Updated: May 24 2013 @ 12:25pm EST

There were updates posted May 22nd 2013 for the 2014 Grand Cherokee containing both the 8.4A or 8.4AN UConnect systems (RA3 and RA4 model option codes). The notes below are updated as I get more information on these updates. People have used both the files I have posted, and are confirmed GOOD as well as worked with the Chrysler UConnect website, which at time of this update is running EXTREMELY poorly.

FYI the site is awfully slow, probably due to increased volume. If you get the white Bar across the screen WAIT, if you enter your VIN and click the button and nothing happens WAIT.... or do the items below as per the instructions.

Link to check: Uconnect | Support | Jeep

Here are the links for the speedy download (these are downloaded by members and re-uploaded for your ease of use) but if unsure not a bad idea to be patient and check your VIN above.

Here is the RA3
RA3_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (369.8 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!oNZCmLbJ!AiKWDH8mMR6kmoUkL7HftmrsPAZKZexh0ew2PQbd4l8

Here is the RA4:
RA4_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (370.3 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!A5UUHCBC!IJMrFgM4SsRmwLhGWLqtA2YdS5sjSf56JdIQt1n4f28

Instructions are Attached

** Confirmed update times for both versions are 9-10 min once USB is in (instructions state up to 45 must include the wait time for the UConnect site )
** It has also been noted that the Mega file downloads work much better with Google Chrome

Edit: So far the only reported issues are as follows

- If you had an "apps" button it will turn into "settings" but will turn back to "apps".
- You will MAY loose your XM Presets, some people seem to, probably relates to how old your original version is. The RA4 I did, DID NOT loose them
-This update does not include a Quadra-Lift setting for drop in park, I am not sure if this is possible but submit to Customer Service if this is something people want.

These items are confirmed good.

-NAV Presets saved are ok through upgrade.
-Phonebook is unaffected.
-Recent NAV Points are also not affected.
-Users haved noted a marked increase in Navigation speed.
-Users who were running the RAM Pickup update have had thier issues corrected.
-Bluetooth audio playback and track changes improved.
-General improvements in moving between applications

I will update this Post as Bugs and Fixes are reported.

** Please post back things you notice about these updates good and bad.

Two days after taking delivery, the backup camera would just stay a blue screen. Park sense seemed to be working fine. After updating Uconnect software the camera came back for about to days. Now it will be inop with every start, but comes back after doing the reset involving the mirror buttons. Is this unique and is there any point bringing it back to the dealer? Even if they document the same behavior it doesn't sound like something they would be able to fix-sounds more like a software issue.

Take it to the dealer. They will check what they can, and if they can't fix it they will contact Chrysler with the problem. Chrysler will direct them from there. A problem I had was solved by Chrysler sending a new PCM which the dealer installed. Even if it is a software problem, if they don't know about it, they will never fix it.

I see mention that we get a free trial of UConnect. We bought two Jeeps over the past two months and neither salesperson indicated that we got a trial.

Can anyone share how long the trial is and whether we should activate immediately? Do we call UConnect to do this?

Sorry if I missed the answer earlier.

The salesman might not have mentioned it, but it is mentioned in the user's guide. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I registered through the touch screen in the Jeep. It's a trial to uConnect Access. which allows you to start your car, lock and unlock remotely, etc. with a phone or wifi intrnet connection. The trial is for one year from date of purchase with the '14 Grand Cherokee. I'm not sure it is the same with all models, and you just said you bought Jeeps.

Included Trial Period for New Vehicles

• Your new vehicle may come with an included trial period for use of the Uconnect
R
Access Services starting at the date of vehicle purchase*. To activate the trial, you
must first register with Uconnect

R Access. Once registered, UconnectR Access
customers can purchase additional Services and Apps over the lifetime of their
vehicle ownership.

I installed update a week ago, and registered Uconnect on 4/13. No issues before or after update. No issues since I took delivery. Had some glitches that were caused by my not knowing how everything operated, but the learning curve is smoothing out now. The update actually helps my system run better. Faster response, and better VR functionality.

I had registered a few days ago, had issues after that, put on the update today and all is working well so far except that I am trying to change the night time display lighting and it never will change from 10. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Does anyone know if you have to have the lights on in order to get that choice to go from 10 down to 6 or 7? Everything else is working very well so far.

To adjust the nighttime display brightness:
1) make sure the dimmer wheel is not maxed out
2) choose night mode from the display menu
3) manually turn on your headlights and lower to your desired brightness
4) re-select auto from the display menu
5) turn off headlights or put it in auto

Now when your headlights come on, the screen should dim to the brightness you selected.

Updates vs UConnect funny stuff

To My Knowledge, there have been no NEW problems with the latest update (loaded in the vehicle by USB). There are some things that UConnect Access seems to do on certain days that affect a number of people but it doesn't seem related to the update.

That's the feeling I have. Having had some of the "one day glitches", I think if it was related to the update they would be permanent.

