If you go with a 6.5" midrange you just need an adapter and to watch the front clearance (use a recessed rubber surround speaker in this size to be safe).

Read up about each one, look at reviews, audition them if you can, and go from there!
Thanks, so the focal 6x9 components for the front doors and tweets. The door speakers need no adapters to mount if I do 6x9's, right?

What's in the rear doors?

You would still need a midrange in that case. It only has a range to 4000Hz which is less than where a number of tweeters start.

Oh i see, got it.
I am totally noob when it comes to speakers.

i think i will end up with focals 165 6.5 speakers.

also what do you think about these

Pair Cadence CVLW69 6x9 Competition Mid Bass Driver Car Audio Midrange Speakers | eBay

I am also wondering about mounting depth... the above speakers would need Mounting Depth of 4-3/4", has a long magnet. It would be my first preference to get 6x9 instead od 6.5. I also came across MOPAR kicker 6x9 speakers which are upgrade by mopar.

Re: Upgrading just the base speakers?

You just go to crutchfield.com and buy some adapter plates for the 6.5. There is no issue with mounting depth of the Focals. Don't settle for anything less and stop trying to mix and match. IF you want awesome sound, you need a set of components and an amp. Anyhting less is just horse shit.

So you're saying without an amp replacing the speakers is waste of time?

I'm saying without an amp you will not get the full potential of your new speakers as your stock amp is too small and weak to power and your sound will not be what it could be.

My total build cost me around 3g. For that I got

-Alpine PDX V9 amp
-JL Audio Stealthbox
-Focal IS 165
-Focal IC 165
-Kenwood Excelon 890HD headunit
-speaker adapters, speaker wire, RCA cables, headunit installation kit. Sound deadening
-PAC Audio interface for steering wheel controls

Well I've noticed from a few folks that initially their sound has been improved drastically with replacing the stock speaker set up. Yes with an amp and another 2000 bucks I'm sure it would be better but maybe we will put the rest on layaway and enjoy the total speaker replacement first then ease into the amp a little while after the new speakers break in because any thing is better then the stock setup.

Thank you.
You need to get a matching set. Your tweeters should have a matching Focal 6" or 6x9" with that model. Mixing can be done but you need to know what you are doing, I wouldn't attempt it myself without professional advice.
