USB iPad connection

When I connect my iPad to the arm rest USB connection it outlines it isn't charging. However it can communicate with the iPad through AUX interface, although its not technically synchronized. So I'm not sure it's a powered connection or not?

Re: USB iPad connection

It is a powered connector but the ipad draws way too much power for it. I put one of those high power USB adapters in the 12VDC outlet in the bottom console compartment (always on BTW) and connect my iPad there for power/charge and then use Bluetooth to play podcasts. You can't control the iPad song selection from the radio but otherwise it works just fine.

Re: USB iPad connection

Could you build/find a USB "splitter" that separates the power connections from the data connections? That way, you run the power to the 12V adapter and run the data to the USB port in the armrest. This should allow you to properly power the iPad while maintaining a synchronized connection to the 730.

Re: USB iPad connection

Perhaps use something like this:

http://www.cablejive.com/products/dockStubz.html

"If your iPod isn't getting enough power from it's dock, the dockStubz lets you inject power via a micro USB jack located on the side of the adapter." They claim it works with the iPad.

or this:

or
