What is your Navteq GPS software revision?

I have a NAV730N RER with Navteq GPS software revision N1004 3.3.3 it does not seem to be up to date as it can not find thing that have been in place for 2 years or more. I will be damned if I'm going to pay $199 out the shoot for an update to my new GC nav especially when the salesman told me it gets updated for free automatically. I will be making some phone calls next week.

Your salesman was wrong. It doesn't update automatically. I don't know if there's a new map revision out yet; there wasn't a couple months ago.

Re: What is your Navteq GPS software revision?

My salesguy told me the same.

Not sure why Chrysler doesn't include the first year updates free like GM does for their Nav systems.

Re: What is your Navteq GPS software revision?

After calling NAVTEQ and getting a complete run around I have opened a case with Jeep as they don't even know how it gets updated. They are looking into this, I can't believe the lack of information and wrong information I got from Jeep sales people in the process of buying this car. I almost bought one with out NAV cuz you can buy a new hand held for under $100 and get a new one every year. When the salesman said free automatic updates I changed my mind and spend the extra bucks. Mine seems to be out of date already.

Even if you paid for the update it would be out of date already. It takes toooo long to get new roads in a NAV system (or google maps or mapquest or ...).

I live on a new road that did not start showing up on internet based maps for well over 2 years after it was complete. I a car NAV system will take longer to update.

Re: What is your Navteq GPS software revision?

I am actually using my Garmin Nuvi 785T, because I had already purchased a lifetime map update subscription for it a couple of years ago, and it has the traffic alerts and cool MSN information like the price of gas at nearby gas stations and which movies are playing at nearby theaters along with the movie play times. Unfortunately. MS is going to drop the MSN service at the beginning of next year, and they didn't send out the letter notifying customers until after i had paid for a lifetime subscription to that service too.

Oh yeah, the night we bought the Overland, we tried to use the built-in GPS in the 430N to guide us home, and it got stuck in a loop taking us around a three street triangular loop over and over. We had to not follow its directions to force it to recalculate to get it unstuck.

Re: What is your Navteq GPS software revision?

I have a NAVTEQ based GPS on my Charger and towards the end of the year they send me a "special" deal to upgrade to the next years version for the amazing low price of only $200. I feel so special. The updates are normally realeased around Q1 - So the newest one would be the 2011 version which would not be in your vehicle. The DVDs also contain firmware updates to the hardware, depending on model.

The other systems I'm familiar with are Garmin that you could update via USB or flash-based memory cards for portable units. You'll need need a USB based storage device for dash units to perform updates. Garmin used to be pricey and have recently changed their update options to lower pricing.

No GPS will be "up to date" due to constant constructuion and the delay involved from planning and building new roads, mapping the final data, distributing to agencies, and of course to manufacturers. Then it's their turn to delay the process even more. Remember also that they're trying to load these "maps" with POIs that contain addreeses and telephone numbers along with voice recognition to make it easy for you. Give them about 2-3 years for the data to catch up.

Wow, this made me want to pull out my paper maps which I still carry and know how to navigate. I also use Google Maps on my G2 to supplement the on-board version. For the record, I have not paid for any updates for the few GPSes I've owned; there are other ways to get free updates.

Re: What is your Navteq GPS software revision?

Map upgrades will cost you, that's why I only upgrade them every three years. However, the firmware upgrades to your 730N are free from the dealer. That's probably what your salesman was talking about. I had them update my firmware when I was in for regular service.

Re: What is your Navteq GPS software revision?

I talked with me dealer sales manager and he and everyone there thought you got free automatic updates via satilite and that's what there telling all customers. They have now found out this is wrong and changed there story - you need to buy a disk for $199. Sounds like the next update is in April from Navteq

Re: What is your Navteq GPS software revision?

Just called Jeep CS line to tell them that the 730 (RER) does not allow me to enter my home address in NYC, This address has been here for 30 + years. They said I see..... Please call Navteq, Navteq told me that I need to go to my Dealer for instruction on how to enter an address. I told her that it does not accept my street address. Anyone else having this problem in Queens, NY area or any other area that uses a dash (-) in the street address?

I've had issues with that in the New York City area both with my WK2 and my WK but not lack of street address but using the correct street name. For example, on my WK typing in Queens Boulevard is not in there and will not show up. But if you center the map there and physically hit enter then it comes up as Route 25 - which is Queens Boulevard. I've had problems with this on other streets (Main st in my town is also Route 33 and would not show up as both). Hope this helps a little bit.
