Bake, do you have a photo of the tweeters mounted now? I believe the Imagines are a similar size to the Polk MM's I have ordered but I am not sure how I am going to integrate them as yet...

Thanks

Re: Upgrading just the base speakers?

I went and talked to an audio shop, they recommended doing an amp and processor as opposed to speakers if I were to choose one or the other/upgrade in steps. Would you guys agree? They also said that it would take about $1,500 otherwise it wouldn't really be worth it, even though I told them the stock system does 60-70% of what I want. I was hoping there'd be something that could be done with quality parts for less than that.

They said that better speakers wouldn't put out a noticeable difference with the stock system.

That seems to contradict what most members on here have experienced with a speaker only upgrade. I'm no expert but I would have thought an amp upgrade on stock speakers would only give a similar improvement.

An amp on these stock speakers will only make them more muddy. To get some better highs and midrange you have to at least swap the dash, tweeters and door speakers first. Try that out then maybe put an amp and appropriate crossover in there and also keeping the head unit and stock sub.

I would trust reviews from members here over a business who wants your money.

Did you think they'd recommend what makes them the least amount of money?

Upgrade your front mids and tweeters with speakers with a sensitivity of 90db or higher and I guarantee you'll notice an improvement.

I didn't upgrade anything but the center speaker to a Polk. Will upgrade the mids and tweeters eventually.

Just speaking from general speaker knowledge.... And reading about people here who have replaced just the speakers.

I think I'm going definitely upgrade at least all the speakers and tweeters both in the front and the rear and I have a Polk for the dash speaker so that going to be replaced first. I'm trying to figure out what speakers I'm going with for the rest..I'm keeping the stock sub for now to see how that works with the new speakers and I'm keeping my 8.4 inch head unit. Why did you previously say that any speakers rated above 90 decibels would be good?? Explain that if you could. Believe it or not I checked with crutchfield and they have no recommendations for the 2014 yet because its too new I guess.

As I wasn't sure when I would connect an amp I decided to go for the Polk MM6501 splits for the front due to them being 2.7ohm. I have read the mid range is 2ohm and the tweeter is 4ohm. I am also going to drop a Polk DXi350 in the dash centre as well. I did look at the 2ohm Focal but thought a AU$1100 speaker would be wasted on the stock amp.
