1 - Need the passenger to be able to find rest stops, gas stations, restaurants, and hotels WHILE MOVING.

2 - Need accurate, up-to-date map and Points of Interest (not obsolete 2012 data).

3 - Need routing that does not avoid "unverified areas" and send me miles in the wrong direction rather than use a nice 100 yard paved road (visible on the Jeep map) because it's "unverified".

4 - Rather not have to confirm "YES" after selection of GO, or STOP, or hear every "recalculating" message as I take a different route for a short ways.

After having same issues with my wifes 2012 Gen5 Subaru Legacy (liberty down under) was the main reason I opted for the Laredo (minus sat nav) with my own GPS tucked in the bottom cnr of the dash, at least I get free lifetime updates and are not held to ransom by a a manufacturer/3rd party provider offering 12-18 month behind updates

Re: Using Garmin Exclusively

I want my Navigation system to say Recalculating for cases when I accidently got off the route.

The lockouts while moving are a pain. It should allow them if the Passenger Seat is Occupied.

The Points of interest are rather useless any way.

Overall I think Jeep is ahead of the curve on the whole Entertainment/NAV Systems.

It really should allow using your phones data plan to update maps, points of interest, construction etc. WITHOUT a monthly fee. Just roll it into cost of the Jeep. Or offer a lifetime fee. I just don't want another stink'n bill to pay.

For 2013 and below, there is a Wi-Fi version but it costs more:

I use Google maps. Not 100% happy, but better than Jeep nav!

Re: Using Garmin Exclusively

Greetings,

Here is a link to a previous thread on this topic:

2014 8.4 Uconnect WifFi Interface Kit

It has great stuff and other suggestions as well.

Best for now.

Re: Using Garmin Exclusively

Sounds like after market is the way to go if you need a nav unit. The price you pay for the extra features plus updates is worth it.My buddy drives a big rig and says its already paid for itself,he has a rand macnaly (truckers edt.)and money he has saved from the speed trap alerts alone.(when the speed limit drops with poor signage)They also have other models like R/V and others.

Plus it has a dash cam!

Re: Using Garmin Exclusively

I did read somewhere on this site that there is a simple, single cable hardware solution to allow use of the touchscreen keyboard while moving. I don't want a software solution. I have searched but I can't find it. Does anyone know the company or product?

Thanks, Tom
