Updated: May 24 2013 @ 12:25pm EST

There were updates posted May 22nd 2013 for the 2014 Grand Cherokee containing both the 8.4A or 8.4AN UConnect systems (RA3 and RA4 model option codes). The notes below are updated as I get more information on these updates. People have used both the files I have posted, and are confirmed GOOD as well as worked with the Chrysler UConnect website, which at time of this update is running EXTREMELY poorly.

FYI the site is awfully slow, probably due to increased volume. If you get the white Bar across the screen WAIT, if you enter your VIN and click the button and nothing happens WAIT.... or do the items below as per the instructions.

Link to check: Uconnect | Support | Jeep

Here are the links for the speedy download (these are downloaded by members and re-uploaded for your ease of use) but if unsure not a bad idea to be patient and check your VIN above.

Here is the RA3
RA3_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (369.8 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!oNZCmLbJ!AiKWDH8mMR6kmoUkL7HftmrsPAZKZexh0ew2PQbd4l8

Here is the RA4:
RA4_13_15_4-T3-8.exe (370.3 MB)
https://mega.co.nz/#!A5UUHCBC!IJMrFgM4SsRmwLhGWLqtA2YdS5sjSf56JdIQt1n4f28

Instructions are Attached

** Confirmed update times for both versions are 9-10 min once USB is in (instructions state up to 45 must include the wait time for the UConnect site )
** It has also been noted that the Mega file downloads work much better with Google Chrome

Edit: So far the only reported issues are as follows

- If you had an "apps" button it will turn into "settings" but will turn back to "apps".
- You will MAY loose your XM Presets, some people seem to, probably relates to how old your original version is. The RA4 I did, DID NOT loose them
-This update does not include a Quadra-Lift setting for drop in park, I am not sure if this is possible but submit to Customer Service if this is something people want.

These items are confirmed good.

-NAV Presets saved are ok through upgrade.
-Phonebook is unaffected.
-Recent NAV Points are also not affected.
-Users haved noted a marked increase in Navigation speed.
-Users who were running the RAM Pickup update have had thier issues corrected.
-Bluetooth audio playback and track changes improved.
-General improvements in moving between applications

I will update this Post as Bugs and Fixes are reported.

** Please post back things you notice about these updates good and bad.

Hmm, now the question becomes do I wait for the software patch or take into the dealer. Over the weekend we went on a small local trip of about an hour in length. During that time, the system rebooted itself 9 times (3 of which before I even left the driveway). On the ride back, the nav system did something new. It calculated the route, then the map froze on one location. Still had access to all the buttons, I could switch back and for between media/radio/climate. Tried stopping the nav route and re-entering the route, it would freeze on the same location. Stopped the vehicle, shut it off, opened the door and allowed it to de-energize. Restarted the vehicle, system worked fine. Tonight, on my wife's 20 mile drive home it rebooted 3 times then as she pulled into the driveway, the screen went totally black. Nothing worked at all. Shut the vehicle off and restarted it. Works fine.

Now, should I wait software version 13.19 or take it to the dealer? Jeep Customer service called me this evening in response to the survey I had taken and that was their recommendation.

I really believe this is a software issue.

I dont think 13.9 will be out for a while. You risk nothing by running the 13.15 update if you are going to the dealer anyway.

At the very least, take Bills_de's advise and print the instructions from post 1 and take it with you to the dealer. Most dealers dont know about the updates really.

Been running version 13.15.4 for over a week now. It did fix a lot of things, but the reboot issues are driving us nuts. I've checked the all the software versions for all the ones that I can find, but they don't changed after the reboots.

So after the update I just noticed a certain something with AC with the auto start and I know other people have as well.
If I leave the AC on with a speed of 5X.

When I auto start the car the AC goes on but at like a 1X or 2X level fan.

Once you open the door it goes to the last setting of 5X.

Is that what is suppose to happen?

#595 ·
Long and short of it. There is an auto a/c issue. It is not related to the software update, we have confirmed this but appear to only affect certain vehicles. The HVAC when working as designed has a preset it runs on in relation to outdoor temperature. Once you enter the vehicle it should recall the user setting.

#596 ·
Why does it care about outside temps? If my car sits in the sun on a cool sunny day, it gets hot inside. I noticed a few times the a/c didn't run on high even though it was very hot inside.

