USB in arm rest

I have read that the USB in the arm rest will charge your ipod, but does it still charge when the vehicle is turned off? I don't want it draining the battery when it's not running.

A cell phone or iPod would be nothing to worry about. The current drain would be so small it would never drain your car battery. Even if you left it on - playing, transmitting, etc - it would take days, maybe weeks to discharge your battery. And if it isn't doing anything once the devices battery is topped off it won't be pulling any juice from the car anyway.

Thanks. I thought it would shut off the device plugged in once the vehicle is turned off.

By the way you live really close to me. I'm in the roscoe, rockton area

No. At least, it doesn't in my 2011 Overland with 430N RHB.

Ok thanks. Guess it's not that hard to remember to turn it off.

Re: USB in arm rest

I leave my radar detector on in my Armada for weeks at a time without driving it and the battery is always fine. Ipod can't use more than that. I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: USB in arm rest

I don't know for sure, but IF it did charge your iPod when the vehicle is off (I don't think it does), but IF it did, that could lead to less battery life for the iPod by trying to overcharge the iPod's battery. Maybe someone knows if that is true or not. ?

iPods, pads, and phones won't overcharge. They'll shut off their charging when the battery is full so there is no danger of that.

Cool, I actually bought mine from Bryden in Beliot, right over the border from you. I also used to race a lot at Blackhawk Farms.

Guess the only thing to do is try it and see what happens.

That's where I have bought all five of my Jeeps. I deal with the same guy and the service department knows me by name

Re: USB in arm rest

Anyone know if that USB can be used to transfer music or play from an MP3 (non Ipod)? How can you "switch" to that source?

For the 430N RHB, you can play MP3s from a thumb drive in that socket. Plug it in, wait a few seconds, and you'll see it show up under AUX. This is how I play podcasts on long drives; I find it easier to use than my iPod.

But you can only load files to the hard disk from the socket in the head unit.

Re: USB in arm rest

I decided to just load all my songs on a thumb drive and put on the HD.
