Question What speakers are you upgrading to

I am a proud new owner of a 2013 Overland and I am looking to upgrade the audio system but would like to know which speakers you'll are running. I know I will be getting a JL stealth box for bass, just trying to figure out what else to use for the rest of the speakers.

I am contemplating these options:

Alpine Type R components

Focal poly glass components (are the K2's REALLY that much better?)

JL Audio C5 components

Are anything else you guys recommend. I will also either be using a JL 900/5 or Alpine PDX9 amp.

I really appreciate the help guys!

Re: What speakers are you upgrading to

I am using:
-Focal IS 165 components
-Focal IC 165 coaxials for rear doors
-Alpine PDX V9
-Audiocontrol LC7i
-JL Audio Stealthbox

My install should be sometime in june. All I have left to buy is the most expensive piece, the stealth box.

You will need some kind of converter to place between the stock Alpine amp and your new aftermarket amp such as the LC7i to convert the signal.

The Focals are by far the best of that group, with the JLs in second. And yes, the K2s are that much better. The Alpine Rs aren't even in the same league as the others.

Re: What speakers are you upgrading to

I really wasn't sure because I read that for the focals to sound right the tweeter had to be less than 8" from the mid woofer. Will they still be good if they are in the stock locations?

Also, what should I use for the center dash speaker and rear pillar speakers?

Re: What speakers are you upgrading to

^I was originally skeptical that the k2's were worth the super price premium, until hearing them side by side with the 165's in an audio showroom at higher volumes. They are outrageously crisp. Either way the entire focal line is stellar, you cannot lose.

IMO if you are putting together the whole enchilada system upgrade for the wk2, then for a fixed budget there are more important priorities such as a proper sub enclosure and additional amp power.

That said if you already have those basics covered, like to crank it up, and make a good living robbing banks, then the k2's are very impressive.

Re: What speakers are you upgrading to

There are several different "k2" types of speakers. Which ones are best?

KR?

KR2?

KRXS?

KRX2?

Re: What speakers are you upgrading to

I read about some JBL MS-62C comps today. Has anyone here had a chance to hear them? If so, do you think they should be added to the short list? I am really trying to keep the budget reasonable. I listened to the access comps today and thought they were nice...