Acura uses GPS to determine which direction the sun is hitting the car and adjusts output accordingly. It does work, but I still think it's over the top.

The "theory" is this, and I didn't make this up nor do I completely agree with it. They should use a combination of both in and out.

The idea was if it is cool outside and warm in the car that it should stay that way.

I am not sure if there is some other hidden reason on this but the outside temp needs to be above or below a certain temp and then it desides also if it should run the heated steering wheel etc. I guess there is a small amount of logic to this as if it was warm outside and cool in the car you wouldn't want the heat to come on and the heated steering wheel?

I have already had the inverse this spring where the vehicle was already nice and warm inside from the sun but as it was cool outside the heat and heated steering wheel came on anyway.

It kinda makes sense, but I think they could have sampled both temperatures. I think the rule set makes more sense when you take the heated steering wheel into acount.

OK,

According to Bulletin 08-002-13 REV. B June 8th 2013 (How to Activate Nav on an RA3)

CAUTION: The customer needs to be notified and clearly understand once this
system is activated it can NOT be deactivated. This feature can NOT be
transferred to another vehicle. When the feature is activated it's
“non-refundable, irreversible, and permanently attached to the VEHICLE
(not the customer) for the life of the vehicle.”

To me that says that it is hard coded into the unit once it has been done. The Dealer is required to note the activation on an RO for warranty tracking so if it did disappear there is no issues but according to what I can gather that is not the case.

Attached are the reset instructions for failed UConnect activations. This is the factory reset.

Tech and I have a love hate relationship. Jeep's design is the best as the icons stay in place at the bottom and it has some redundant knobs.

Cadillac Cue is a big fail for this. They use capacitive touch buttons as well not a single knob..... what knob thought that was a good idea???

Fwiw my service guy whom I gave a shot about his Blackhawks losing to my bruins told me he was told january 2014 they are going to be replacing everyone's unit. Sounded like a recall maybe? Again take it with a grain of salt. I picked up my summit today and don't think I'll register. Haha

That is not happening. There have never and will never be a recall of that sort. They may do a customer satisfaction campaign and make sure a certain update gets loaded on a service visit. The fact is that the great majority of the units are working well aside from some of the app funny business. Out of the 5 or so Chrysler Stores I have visited recently none of them have even had someone come in and complain about the system. I ask because I often share information directly with the dealers. Of course I am not remotely denying some people are having some serious problems but the percentage of units built is pretty low IMHO.

If your Summit was recently built it is likely running 13.19.0. We would all likely be very interested if you did register it as it would be nice to see if the apps stuff has been fixed. You can unregister it easy enough. The instructions are in the Thread.

Ever since I updated I have had NO, Absolutley NO, voice command. I was so impressed (compared to my 13 explorer) on how well Uconnect interpreted my voice commands but since he update my voice commands do NOTHING. I say something, the radio goes dead as it "processes" for 5 min then nothing. Anyone had this issue? I'm getting awfully sick of the apparent college freshmen in computer programming that Chrysler hired to do its programming. Ugh.

I would suggest running the exact same update again. Make sure you follow the instructions to the letter. There is one other user that had Voice failure after the update that re-ran the same update and this corrected the problem.

I don't work for Chrysler, so you wont offend me but I do believe that the improved software is enroute. When it works, it works very well.

There is also a possibility you have a hardware issue, but if I was you I would re-run that update.

I have an Android HTC 1x Plus and noticed that it "skips" when first playing music, the problem is it isn't skipping or a connectivity issue, its the phone trying to decide what audio app to use, and will bounce back and fourth and once it figures out what one im using the skipping stops. It always starts the native google play and i never use it. i use pandora or amazon app. try using a differant music app might help.

Really need the advice of you Uconnect experts:

I am getting a smart phone upgrade through Verizon. (I currently have an Apple IPhone 4) ***Which phone do you recommend***.

There's a really good deal on the Ssung Galaxy 4, but I don't want a phone that is not 100% compatible with Ucconnect.

Sadly, after my issues, I don't trust anyone aside from forum members/Jeep owners.

.......so what phones do you recommend and why :)

Thanks!

I don't disagree with anything Geox has mentioned in his note. I have tested the S4 but not long term. It is an amazing phone and Google is very good at improving the OS and drivers the last few revisions.

That is about all I can say at this point.

