That is what I am running. But I also went all out with a new amp, new headunit and JL audio stealthbox. All new speaker wire. I love these speakers though. Clear, crisp and amazing. And here was my build....

12' Altitude Stereo Overhaul
How did you get front clearance on you front mids? I only had approx 18mm from base of original speaker to door panel...

Re: Upgrading just the base speakers?

alright... i will get focal midrange 6.5's. Now there are diff series of 6.5 focals some are very expensive and some are less but more than other brands still.

will these focals work good?

I did nothing. I added the adapter plate and placed the Focal right in. There is more than enough clearance.

I know the front focals should be 94 decibels what about the rear doors? Does focal make speakers for those doors with the same sensitivity?

Go with the component set in the first of those links. I am not a big fan of buying Focal's from non-authorised dealers (so many Focal fakes around) but if it is the one Subbie bought from, they sound like they are OK.

Just looking at them and from Subbie has said they are a low enough profile to clear the door trim. Still, I wouldn't make your adapter too big, most off the shelf adapters should be OK.

OK, Polk MM6501's just touch the trim with a 6mm (approx 1/4") thick spacer.

Thanks, and do the focal 6.5's drop right in without modification or backing plate needed for the rears? I assume these are just MID's as well?

Appreciate the help!

You need an adapter for the Focal's. Some brands like Polk and Infinity include them.

Gotcha, thanks again for the tips. So 6x9 Focal components in the front and 6x5 in the back all with backing plate adapters. Which Focal's did you throw in the rear doors? These http://www.crutchfield.com/p_091165CA1S/Focal-Access-165CA1-SG.html?tp=95

Not true. No adapter for my Focals in the rear door. Just rotate and drill new holes for the screws.
