Will the iPhone 5 work with my CHR550 Lockpick still?

So I have a CHR550 Lockpick in my jeep and I am wondering if the new lighting port with adaptor will still work in my jeep? I enjoying watching Netflix on it when I'm out traveling cross county for stuff and have long breaks of waiting.

I know iPod controls don't work but not sure about the video out function yet.

I hear the current adapter does not support video but there is another adapter in the works. Not going to be available till beyond the November time frame.

I am trying to figure out a way to keep the video support in the jeep. I don't know if there is an AirPlay function or something along those lines can be updated into the software of the chr550 or even the radio it self.

Re: Will the iPhone 5 work with my CHR550 Lockpick still?

Can you send video from one Apple device to another, like say from the iPhone to a iPod touch? Perhaps connecting a iPod to the chr550 and then send video from the new iPhone to the iPod and then to the radio.... My understanding is that even when the video cable adapter is provided, it will be HDMI or VGA. Dunno what third party folks are up to, but I suspect there will be a market there and a product to fill it eventually...

Re: Will the iPhone 5 work with my CHR550 Lockpick still?

Best solution is to not get the iPhone 5. If you're happy with the functionality of your current phone, and are going to lose that functionality by upgrading, what in the heck are you thinking wanting to upgrade?

I know it's new and such, but that doesn't always mean it's better.

Biggest reason for upgrade is the lte and screen size. I like my 4 but it's getting long in the tooth when it comes to running some of the stuff I ask it to do.

I'm sure there will be a direct airplay upgrade for the iOS 6 that won't need wifi for it to work and then my issue is figuring out how to get it to work. Or they will come out with a breakout cable like they have for thunderbolt ports that let me mirror the screen to RCA and plug it in that way.

If you noticed on the keynote they were mirroring the screen via cable so I'm guessing it's already there just not released yet.

Maybe the USB to lightning lead does video out, but the lightning to 30pin adaptor doesn't ? That means as long as the CHR550 accepts USB leads and doesn't use the lightning to 30pin adaptor it would work?

All of the communications I've read mention the no video out from the adaptor - NOT the USB lightning lead.

Kev.

Re: Will the iPhone 5 work with my CHR550 Lockpick still?

You can't transmit video over USB.

I haven't studied the Lightning port, but I can't believe it doesn't have the capability of routing video to a couple of the pins. Video playback is a big part of Apple's business plan.

(Thunderbolt is specially designed for video. It multiplexes PCI Express and DisplayPort.)

Re: Will the iPhone 5 work with my CHR550 Lockpick still?

The lightning port has video, its just that none of the cables or adapters currently released breaks the video signal out. Video cable/adapters are to be released later this year, one has HDMI and the other has VGA outputs. Without these adapters, iPhone 5 owners can only stream video and audio content through AirPlay.

Lightning is all digital and power. The adapter itself contains the digital to audio converter for analog audio.

Re: Will the iPhone 5 work with my CHR550 Lockpick still?

I was looking originally for a CHR550 lockpick, but since the newer iPhone
will have a "lightning" connector, I decided to wait. a fully digital interface will
bring alot of new ideas. I really want to stream Netflix and Slingbox in my car
with a new 4GLTE iPhone.

However, I was peeking online and found a few interesting options even now.

I would love some input from Electronics Gurus.

1) MIMICX2

Older VID using it as a standalone:

Found HERE: http://www.customgadz.com/store/

2)

Found HERE: http://www.kivic-one.com/eng/home.html

3) Kind of a weird workaround, but I saw the video using a MyGIG.

Airplay in car using a lockpick, iphone, and ipod touch.

4) Coming in October - the iPad Mini - 7" iPad (Perfect for dash integration)

There are cables available for lighting to hdmi or VGA but I wonder if Lockpick will come out with a new connector to replace the 30pin the chr550 came with.

Even though I could set up a wireless router in my car and airplay it the issue will be I'm not able to download data and stream from my cellular network at the same time.

Even so if we get a lighting to hdmi/VGA we will still need an adapter or converter to RCA and use it as an input from a camera lead.

I hope apple comes out with AirPlay direct so you don't need wifi to stream video while connected to an airplay device. Then the issue comes to figuring out how to airplay video to the chr550 or the radio itself.
