0W 40 synthetic 2012 5.7

Got a yellow addendum in my owner's packet stating this was the synthetic weight to use. Yet everywhere I look it says 5W 20 . Which to choose ?

Thanks

Kevin

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that insert is only for the SRT8...even though it doesn't say that on the paper.

It applies only to the SRT8. If you look at the addemdum in the lower right corner it has a reference number that has the SRT8 in it. I complained about this to Jeep but I see it fell on deaf ears.

My 2012 overland v8 5.7 had the yellow card but it said to use 0 w-20, not 40.

You have to use 5w20 with the 5.7 due to the MDS. It won't work right with any other weight. I confirmed this with a phone call to the factory.

Thats what I complained about to the factory. They are putting these addemdum cards in all versions of the JGC packets and they are very poor in distinguishing what it applies to. But since they are still doing it, I guess they really don't see a need to correct this confusing info.

The MDS system "turns off " 4 cylinders when in ECO mode. This engine also changes the valves position. The intake valves stay open a bit longer. To do this the valves are controlled with hydraulic pressure and uses the crankcase oil to do this. This is all part of the VVT feature. The heavier weights don't work as well, but they found that the 5W20 does the trick. Thats why only the 5.7 V8 with MDS requires this weight of oil. More in the link below.

Re: 0W 40 synthetic 2012 5.7

I just picked up my 2012 GC Overland V8 last week and I also received the yellow addendum card stating that I should be using 0W-40 oil whereas the owner’s manual stated 5W-20 oil. I did question the sales person on this and he stated that I should follow the addedum as it presetns more current information.
I live in the Vegas area and thought that it might be due to the climate in this part of the country. I need to look at the card more closely. Again, another instance where it pays to read the fine print.

Your sales person is wrong. You must use 5W20 with the Hemi. The addemdum is only for the SRT8 model.

Re: 0W 40 synthetic 2012 5.7

I wonder what Chryco would say if it caused damage using their 0w oil on the yellow card. Very silly they did not make is obvious that it was for SRT8's only.
