The USB in the armrest cannot be used for file transfer. It can charge, play some ipods and it will let you control some ipods (newer ipods) with the on-screen controls and steering wheel controls. The ipod control is very slow (takes much longer to find particular song through the on-screen controls compared to the ipod control). The best use I have found so far is to use a 32 gb flash memory usb 2 0r 3 formatted to fat32, load music directly from itunes music folder (just copy directly from windows explorer). Works without any significant delay and easy to transfer to and from computer.

Re: USB in arm rest

I have the 730N RHR and I use the USB in the Console to save MP3 music to the HDD and also play MP3 music straight from the USB.

What are you playing? Mp3 player or iPod?

Here is what I do: I go to Winows Media Player and rip CD's. I also download MP3 songs from Amazon.com Cloud Player to Windows Media Player. All songs are automatically placed in the folder My Music. I then create a sub folder called Jeep HDD under the folder My Music. Then I create sub folders under the folder Jeep HDD for only the Artist I want on the 730N RHR and copy only the songs I want to the appropriate Artist's folder. I then copy the Jeep HDD folder to a blank Fat32 USB. I then turn on the Jeep 730N RHR and place the USB in the console and wait for "AUX" to light up and then select "USB". Then I can copy from the USB to the 730N RHR hard drive or play music directly from the USB.

Re: USB in arm rest

Yes, I can do all this and play music from a properly formated thumbdrive plugged into the armrest port.

BUT...

I cannot see any of my folders, like I can when the same thumbdrive is plugged into the USB on the radio face.

I have approximately 200 albums with 2000 song on the thumbdrive, and all I can see is all the songs strung in alphabetical order.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I can see all my folders in alphabetical order if I place the same USB in the console or in the face of the 730N. I have no idea why you cannot when using the USB in the console. Good luck!

Re: USB in arm rest

The folders button in the lower RH corner shows when my thumbdrive is plugged into the radio face USB, and I can easily search my music. The folders buttom is missing when I am plugged into the armrest USB, and I can only access all the songs in alphabetical order.

I reformated another thumbdrive, copied several folders onto it from my iTunes account and it worked exactly the same.

No album art either way, either.

I am seriously thinking of getting a new nano thumbdrive that I can leave plugged into the radio USB, that is not quite so obvious.

Kleenex holder - the small pocket-size cellophane packs...
