Re: Upgrading the audio in my 2011 GC - full overhaul need opinions....

Update: Received my StealthBox on Sat. (Jan 26th) - the packaging box was absolutley destroyed, so I checked it out with the UPS driver present, and the box was badly damaged, so I did not accept the delivery and must now wait longer....

On a good note, everything else is complete on the install. I slapped in an old 12" sub my buddy had laying around to hold me over until this StealthBox issue gets worked out. I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how well this Cerwin Vega amp does - it's more than enough to push a simple system like this, and the cost on these is less than 1/2 of what the JL 900/5 costs....def somthing to consider. Not sure if I will stick with it or not, but I am impressed. Pics coming soon!!

Re: Upgrading the audio in my 2011 GC - full overhaul need opinions....

Sweet man your the only person so far that I know on the whole world wide web that has taken pics of them installing speakers and taken out the seats. Your the best man lol. Im looking at installing Illusion audio carbon C6 comps in the front and illusion audio Lucent 6-1/2 coaxles in the rear. Idk what im going to do for sub! I keep going back and forth between jl audio stealthbox or on JL audios website they have a 10"W3 in a sealed box thats made by jl audio for $320. Headunit will be pioneer X5500BHS and amp will be Phoenix Gold TI1600.5. (120x4 and 500x1 at 2 OHM). My question for you is How hard was it fishing the speaker wire through the rubber boots ? I hear it can be a bitch and also what gauge wire did you use? Im thinking 16 cause 14 will just not fit through the boot. I hear thoes door clips are a pain.

Oh also what 6X9 speaker adaptors did you use to fit 6-1/2 in the front doors?

I fish'ed 14 gauge wire through all 4 doors. HUGE pain in the a... . What I finally ended up doing is coating the wire in butter and it went much easier. Still a pain in the butt though.

Patience is an absolute must.

Nice thanks for the pictures. What are you using as a processor? Running off the stock amp or using a LOC like the LC7i between stock amp and aftermarket amp?

LOL Thank you for the kind words, I know when I was doing my research building up to this I couldn't find a lot of info or pics either. The decision on subs is always a tough one. I had (2) JL Audio 12W7s in my 2010 Camaro before I traded the Camaro in on my WK2, so obviously I like it LOW & LOUD. But as I'm getting a little older, the desire to break rear view mirrors and set off car alarms has decreased LOL. I'm more into the sound quality thing now, so I think the StealthBox will be a nice fit for my system. I bought the Jeep to have more space and cargo area - I would be a fool to ruin that by filling it with subs... I ran 14 gauge wire, and it was a major PAIN in the A**!! I ended up rubbing a little cooking spray to lube the wire up, and it was still a process.... and Yes, the door clips are a b*T*H, def use a door panel remover tool for leverage and to avoid breaking the panel itself.

I know Metra makes a universal set that will work, but the ones I ended up going with were some off-brand one of my local car audio shops carries. I was going to make the adapters out of 1/4" Hardboard, but I got lazy and went with the pre-made route LOL.

You will also need an adapter for the rear doors because it is a funky shaped over-sized 6 1/2" mount. Metra also makes that as a vehicle-specific one.

I swapped out the head unit as well. Went with the Pioneer AVH-X4500BT Double Din DVD Unit. I had the stock non-amplified 6 speaker system.

While it is a pain in the butt, it is very rewarding though. Very happy with the aftermarket upgrades I made.

Do your research, plan ahead and take your time.
