Whatever speakers you use hopefully they have the same amount of mounting holes so nothing has to be modified during the install.

I'd probably just replace the tweeter with a HAT Clarus tweeter if it doesn't come good. I've been told give it 20hrs use and then judge it.

Don't use any coaxials (in the front), replace with some components as that is what you have there now. There are some well priced components out there that should give you an improvement. Again, just watch the front clearance.

Maybe these:

Kicker 40CSS694 6"x9" component speaker system at Crutchfield.com
Thanks exlr. those kickers are 4 ohm but my search on this forum gave me impression that i should use only 2 ohm impedance speakers. since factory ones are 2 ohm......... no?

If its ok to use 4 ohm then i have so many good choices in my price range.

So long as the sensitivity is over 90dB it should be fine. I've used 2 and 4 ohm with 94dB and could pick no discernible difference. Worst case is the OEM speakers will be louder at the same volume setting but that is not my experience. In that case replace the rest or use the fader.

Re: Upgrading just the base speakers?

alright... I bought focal tweeters , I want to start with tweeters first and then later the speakers.

Is this true that , to change the tweeters i'l have to take the door panel off, because the tweeter trim goes underneath the door panel??? Or i can just pry off the trim which houses tweeter??? I actually dont wanna take the door panel off, any insight?

Sorry, but the door trim has to come off to remove the plastic rivets at the bottom of the black upper trim. Refer to wk2jeeps.com site and download the interior panel removal PDF to help. You are also better off removing the entire upper trim if you need to modify the opening. I actually modified the back of the stock tweeter grille (cut if back) and attached the tweeter to the back of the grille with gaffa tape (wound it around the two parts together). I sounds dodgy but actually works very well. Photos in this thread. You may also need to replace the plastic rivets for the upper trim (two each side) but an auto store will stock generic replacements for a few dollars (for several). The tweet grille itself has to be detached from behind and then slides out forward (don't try and pry it out from the front).

Also after you have removed the three main door panel retainers and you look to pry off the panel it can be quite scary how much force you need to release it. It will eventually go bang! And then you are underway. Just be sensible and avoid using metal tools directly on the panels.

What model Focal tweet did you get? The size of the tweet will somewhat dictate you mounting method.

Re: Upgrading just the base speakers?

Thank you so much for help and time, i appreciate it.
Dang, seems like scary process for my brand new jeep. So you mean the rivets on top door trim may break? And yeah i was thinking to pry the tweeter grille out. thanks for telling me. and tweeters i bought are
FOCAL TN-44 ACCESS 4 OHM ALUMINUM INVERTED DOME CAR AUDIO TWEETERS, size is 1 inch. and i read somewhere that orange/grey is + wire.
I would also like to front door speakers while i have the door panel off. But i dont know where to get the nice midrange speakers only. most of them are component speakers. How about Mopar kicker 6x9 speaker?
KICKER Front 6x9 midbass (2) + 3.5" 2-way (2)

will these work good with my focal tweeters?
Thanks.

Or you could have just bought a Focal component set. And I took my door off without breaking clips or rivets.

A component set is the way to go. This is one of the most important parts to get good sound quality, so focus your budget on it. I would avoid mixing tweeters and mids unless you really know what you are doing.
No, the main door trim shouldn't have any issues with breaking clips ( unless totally reckless). Just the two cheap black plastic rivets in the black upper door trim snapped when pulling them out. They only cost a few cents to buy anyway (from auto store). This part comes off separately to the main door trim (once the main door trim is removed). The new rivets I got come out without breaking.
I'm sure once you have done it, it won't be a big deal for you. If you took it to a shop they would probably be more.... Careless (not all shops).

Here is a photo of the inside of the door, you can see where it is retained.

Re: Upgrading just the base speakers?

Thanks a bunch exlr8:

I was able to change my tweeters, and seems like factory tweeters were the weakest part of the audio system. The music is now more open and crisp.

I will keep hunting for Focal 6x9 speakers if i find them for good price.

Thanks again, you are so helpful.
