Which 6x9's?

Contemplating upgrading the front components in my 2014 Overland, reading through the threads here and the Image Dynamics XS69, HAT Imagine I69 and Focal ISS 690 seem to keep popping up.

Which of these (or other suggestions welcome) would people recommend.

I can tell you what I think of my HAT's when they have broken in in a few weeks or so... The ID's seem to get good reviews but they are a little more $$. You could use a 6.5" but just watch front clearance with an adapter. Go with an inverted rubber surround to be safe in this case (personal experience). Eg. Audison Voce, HAT range, etc..

Greetings,

This is an important consideration when considering mid drivers. Especially, if you decide to add a aftermarket amp to them.

For MKMYDNR: With regards to 6x9 component sets between the HAT and Focal it comes down to the type of tweeter and the punch from the 6x9 itself. Focal uses a metal dome tweeter, were, HAT uses a mylar dome tweeter which gives you a softer high end. This now becomes a personal choice issue. IMO, HAT has a better punch after the speaker breaks in.

Personally, I am not a fan of 6x9's. Between Focal and HAT you can not go wrong. You might also look into Massive Audio, they have a 6x9 that is also very good.

Massive Audio CK 69X - Component Massive Audio

Best for now.

Re: Which 6x9's?

I'm probably not the best person to answer your question, I'm no expert on speakers hence why I came here for advice

That said though, the high sensitivity should achieve greater sound from the same power source, what I would be concerned about though is going for a 2way coaxial speaker. Presumably as the stock system has splits the 6x9's are driven with a mid/low range signal with the high range being sent to the tweeters. Theoretically this would make the tweeter driver on your coaxials redundant as no high frequency signal will be sent to them and you will miss out on the benefit of upgraded tweeters.

Re: Which 6x9's?

Next question for those in the know, if I was to go the way of an adaptor plate and 6.5" drivers what would you recommend?

I dont think I will ever upgrade the amplification (except maybe for the sub if I end up swapping that out) but looking for increased volume nice crisp sound with tight punchy bass (isn't everyone).

Living in Australia many of these less mainstream brands would require shipping out of the US which often makes them lose their cost benifit so happy to look at locally sourcable well known brands aswell.

If you go with a 6.5" driver your choice is obviously much larger. Like I said above look for something with a low (front) profile and inverted rubber surround. It then just comes down to how much you want to spend and what you like to sound of. If not changing the amp (like myself) I could not see the benefit of spending more than $500 on splits (I may be wrong). For that you could go with a HAT Unity for example. As you mentioned just look for something in the 90dB's for sensitivity then go from there. I tried 2ohm Polks and now 4ohm HAT's with the same sensitivity and basically couldn't tell the decibel difference, just WAY clearer than stock.
