Updated: May 24 2013 @ 12:25pm EST

There were updates posted May 22nd 2013 for the 2014 Grand Cherokee containing both the 8.4A or 8.4AN UConnect systems (RA3 and RA4 model option codes). The notes below are updated as I get more information on these updates. People have used both the files I have posted, and are confirmed GOOD as well as worked with the Chrysler UConnect website, which at time of this update is running EXTREMELY poorly.

FYI the site is awfully slow, probably due to increased volume. If you get the white Bar across the screen WAIT, if you enter your VIN and click the button and nothing happens WAIT.... or do the items below as per the instructions.

Link to check: Uconnect | Support | Jeep

Here are the links for the speedy download (these are downloaded by members and re-uploaded for your ease of use) but if unsure not a bad idea to be patient and check your VIN above.

Here is the RA3
RA3_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (369.8 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!oNZCmLbJ!AiKWDH8mMR6kmoUkL7HftmrsPAZKZexh0ew2PQbd4l8

Here is the RA4:
RA4_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (370.3 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!A5UUHCBC!IJMrFgM4SsRmwLhGWLqtA2YdS5sjSf56JdIQt1n4f28

Instructions are Attached

** Confirmed update times for both versions are 9-10 min once USB is in (instructions state up to 45 must include the wait time for the UConnect site )
** It has also been noted that the Mega file downloads work much better with Google Chrome

Edit: So far the only reported issues are as follows

- If you had an "apps" button it will turn into "settings" but will turn back to "apps".
- You will MAY loose your XM Presets, some people seem to, probably relates to how old your original version is. The RA4 I did, DID NOT loose them
-This update does not include a Quadra-Lift setting for drop in park, I am not sure if this is possible but submit to Customer Service if this is something people want.

These items are confirmed good.

-NAV Presets saved are ok through upgrade.
-Phonebook is unaffected.
-Recent NAV Points are also not affected.
-Users haved noted a marked increase in Navigation speed.
-Users who were running the RAM Pickup update have had thier issues corrected.
-Bluetooth audio playback and track changes improved.
-General improvements in moving between applications

I will update this Post as Bugs and Fixes are reported.

** Please post back things you notice about these updates good and bad.

Phew. Just got it to finish downloading. Install is under way. The install completed. Now it seems like the screen is flickering, like it is refreshing at a slower frequency. Hmmm...Maybe it will go away after it sits for a bit.
OK, first we have heard that now. I am going to go update one shortly here but please let us know if that improves. It would be the first negative experience with the update.

I am hoping this incident is isolated to me. I downloaded and installed RA4 update last night and everything went smoothly. I was driving to work this morning and I got the Vehicle Phone Requires Service screen. As far as I could tell, everything was functioning normally before and after the message.

I installed the file Willx uploaded for the RA4 and it worked just fine. Response of the screen is much better, it feels like there is less "lag" after pushing an icon. Haven't got to navigate anywhere yet.

However this update did NOT fix my problem with my phone book not fully downloading. Still only get A-R in my contacts. I deleted/reconnected the phone and still no go.

Are you using an iPhone 5 running the latest IOS. I have seen this before but we don't know if it is a corrupt address entry or an iPhone issue (some iphones appear to have this issue). I have not seen this problem on an Android device yet.

If I could ever get the damn Chrysler site to come up, I could check to see if I need the update.....or I could get off my ass and just walk out to the Jeep and check.

If so, I'll use Willx's RA3 file and go from there. I don't really notice anything being off, but I like to tinker so might as well update if it needs it. Don't have a flash drive with me at the moment, though, so it'll have to wait until this evening.

Ran the update on my test vehicle. Very easy, there is a small delay as to when you put the USB key in to when the update verification happens.

The entire update process on an RA4 took 9 Minutes. I used the RA4 file I posted in the 1st post.

-Fixed the clock time (noticed this afterwards)
-definitely more responsive moving between screens
-Bluetooth audio is more responsive (song changes using steering wheel controls quicker)
-I did not see cover art working BUT I think my last Google Play Music update killed my cover art on my RAZR HD so I will try some other phones and post back on that.

Photos of the 3 major stages you see are below. ** Make sure you leave the stick in until the verification screen comes up again.

As a side note, I have done a very similar update on a 2013 Cadillac SRX via an SD Card.... It took nearly an hour and did not have the good feedback of the process such as the upgrade screens you see below.

I am REALLY impressed with how easy this was and how little time it took. The update Process for this UConnect is more user friendly than most of the devices I have worked with. Considering the total size of the update is about 1/2 gig once uncompressed, this works AMAZING.

Now if they can only fix the UConnect Website.... wishful thinking! :banghead:

So you have a non-NAV unit, correct? I'm getting confused about which radio I actually have. RA3 or RA4? I don't have NAV in mine and it looks to be exactly like the pics you posted.

edit: Okay, I'm blind....I do see your NAV icon down there now. So the difference between the 2 is NAV, then?