Yes, People keep bringing it up. I have PMed and read enough to confidently say people should run the update. I think it also takes a variable away in that there is 4 or 5 old softwares floating around there and at least 3 of the older softwares have phone pairing issues (Documented in Dealerconnect). There was one guy who got the service phone system error but I still thank that was hardware.

Btw, had to thank you for your post... big 100 :)

On a slightly off topic but related note, I have driven 2 x 2013 Equinox in the last 6 months that were nearly identical... SUDDENLY they have changed the hardware of the radio and the stupid Bluetooth pairing is flaky as all hell. How can you go middle model year of a long in the tooth build and suddenly mess up the hardware?? :slapfight:

Of course the advisor says to me the GM training guys say "GM spent $150,000 on Bluetooth technology, do you think your $300.00 phone might be the problem instead" to which I answered... "OH ya for sure GM is spending way more in Bluetooth technology testing and development than Google or Apple, for sure NOT!!"

Anyway, spent some time diagnosing it myself. If phonebook sync is turned off (denied) by my phone it works fine, so clearly they have now created a phone book sync issue. OH well, only have time to focus on one infotainment system and the UConnect is way more Awesomer (yes I wrote that on purpose)

Since doing the update the Sirius presets & favorites switch back and forth at each start up between the presets that were set before the update and presets that have been set since the update. The presets that were prior to the update were wiped out and now have returned with this behavior. A minor but annoying problem. Since the update there have been no reboots and loss of Sirius sat signal is less frequent. There was the spat of notifications that everyone was getting for a few days but those are gone now.

Interesting, first time I have seen this but I will add it to my little running list.

It was a quiet weekend, so today I got 2 new surprises.

First, when I switched to XM there were no presets, but it started playing my last station. After a few minutes my usual presets popped up.

Second, when I pulled into my garage my headlights came on along with the high beams. The new twist is that they shut off as soon as I shut off the engine. Since I got the Jeep they always turned off when I opened the door. I have always had them set for no delay.

I don't consider either of these a problem as I mostly listen to the same station on XM and I'm happy to have the headlights turn off right away, but I'm getting tired of all the surprises. I always have to stop and think if I did something different.

Yeah, my XM and regular radio presets were gone, as well as my XM favorites list yesterday afternoon. Worked fine Saturday. Not a big deal, but somewhat irritating....and without warning.

#415 ·
Upgraded on Sat. Presets to XM and Phone were fine. Took truck to dinner on Sun. XM presets were gone, tried to direct dial a station and screen went completely black with no response. On restart screen working but presets again gone, did not reset any stations. On Monday, original presets are back and appear to be working. ???

Have not registered for apps. Model 8.4AN

Wow, that is a combination of things and especially for a radio that has not been activated!

At Present there are no STAR Cases or TSBs on any of the described issues. I would suggest that these problems do need to be reported to your dealers. The fact there is no information in the system about the issues I can't guarantee that there will be a satisfactory response but as they will be receiving a number of these complaints I would expect escalation to happen fairly quickly.

I also have high hopes that we will hear back from mzimm88 about his replacement and know that it is hardware. I still don't believe the software update is doing more bad than good but it may also be bringing the hardware gremlins in a few radios to the surface (purely theory)

#417 ·
Just wondering if people having post update problems that seem to cure themselves are strictly following the update directions. I know after I updated and followed the instructions the radio took quite a while to load some of the modules, especially the SXM bit, on the next start up. The final instructions might be a little confusing if you don't have a copy in the vehicle when doing the update.
4.2 It is now safe to remove the USB flash drive.
4.3 Turn the ignition off.
4.4 Open and Close the Driver’s door.
4.5 Wait for the halo light around the remote USB port to turn off. Once the light has turned off the vehicle is completely powered down. You can now exit the vehicle process is complete.
If done in daylight it might be hard to detect the power down. Anyway, just some thoughts.

I did the update from this thread (could not get the ChryCo website to cough up anything), Thanks Willx!

Haven't had any reboots or errors since the update. I did have it not accept the "Okay" green button after reaching a destination today though, I pushed it multiple times and it would gray for a moment and then come right back. I finally got it to clear by leaving the nav for another screen and then came back and it was gone.

I too would like the screen to return to the previous state after a phone call and so far the VR is abysmal but I'm not too surprised by that. Can it learn my voice, does it get better over time?

It would be good if the NAV listing for multiple hits of the same thing included part of the address and not just the distance from me so I could pick the correct one more easily.

Ok, first post on the site! Question I have is I have the 8.4A but with Navigation activated by the dealer. So which software update should I load, the one for the 8.4A or 8.4AN? Current version of software loaded is 13.05 and we are having a lot of issues that all started after registering with uconnect. I'll be doing a new members post as soon as I'm done typing this.

It's an 8.4A unit, so that's the update you should use. And welcome to the forum!

On the other hand, I did register with UConnect, did the update to most current and have not suffered any problems. I do not have a cell phone paired with the system. As with several others, though, the "free" UConnect media apps remain lost in the ether....
