I assume i can see if this exists from the HU? Damn '15 models have the base system with no external amp

the output leads for the base 6 speaker system are right behind the radio (touch screen).

How are folks not mentioning this when they talk about their speaker upgrades alone? I find this to be very misleading unless I'm wrong once again about this? I guess the biggest challenge i have with putting a full audio system into a car is running all new speaker wire throughout the car. Not that its a difficult process, but long. Also if i wanted to revert the process it would make things more difficult. Uuggg nothing is freaking simple.

I guess let me add, has anyone found any 2 ohm replacements that make a difference?

EDIT:
OR! Is it because if the sensitivity is 90+ DB, this makes up for the lost of volume? So a speaker with a 93+DB will probably put out the same amount of volume @ 4ohms then one lets say @ 88db @ 2 ohms?

Haha sorry still learning all of this!

Reviving this discussion....

OK, I just did a search of the discussions that I've recently been involved in, and this one came up. Reading back through it, I came upon this post, and feel the need to throw in another $0.02 worth.

Last week, I replaced the OE speakers in my 2015 GC, equipped with the base 6 speaker set-up. The speakers I replaced them with, were the Focal ISS690 component set for the front doors, and the IS165 coaxial speakers for the rear doors. These speakers all have an impedance of 4 Ohms.

The OE speakers that I removed were 4 Ohms impedance, except the tweeters, which measured out at 5 Ohms. Except for certain subwoofers, I've never seen car audio speakers that were 2 Ohm impedance, and most home audio speakers are 8 Ohm impedance.

With respect to wiring, I simply used the commercially available "Chrysler harness to aftermarket speaker" adapter plugs, except for the tweeters, because there aren't adapters available for that application. I had to unplug the tweeters from the OE harness, then cut the wires about 2" from the plug, install male and female connectors to each side of this connection, then plug them in.

There is absolutely NO reason to have to re-wire the vehicle, when doing a simple speaker swap....

And you're still using the head unit that came with your jeep??? How many hours do you figure it will be before they break in and you have the settled sound that they give?

Since I have the ORAII package, which includes the Quadra-Lift suspension, I have to retain the OE head unit, because along with the climate controls, the head unit also has suspension controls contained within it.

I really don't know how long it will take the speakers to break in, in terms of hours in use. In my case, it might be a while, as I don't have a lot of miles on the GC. I took delivery of it in March, and so far, I've put only 2800 miles on it. Right now, it's not daily driven, but once the snow flies, it will be driven more frequently.

Greetings,

Yes, this is very true. In fact, in MY11, the speaker was not changed. Only the leads from the amp to the respect lines were soldiered. The OE speaker cable happens to very good for these short lengths. Remember, you are not running great lengths as in a home or pro application.

Best for now.

Re: Upgrade stock 6 speaker system on 2015 JGC Limited

Just to revive this thread, I've been driving the GC more, because as we only had a burst of snow a couple of weeks back, the local DPW salted the roads a little heavily, so the Corvette got parked for the winter, and the GC is now the DD.

Being an "old timer" my listening taste is primarily "classic rock" from the 60s and 70s. The audio quality from Sirius XM is all over the map, since I'm pretty sure all of the really old music has been "remastered" 10 times over, with varying results, and changes in the overall sound. Nonetheless, I had the 70s channel tuned in, and a good old fashioned, "bass head" tune came on.....Bachman Turner Overdrive's 'Takin Care Of Business".

The Focal speakers performed very well. Yes, the tweeters are "crisp", and they do indeed accentuate the varying recording levels of the music being broadcast. They can be a little harsh on one tune, yet very smooth and detailed on another. The low end response was outstanding, however. Yeah, a true, die-hard "bass head" might want the additional low end response that either an outboard power amp or subwoofer might provide, but the improved sound quality of the Focal speakers alone, even with the OE head unit, is noteworthy.

Do you have any pics of the install or the end result? Where did you purchase your speakers?

All of the install information you need, is contained in this excellent tutorial....

I purchased my speakers from Crutchfield. They're basically priced the same as anyone/everyone else, who sells genuine Focal speakers. And, they include the Jeep wire harness-to-speaker adapters, which nobody else does, so it was an easy decision to go with Crutchfield. I've been a satisfied customer of theirs for about 25 years....

What was the purchase price for your Focals and what exactly did you purchase?

FWIW - I have a 2011 JGC 4x4 Overland with the Quadralift suspension. I just installed a Pioneer 4100NEX aftermarket headunit with the iDataLink Maestro RR steering wheel control module.

I am not having any issues with the QL suspension... I wasn't aware the OE headunit contained any controls for it. That headunit is no longer in my vehicle and I am having no problems at all.

And BTW simply replacing the stock headunit made a very noticeable improvement in the sound quality in addition to giving me newer features (Apple CarPlay, etc). I believe the stock headunit limits the frequency range a bit. The aftermarket headunit sends a full signal to the factory amp and speakers resulting in much better sound IMO.

It's not often I do it, but having read my owners manual, I stumbled on a few interesting facts about the QL system. It states that there are two specific functions, accessed on one of the touch screen pages, that relate to the QL suspension. One of the functions is called "jacking mode", which you use if you need to change a flat tire. I think it momentarily disables the self leveling function while you change the tire.

The other function is the "wheel alignment" mode, which lowers the vehicle to a specific ride height, and then maintains it, during the alignment procedure.

It seems to me, these functions are rather important......
