I typically don't pair both phones to both cars. But I have, just to try it out. Usually one phone will have priority or "Default" in case both exist.
Like others said UConnect does not care what your carrier is.
It can be a little tricky to get EVERYTHING setup. Many dealers don't even have a clue, or pretend to be clueless because it can be time consuming to setup, every brand phone is a little different etc.
The remote start feature does NOT use Bluetooth at all, it does it through the Web.
No credit card is needed for Trial.
You need to install UConnect App on Android/IOS Phone that is connected to the Web.
You have to put the Radio in Bluetooth Broadcast mode while the Phone Scans for it. You can do that by Adding a Phone or Add a Bluetooth Media device on the Radio. And simultaneously get the phone to Scan for Bluetooth Devices. Watch the Screen on the Radio and Phone and follow instructions.
You need to also register the Radio (for some features like remote start or tethering apps through your phone).
The UConnect App is really two Apps in one. It can use features over the Web, like Remote Start. But it can ALSO use Bluetooth (called "Via Mobile") to basically use your phone as Data Bridge to allow apps like Pandora to work on the Radio (also known as Tethering). That is even more tricky to setup. You have to Register each App.
So you can use Uconnect many ways.
You can do "normal" Bluetooth pairing, and basically make the Car a Bluetooth speaker for your phone (no fees long term).
You can use your Phones Data Plan to extend Apps on the Radio. Which will give nicer user experience and often better quality audio (1 year trial, fees after that).
You can use UConnect App to Remote Start your car, Panic, Unlock etc. Everyone complains though, that the response time is often EXTREMELY slow. Like it might take 5 minutes for your Jeep to get the Message to Start. (same 1 year trial, and fees later)
There is a slight chance your carrier somehow blocked Apps like UConnect from "Tethering". But I highly doubt it. But it shouldn't block the remote start feature. If it some how did, I'd dump that carrier in a heartbeat. Again, very doubtful your phone is incompatible. If it has modern Android, Data Plan and Bluetooth it SHOULD work regardless of carrier.
Find some geeky teenager if you are stuck.
Sometimes Factory Reset of Radio and/or Phone makes things magically work. Make sure you have latest firmware on both Radio and Phone as well.
If you KNOW you will never pay the fees, it may not be worth setting up. Most of us just do it to try it all out and most never subscribe. But it is surely worth getting it Bluetooth paired for some primary features like hands free phone calls (now law in many states).
Also there are separate subscriptions for XM Sat Radio which adds Traffic features.
Oh the Uconnect subscription also allows Voice Recognition Texts to work (requires Bluetooth pairing).
Probably the most useful feature of them all for me.
