones (there's only like 10 of these found here Uconnect™ | Select your Vehicle). I can borrow one of those phones but it also has to be same version they list as compatible and I can't find the right combination. This sucks.

Word to the wise, if anyone has BT issues and are taking it in to the dealer, just say you use one of the compatible phones. The dealer never checked what phone I actually had and I would have a new radio if I just said I used one of those phones.

EDIT: Well, I was able to track down an iPhone 4 that was listed as compatible and I could not reproduce the issue, but I couldn't spend that much time trying. I really want to try it with one of their compatible Android phones, but I can't find any of those with the right carrier/version combo.

My phone works in mine, but the first time I logged into their website, I blew a fuse. A car released in 2013 should work in all phones from current Bluetooth backwards for calling functionality, no excuses. I get a small number of phones have glitchy BT, but for them to sit and say that only a limited number of phones work is BS...

My iPhone 5 with latest iOS is working fine, never had any issue with it

Update: From spending some time buggering around with some Bluetooth in other cars the last week, I found a work around that may help some people. This is not a fix but for my friend posting with the note 2 sync problem try this....

-Delete your pairing from both devices.

-Pair your device again BUT.... DO NOT allow it to access your address book. Completely ignore or deny the phone book access question.

-I am full well aware this makes it a real pain to voice call people etc but please try this and see if this makes the audio play and call clarity better.

I am Driving a Brand New 2013 Equinox at the moment with less than 2000 miles on it and this is the only way it works for me. Before you call me names for the Equinox thing.... it is a company car and I had an identical 2013 a few months back and it did not have this issue. Only problem is they changed the radio hardware ( definitely not my phone and I proved that).

Anyway just further advise to play with. As if everything works fine without the phone book sync it helps move the problem to at least something more specific.

Just an update on what I've been doing on my end to solve the BT issue. Yesterday, the dealer told me they were still unable to get Chrysler to authorize a radio replacement and said that the next step is for me to call Chrysler Customer Relations and complain.

So, I had a very spirited conversation with a woman from Chrysler, who kept feeding me the same phone is incompatible BS. This conversation eventually resulted in me convincing her to call the Service Director at the dealer (who was at home and gave me his cell number to get things moving). She spent about 15 minutes talking to him and got back on the phone to me and begrudgingly told me she would assign a case manager to me and I would hear more tomorrow.

Middle of the day today, dealer calls me and asks for my SiriusXM ID number. I gave it to him and assumed something was moving. Well, he just called me and said they were able to get a new radio authorized and he isn't sure when it will arrive, but will let me know and then we can install.

Hopefully, this does it!

If you don't mind trying the other little phone book test that would be great.... this way we can identify I common issue. There are people who described iPhone sync issues as well.
I told it not to sync messages or contacts to start with and on my drive home I did not experience the disconnect/reconnect issue. I want to give it another drive to work to be sure that the problem doesn't present itself.

What I found odd is that my contacts were still listed in Uconnect even though I told it not to access them. If I don't get the issue on my drive to work tomorrow, I am going to turn the messaging function back on and see if I am still problem free. Either way, I plan on having my radio replaced, but I will update more tomorrow.

Took my new 2014 JGC into the shop today because the screen froze. They said that it needed to be updated. They updated it with a 13.10.0 update and said that was what it needed. I lost my uconnect button which now says settings. Cannot find the uconnect anywhere. I lost everything under the uconnect button like xm weather, bing, etc. I called back and he said they might be hidden in a folder? Still can't find it. Said he had to read about it and call me back. Anyone else have this issue?

It was common for the apps button to change to setting. Eventually, within a day, mine came back. As for the other buttons, that's new to me.

You didn't mention what radio you have. For the 8.4an, the latest update IIRC is 13.15.04.
