Volume level: Radio / SAT / USB / SD card

I've noticed that at the same volume setting the the FM radio (I don't use AM) is significantly louder than the SAT, USB, or SD card. It's really annoying when switching back and forth between them. Is this normal and is there any way to get them adjust the levels so they are the same or at least close?

I guess I noticed it without really thinking about it. I do find myself using the volume button on the back of the wheel. My last car had voice commands for volume. I haven't checked the Jeep yet.

I actually haven't noticed that SAT/FM are that much different in level.. but I don't listen to FM much (did listen to AM quite a bit on yesterday's roadtrip - to get traffic reports - and AM seemed right in line with SAT)

+1 Depends on the source strength. Supposedly software can level volumes of different sources, but as with commercials on television, this seldom works very well.

I noticed that on a Ford Edge that I rented. It was particularly annoying because I'd yank my phone out of the cable, and the FM would kick in -- radio blasting.

My hope on my new JGC is to use a Thumb drive/Compact Flash or whatever and put my music on that so I don't have to plug my phone in and out. I was hoping that this problem would go away in general, but for whatever reason it's systemic.

Be nice if the volume was a simple decibel limit regardless of the source, but that's probably easier said than done.
