Weather app

Weather application in the apps section...
When I bring up the radar app it never seems to show anything and it could be raining cats and dogs all around me ( and I do have a paid subscription...) is this an error or problem...
Also when I am in severe weather, the app never says or alerts you to anything....
My wife's car, 2011 Nissan with the same app alerts you within 30 sec of startup if there are any weather alerts or severe weather within 50-75 of your current location wherever you may be in the US... Shouldn't this unit do that also?

Re: Weather app

+1.

One time on a 2.5hrs drive, while it was raining the whole way, nothing ever came up.

It is very intermittent and nobody can figure out y.

Just curious, do ur remote features (app/website) work well? Mine do not and they think it's related but unable fix either.
11/13 build.

Re: Weather app

The weather app is fed by a Sirius/XM signal. It's been problematic for a lot of owners since the beginning. I don't think anyone knows why. It's real hit and miss. Mine worked most, but not all of the time. When the free trial ended I never renewed.

Re: Weather app

Call Sirius xm and have them reset your radio and 'resend the signal'. There is a procedure they will walk you through. It will work. I've hZd the 2014 summit for 16 months and have had to do it twice. Do it. It will solve your problem..,

Re: Weather app

Is this some sort of enabling signal for the feature that gets dropped?

I too have noticed that it doesn't seem to have data downloaded in advance. Seems to me when we call up the app it first displays the map then it goes looking for the data. Since it's a one way broadcast over the satellite (mixed in with traffic data, movie times, gas prices, sports scores/headlines, etc, etc)- it takes some period of time to loop around and get to the weather map data. So it waits to draw the radar until it gets around to downloading fresh data.

It seems when the key is off the thing goes into a "too deep" a sleep and doesn't keep receiving sat data nor keep a reasonable connection to 3g (why does it take several minutes for it to connect to the 3g to get a remote start request- but that's another post).

And also- even when on- it might not be smart enough to cache the data in the background so you can have the last transmission displayed as soon as you fire up the app.

Sounds like a 5+ year old Nissan is smart enough to continue to receive data in the background so you get timely information.

It's kind of indicative of the poor integration of the whole system and the way it makes horrible use of background data and/or the 2-way modem from sprint. XM/Chrysler/Sprint should work it out so the radio can send a request for time specific local data (traffic or weather) via the 3g modem to XM and then xm should pull out the local slice of requested data and send it back instantly to the radio over 3g. If could get periodic updates over the satellite broadcast once it's "primed" so the next time period gets updated that way or its ready with data if you drive into a new area.

The Uconnect 8.4 is "this close" (holding thumb and finger right next to each other) to being awesome but they just cant get all the pieces together.

Re: Weather app

its a useless feature - even if it worked properly. You cant zoom in close enough to make it worthwhile. The closest zoom shows the entire state.... I just use my phone. In fact... the phone works better for everything they want you to pay for lol. Gas prices, Traffic, weather... even music since the SXM sounds like garbage on this radio.

Sad but true.

The system has such promise but they just haven’t yet put it all together.

It has a cellular radio- why not use it? Want me to pay- sure i will - BUT MAKE IT COMPELLING and don't rip me off. $15/month is crazy when you get such little. Delphi Connect OBDII dongle is $10 (5 for data to Verizon and 5 for the service) and you get more than just unlock my doors in 10 minutes. The Delphi dongle can do keyfob but also can give you real time status. Is my car running NOW? where is it NOW? Is my kid speeding- oh yes the bugger is- it just texted me! Did my kid drive to that skanky girls house when i told him not too- Nope- the dongle will text me if he gets closer then I allow. It's Sunday night- do i have gas in the car or do i need to get up 10 minutes earlier to fill 'er up in the morning? Want to read that OBDII code- Ok.

Oh and the Delphi dongle comes with 4G on VERIZON- and the wifi hotspot feature isn't $100 dollars a day (it's not apples to oranges since it can hook to your verizon shared data). But how about this sprint- want to get some more customers- allow me to add the Uconnect to my family share plan for $5 like Delphi and Verizon and maybe I'll switch to Sprint instead of Verizon.

I do like that UConnect has all these different bits and pieces that are linked- you can find a gas station in the xm app, a store in yelp, a restaurant in the aha thing- whatever- and then click the link to go there now and BAMN it will nav there for you. That’s cool.

But the lack of REAL TIME- QUALITY data makes it less then it could be. Hopefully they realize that and work to better integrate the cellular connection but only time will tell.

That and a few more ‘killer apps’ – and it would really hit it’s potential.
