USB Portable Disk Question

This may have been asked before but i cant find it..
When using a usb disk, ie i have a 700gb disk with photos, music etc on it, the the 431 see's the disk but nothing on it.

Does music and or photos need to be in the root of the disk and not in folders, will it not read folders?

Music can be in folders. (I haven't tried photos yet.)

Is the drive formatted FAT32? The stereo can't handle the standard Windows NTFS format.

The USB should be in Fat32 format and the current draw must be less than 500MA. I founfd that only USB flash media works but portable hard disks including ssd drives dont work even if they are formatted to FAT 32 due to higher power requirement. I simply use a USB 3.0 flash memory 32 gb formatted to fat32. works flawlessly.