#68 ·
I seen that message come up once on an older firmware version so it MAY be a radio problem. I can't see it being with the update IF the update complete successfully. It did say in the instructions to bring it in if that came up but who knows might have been a temporary glitch, especially since it didn't come back

I am pretty new here...just picked up my Overland with Advanced tech on Tuesday...so far loving it...My current software is 13.5.4 is that the latest? I am thinking this one is newer, but I tried to update and did not have any luck. I downloaded the file and put on the thumb drive. I followed all the directions but when I plug the thumb drive in nothing happens...I mean it lights up, but the unconnect system doesn't do anything at all....Any suggesstions?>

The zip file must be extracted first and ONLY the iso file put on the flash drive. No other data is permitted on the flash drive. Even if you run the same version it will ask you if you want to update, but if the numbers match say no. Does your Radio have Nav? Option Packages vary globally so it is a matter of verifying if you have Nav. If you have Navigation use RA4 if not RA3 (I am refering to Factory Nav).

#78 ·
Shouldnt matter... long as the ISO is the only thing in there. Car must but not running but in "RUN" mode. Then you insert the USB stick, it wont do anything for close to 60 seconds, then the message pops up. It takes a while for it to verify the file is valid.

Bad news. My uconnect screen already froze up again with the new update. This is about 4 times now in the last 2 weeks. In this case the buttons along the button were functional but the top 2/3 was stuck on the navigation screen. I restarted the car once at a stop light and that didn't fix it. I had to turn the car off, lock the doors wait a couple minutes and then it seemed to reset itself. Grrr. It's getting annoying getting in the car and hoping you can use your nav system or change the climate control settings.

Let me look into that. Is there any device connected to the USB or SD when this happens. Any phone on BT?

What's up everyone

A few questions

1) The files downloadable from the Mega website look to only work on Windows. They are .exe. Any link to the download for a Mac version or perhaps just the .iso file?

2) Which file system does the USB key need to be for the Jeep to read the file? FAT32?

Thanks!

Fat32 yes.

It is simply a self extracting zip...you can get it unpacked on a Mac..... I can grab the file for the Mac for an RA4 for a Mac later if there are issues. I don't presently have a RA3 vehicle and I don't want to steal a VIN for that

Or

I can repost both as a zip or other Mac compatible files... I have Macs at home.

Wow Chrysler download servers remind me of the Internet circa 1998. All day to download 1 file and it it just fails 1/2 way through.. wow.

Thanks for the feedback Willx.

I assume when the file (.exe or zip) is unpacked it's just a raw .iso file? Any way to upload just that .iso to Mega website? Or do you have to upload a compressed file to Mega?

I will upload the RAW ISOs later tonight. They are over 500 megs each.

and yes, the .exe is simply a zipped up ISO

Thx Willx. I just updated my RA4 using your download. The Chrysler site is slower than dail-up in Albania. No issues. Everything works and all of my previous setting are intact. Hopefully the Sirius/XM phantom channel changing gremlin is gone.

I fell asleep for a couple of hours. When I woke up it only took another hour+ to finish. It then properly extracted to the flash drive. This was from the Jeep site.

If I hadn't read the instructions I would have hit save instead of run when starting the download.

Just had it reboot itself to the jeep screen while driving home this evening. The reboot happened when I tried to do a voice command. The voice command buttons on the steering wheel were then non-responsive for a couple minutes. I think it is safe to say this update didn't resolve anything for me. I'll try unplugging my iPod for a while, but I must say that the infotainment features were a big reason I went with the jeep over just getting a new mazda cx-9. And now to debug the jeep I need to unplug the ipod. The irony....

It is a big reason for me too to be on the jeep. The reason why I ask about the USB is that it is a voltage draw (unlike SD) and if we can find some common thread on the issue then we can point the engineers in the right direction. I used to work with programmers every day, and you need to give them something to replicate. Slowness was an issue for all users but not everyone is using USB. If there is an issue with using USB that causes problems then it can be looked at for the next update cycle. 3 month updates would be considered Agile development so let's give em something to develop. Maybe if it is a major issue and clearly identified we can see that update sooner

I downloaded the file from the mega site in under 7 minutes this afternoon. I saved the file to my computer as the EXE file. Then you extract it to the USB so it has the ISO file on the drive. If you know that you don't have this software version, just go ahead and do the install. Turn the car to RUN and just sit back to wait. It will ask if you want to update, should take about 10 minutes. Pretty easy to do that and everything came back, including the apps. So far so good, we will see what happens.

#107 ·
Sno,

Have you noticed anything different/improved after the update?

.
It does seem a little quicker but haven't played much with it today. I have 2 - 1 hour drives tomorrow that I can test it out more. I will let you know.