I have a Verizon gallaxy note 2 and it has the random blue tooth reconnect with the 8.4 system. I'm going to update my phones rom to see if it fixes the issue since my phones rooted. I have a jambox that never disconnects so I'm thinking it's the head unit creating the problems the rom I'll be installing is based off the latest note 2 update that has a bunch of bug fixes in it from Google. I've read that android 4.1 has an issue with bluetooth disconnect will see. Actually I need to hook up another phone to it and see if that disconnects as well

Since I have been looking at phones to use with my GC when it arrives it appears that both the I5 and S4 are good iphones to use but the I5 is not as durable as the S4 in drop test so I suggest you check out and google the drop test and watch the videos.
Verizon told me that it would cost 121,00 for a protection kit for the I5 and I see that Monoprice.com has a protection set up for $3.00 for the S4 so I am leaning toward the S4. My wife only wants a basic cell so that will save $40.00 per month not to have two data phones. Verizon is offering on upgrade both the I5 and the S4 for $199 and for a basic phone I am selecting a Samsung Intensity® III for her which is $49 on the upgrade. The Intensity uses the BREW operating system (not Android). There is a $30 per phone activation fee. The I5 uses the EOS operating system and I note on Uconnect there are 3 different versions listed. Verizon tells me that that phone automatically changes to the latest firmware. The Sammy data phones use the Android. Some users have complained about the Note 2 but I have no real info on if true.
If you are upgrading careful if you have in house cell amp's that the frequency match. Both ATT and Verizon use 800/1900 (as I remember) and Sprint uses something else. Sprint is offering the S4 upgrade for $149 but do not have coverage in my area so that is a no go

Greatttt another thread idea

Actually you are correct. As I am a roadwarrier (hence the need for Diesel) I always am throwing my phone on a shelf up high and setting up mobile hotspot. When I am camping I setup my cell booster kit so I can do the same and stay connected. One thing I can say about the RAZR (probably because of Motorola's experience) the cell radio in this thing is awesome. I can do entire calls on 1 bar and I get reception when other users on the same carrier have nothing.

Maybe when the UConnect stuff slows down a little we can talk about that stuff more. Or maybe now...? Go start another thread ;)

At your suggetion I set up another thread. The Thread is listed as Uconnect and Cellphone:
Possibly we can get enough user information since the Uconnect information about compatibility is so outdated and new cell phones are being introduced very quickly.

Do you guys notice with your messaging portion of Bluetooth that sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, in regard to hearing and viewing text messages on the UConnect? Sometimes it's grayed out and sometimes it actually notified me of a text and others not. I had hoped I'd be free of gremlins. :(

Gremlins are good ask bill_de.... other than that I haven't really worked with that much yet. As you are running 13.15.4 there will be an update fairly soon. Before we think this is an issue though I should let other users chime in on this.

Updated my Verizon Galaxy note II to latest update/rom I run Beans ROM rooted phone. Everything is working great now No more disconnecting text messages use to not come through all the time seems to have fix that also. Like I said there's known Bluetooth bugs in android 4.1 so if your phone has an update or it will soon that will probably fix the disconnecting. Played with it for about an hour will see if it keeps working before update it would disconnect soon as it connect at least 3 or 4 times.

Thanks Geox. That is great info.

I don't have the resources to be loading all kinds of phones with software on top of the testing I do in my free time so this is a huge help and identifies this a a phone software issue. Used to have some friends at Google founding 50 but not so much any more so if anyone has the spare time make sure to post this in an Android forum where it might get noticed.

Hi Will.... this is my absolute first post on this site, but this topic "My uconnect software" my one major issue with my new 14' JGC.

Question... I have the RA4 radio, do you have to rename the file you download from your FTP to anything? the PDF states the file name should be SWDL.ISO but the screenshots show the file as Chrysler.Radio.Update.exe

Also, I have a Apple Mac... would the FTP file I download still be ok to use?

Welcome to JeepGarage,

The files on the site are self extracting ZIPs. If you read on a few pages from post one people talk about which MAC application works best with it but definitely it can be done with a MAC. UConnect has a separate download but the site was so messed up when we first did this that I gave up trying to get it.

As long as you extract the contents of that file to a USB stick you should be good to go. I see you are reading those instructions, that part is important.

May I ask what issues you are having? We have all learned a fair bit about what the sources of some of the issues are in the last few days (hence the rooted Note 2 Conversations).
