Re: What Are You Paying A Month For Your U-Connect 8.4?

I can't say for sure because I don't have that system in my MY2012 JGC, but "in general" Bluetooth devices usually can only have one active connection at a time. That's not universal, but true most of the time. You can register/pair multiple devices (both yours and your spouses for sure), but I suspect you'll need to select one that's active-du-jour...

Re: What Are You Paying A Month For Your U-Connect 8.4?

I wonder if it sensed 2 phones, if it would ask which one to utilize? It did ask for me to select which phone was the "Favorite". So perhaps if it sensed both, it would automatically default to the "Favorite"? I'm not sure. I'll play it safe, and only have one phone on in the car at the same time.

Now I want to download the app that will allow me to use the remote start and door locks. I'm not sure which one it is, or how to go about it?? This stuff intimidates me.

Yes it will default to the favorite. I've used this with no problem. You can even set one device as favorite for phone and other for favorite for streaming audio.

The App I linked earlier is the one you need for remote start. You need to be logged into your account in and have and active subscription or trial for it to work though.

That's what I thought. So I need to press the "apps" on the U-Connect 8.4, then it will prompt me through setting up an account? Then, hopefully I'll get the screen on my phone for the remote start and door locks?.... By the way, thanks for all your help!

Yeah I believe there's a Uconnect registration under apps. It's been so long since I've done it I don't recall.

Or go the unconnect site I know they have a guide there.

Re: What Are You Paying A Month For Your U-Connect 8.4?

Another thing I was wondering about, is that now that I have already have a U-Connect 8.4 account with my user name and password, and have the app downloaded on to my phone, I'm wondering if all I have to do is "Log On" when I press the "apps" icon on the 8.4 screen?....... I'll find out in the morning. My brain is cooked from all this stuff!

I typically don't pair both phones to both cars. But I have, just to try it out. Usually one phone will have priority or "Default" in case both exist.

Like others said UConnect does not care what your carrier is.

It can be a little tricky to get EVERYTHING setup. Many dealers don't even have a clue, or pretend to be clueless because it can be time consuming to setup, every brand phone is a little different etc.

The remote start feature does NOT use Bluetooth at all, it does it through the Web.

No credit card is needed for Trial.

You need to install UConnect App on Android/IOS Phone that is connected to the Web.

You have to put the Radio in Bluetooth Broadcast mode while the Phone Scans for it. You can do that by Adding a Phone or Add a Bluetooth Media device on the Radio. And simultaneously get the phone to Scan for Bluetooth Devices. Watch the Screen on the Radio and Phone and follow instructions.

You need to also register the Radio (for some features like remote start or tethering apps through your phone).

The UConnect App is really two Apps in one. It can use features over the Web, like Remote Start. But it can ALSO use Bluetooth (called "Via Mobile") to basically use your phone as Data Bridge to allow apps like Pandora to work on the Radio (also known as Tethering). That is even more tricky to setup. You have to Register each App.

So you can use Uconnect many ways.

You can do "normal" Bluetooth pairing, and basically make the Car a Bluetooth speaker for your phone (no fees long term).

You can use your Phones Data Plan to extend Apps on the Radio. Which will give nicer user experience and often better quality audio (1 year trial, fees after that).

You can use UConnect App to Remote Start your car, Panic, Unlock etc. Everyone complains though, that the response time is often EXTREMELY slow. Like it might take 5 minutes for your Jeep to get the Message to Start. (same 1 year trial, and fees later)

There is a slight chance your carrier somehow blocked Apps like UConnect from "Tethering". But I highly doubt it. But it shouldn't block the remote start feature. If it some how did, I'd dump that carrier in a heartbeat. Again, very doubtful your phone is incompatible. If it has modern Android, Data Plan and Bluetooth it SHOULD work regardless of carrier.

Find some geeky teenager if you are stuck.

Sometimes Factory Reset of Radio and/or Phone makes things magically work. Make sure you have latest firmware on both Radio and Phone as well.

If you KNOW you will never pay the fees, it may not be worth setting up. Most of us just do it to try it all out and most never subscribe. But it is surely worth getting it Bluetooth paired for some primary features like hands free phone calls (now law in many states).

Also there are separate subscriptions for XM Sat Radio which adds Traffic features.

Oh the Uconnect subscription also allows Voice Recognition Texts to work (requires Bluetooth pairing).
Probably the most useful feature of them all for me.

Ditto, although not sure if it's still worth $180/yr to tell me the alarm is activated. Peace of mind wld be my insurance.

You need to call Uconnect and establish your account. Just hit the button on the mirror for assistance or whatever it says. After you register your vehicle/name/cc info and establish a login and password you can then use the app.

Which carrier is regardless so long as your motoG is connected to the Internet. The Uconnect access app needs either a cellular or wifi internet connection to talk to the Jeep for the remote services.

When you start talking about using the apps in the Jeep, that's when you'll be utilizing cellular Internet AND bluetooth.

Thanks for all the info logo! Where I sit now is this. I have both Motorola Moto G phones successfully paired with Bluetooth, to the U-Connect 8.4. Everything works well. Both phones can send and receive calls through the vehicle.

Today I'm going to register the U-Connect 8.4 at the screen, (by pressing the apps icon at the bottom of the screen), and try to get that account going. Then I'm going to try to get the app for the remote start and automatic door locks into both phones. That is where it's going to get a little tricky. I'm not sure where to go, or how to get it. I can't seem to find anything on the U-Connect app for downloading the Bluetooth set up for remote start, or the remote door locks. We'll see how it all goes. At least I've got the phones up and running. That was my biggest concern.

Re: What Are You Paying A Month For Your U-Connect 8.4?

This morning I registered the U-Connect and I got the app for remote start, stop, lights & horn, and engine shut off. All of it works! It took about 2 minutes to receive and process the auto start, and about 30 seconds to process the auto shutoff request. Not too bad.

I don't have kids, but I was wondering if this app is safeguarded? By that I mean let's say your cruising down the freeway at 70 MPH, and your kid is playing with your phone, and he sends a command to shut down the engine. Will the car sense it's running and in motion and reject the shut down command? I'm assuming it would. And it always asks for your PIN # before it will let you do anything. But I was just wondering?

Re: What Are You Paying A Month For Your U-Connect 8.4?

The UConnect app is the last thing I'm worried about a kid (or anyone else, for that matter) playing with on my phone. Our phones have become an extension of our lives nowadays; you'd best password-protect your phone so no one can access it without you being there or without your explicit permission in your absence.
